On Amsterdam’s most beautiful avenue

Step out of Apollofirst - Hampshire Classic and you’re immediately on Amsterdam’s most beautiful avenue: Apollolaan. In whatever direction you walk in this chique area of Amsterdam you’ll come across great restaurants, lunch rooms, cafes, shops and museums. But of course you can also go to a specific destination. We’re delighted to help you with this:

Art and culture
Take the tram towards the city centre and step out at the Nationaal Monument on the Dam. Various places of interest and museums are within walking distance from here. Madame Tussauds is close by, as is Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions. If you walk on further, towards Westerkerk, you’ll arrive at the world-renowned Anne Frank Huis.

Leidseplein is just 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel. A Valhalla for music and theatre. Choose from the varied programmes available at different theatre and music venues: DeLaMar Theater, Theater Bellevue, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, Paradiso and Melkweg. You can also visit the theatre around the corner, literally in this case: Apollofirst Theater also has a surprising programme of performances.

There are a number of great attractions for the children along the way to central station. They can make interesting discoveries about science and technology in Science Center NEMO. The Scheepvaartmuseum is close to NEMO, where children can see and experience how the Netherlands is formed by the sea. They can also walk around the East India Company ship, De Amsterdam, berthed next to the museum.

Parking and forest
The city’s largest park, Vondelpark, is not far from the hotel. Free concerts and performances are given in Vondelpark Openluchttheater throughout the summer. Amsterdamse Bos (forest) is just a few kilometres drive from the hotel and in the summer months you can enjoy large-scale theatre events in Bos Theater.

“Lovely hotel, shame one staff member was so nosey!!! ”

We stayed at this lovely hotel under terrible circumstances as my husband had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, Amsterdam is our favourite city as a much needed break my we were booked for 5 night's on booking the hotel they were made aware of my husbands recent diagnosis and we're very accommodating upgraded our room to a quiet room at the back which was lovely. We arrived Saturday around 4/5pm checked in then went for dinner we came bk around 10 to be greeted from a different staff member we decided to have a drink in the bar the staff member started talking asked my husband if he had been smoking something bareing in mind his condition and the travelling ect my husband replied no just tired 😴 tonight he then replied "no, you smoke something like cocaine " my husband looks Ill has lost weight ect around his face we just disregarded his comments and went to our room. The next morning I went down for breakfast alone as my husband was still asleep and again approached by the same man on the terrace for breakfast as he nicely laid the table and again he talking away "just one for breakfast" yes just one I replied your boyfriend tired still yes I replied and again straight to the same comments he smoking something again I said no. This man approached me another 2 mornings and finally on the last morning he again kept pushing till I said no he's not been smoking anything he has terminal cancer he just skutteled away the man's manners were awful he was very intrusive and assuming people were drug users we are a recently married couple who is going through the worst time of our life and to have a break in our favourite city in such a lovely setting but was wrecked by some fowl mouthed member of staff who was clearly needs to be taught manners, when my step father who had paid and booked this hotel emailed the establishment he had a email reply saying that the hotel was denied this! Why would we say this if it was not true lovely hotel rest of the staff were superb but the man in question ❓ didn't get his name think he is Spanish has a terrible attitude and really shouldn't judge anyone disgusted with this matter!!

“Better than we expected”

This hotel was a nice place to stay whilst in Amsterdam, was out of the noise of the centre but close enough for a quick tram ride. Cleanliness of the room was very good, has a nice outdoor garden area and the staff are all helpful and friendly. The wifi was very temperamental n sometimes didn't work at all, and the lift was a bit weird but quirky at the same time. There is no air con but u r provided with a fan, but it can very hot. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel Because we felt it was very expensive. Overall we really enjoyed our visit and would go back again.

“Really nice and amazingly clean hotel. Helpful staff.”

We stayed here for three nights from July 15th. A really nice surprise. As soon as we walked in, the room looked very classy. Very clean and as we would find out, the cleanliness was something we'd both not witnessed before to such good standards, Whoever the cleaning staff were, I take my hat off. Room was smallish but cosy. Comfortably arranged. On the plus side Location - Easy access into the centre. Three minute walk and there were the trams. Very frequent. We walked into town on our first day as it really isn't that far in any case. Highly recommended to be honest for this reason. Staff - Very friendly, very helpful, very accommodating. (Over the road there were building works just for the first morning. 7am and the noise started. We alerted one nice staff member called Karen who immediately offered to relocate us to the back if we wanted after she'd had a look herself. We stayed put as it was only for one morning so no problem.) Room - Lovely and clean. Beds were nice. Cleanliness - What can I say! Clean sheets every day although to be honest, we didn't need it. Clean towels. Bathroom floor you could probably eat off of! ---------------------- On the Minus side - TV - Not much choice if you are English. Three channels to choose from although if you were prepared to pay a little extra, there were more channels on offer. No tea and coffee facilities in the room. Shame really as most hotels I have ever been in, this is as standard. Perhaps being English you want your tea making facilities! ---------------- We would definitely stay here again without a doubt. Great hotel and the nicest I have stayed in of five visits to the city.

“Quirky and interesting”

This hotel turned out to be an unexpected pleasure. There are a few things I would change, but it definitely goes in my recommend file. It's located in a lovely, upscale neighborhood south of the city. Very convenient to Amsterdam Centre, but without all the stag parties and the persistent smell of weed (lol). Tram #5 is two blocks away and takes you directly to the heart of it all. The good: I was in room 22 and it faces the back, over looking a lovely courtyard. My room was actually a suite with a kitchen. There was a long balcony and chairs. Very pleasant. The design is...well...hard to describe. Thrift shop meets Dracula' cousin? Mismatched furniture, over the top black drapes, word but fun. The breakfast room is really lovely; however it was not included and for €16.50, you may want to walk over to Beethovenstraat for something more reasonable. What would I change? Buy a double bed. The childlike, narrow single beds are pushed together, but easily come apart. (Why Europeans like baby beds will always be a mystery to me...) Also, buy a shower curtain!! You take a shower and water is everywhere. Then, when you walk in the bathroom, you hit a spot you forget to dry and your socks are soaking wet. Irritating and unnecessary. I am returning to Amsterdam in early September and plan to book again.

“Pleasant stay.”

We stayed 3 nights in this older style hotel. It is clean, comfortable and quiet. It is in a nice, peaceful suburb with parks in the area. The museum precinct is 5 mins on the tram which comes every 5 mins. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Our top floor room had a leafy outlook over the top of the courtyard. The big opening windows made the room bright and breezy. The lift is tiny and our room was quite small with little space for luggage. There was heating but no air con for cooling, but a table fan was provided. However the bed was comfy and the bathroom was spotless and a reasonable size. There was no fridge or kettle which was a little disappointing. We didn't eat at the hotel as there are cafés, bakeries and restaurants close by. There is also a supermarket just around the corner near the tram stop. The no 5 tram passes close by going either direct to the centre of the city (about 15mins) or out to Amsterdam South train station (about 5 mins) which links to the airport.. It is very convenient. Bike hire was double the price from the hotel. Better to go into town to hire a bike. We enjoyed staying here and liked the quiet area after the hustle and bustle of Central Amsterdam.
