2013 will be THE year for Amsterdam. A year in which the anniversary of many notable buildings, museums and sites in the city will be celebrated.
Starting with the Amsterdam canals. It was exactly 400 years ago that the construction of the famous canals started, which were officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010. And there are also various other anniversaries to celebrate, including the reopening of the Rijksmuseum, 40 years for the Van Gogh Museum, 125 years for the Concertgebouw, 125 years for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, 225 years for Felix Meritis and the 175th anniversary of Artis Zoo.
It is very special that these anniversaries all fall together in one year. It is a fantastic opportunity for the city of Amsterdam to put on an impressive display with fun events and great parties. The starting signal for this celebratory year took place on 12 January 2013 and until the huge closing ceremony on 1 January 2014 there are all kinds of enjoyable activities planned. From a unique visit of the complete Stanislavsky Opera from Moscow to the 125-year-old Royal Theatre Carré to a fantastic Peter the Great Exhibition in the context of the Netherlands-Russia Year (400 years of trade relations) in the Hermitage Amsterdam. The good news is that you do not have to miss anything and can even be in the centre of all the festivities by booking a room at one of the Hampshire hotels in the heart of the city.
You can choose from six unique Hampshire hotels in great locations. The Amsterdam American Hotel - Hampshire Eden and Hampshire Hotel - Theatre District Amsterdam, directly on and immediately behind Leidseplein, are the ideal starting points for the celebrations on the anniversary of the Concertgebouw, Felix Meritis and the Van Gogh Museum.
