If you’re visiting Amsterdam, why not treat yourself to one of the best locations? Hampshire Hotel - Beethoven is situated in Beethovenstraat, in the middle of the chique and popular Oud-Zuid district. The area surrounding the hotel has a lot to offer in terms of exclusive shops, restaurants, cafés and clubs. You can also choose from the abundance of cultural excursions available. The various trams stopping in front of the hotel make travelling through the city a breeze.
The Museumplein is easily accessible by tram or on foot from Hampshire Hotel - Beethoven. This is the heart of cultural Amsterdam, with its unique collection of fantastic museums, such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum just a stone’s throw from each other. After an amazing museum visit why not chill out in the Vondelpark? It’s a great place to enjoy a picnic on the grass, find an terrace café or just take a relaxing walk.
Hampshire Hotel - Beethoven is a great base from which to explore the city. All the big tourist attractions such as the Leidseplein, the Dam and the Museumplein are close by, making it easy for you to visit all the huge, internationally known museums. But Amsterdam also has a wealth of smaller, lesser known museums. Here are a few suggestions:
With a collection of more than 4,000 bags, the Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on the Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world. Discover what the night-life would have been like in Amsterdam at the end of 19th century in the Willet-Holthuysen Museum on Herengracht. Amsterdam School architect, Michel de Klerk’s most famous building, Het Schip, houses Het Schip Museum in Amsterdam-West. Such things as a worker’s house from 1921 can be seen in the museum.
The Rijksmuseum organises special children’s workshops including “Drawing with Rembrandt”. Future scientists and technical geniuses can get away with doing all kinds of tests and experiments in the NEMO Science Center. The Amsterdamse Bos may not be just around the corner, but it is still easy to reach and is great fun for the children. The kids can climb in trees and swing from treetop to treetop in the Klimpark Fun Forest. The woods are also home to the goat farm Geitenboerderij Ridammerhoeve, which is great for the little ones.
The start of the new theatre season is heralded by the three-day festival the Uitmarkt . On the first weekend in August there’s another popular event, Amsterdam Pride, with its famous canal parade, Gay Pride. The Grachtenfestival (canal festival) also takes place in August, with the Prinsengracht Concert being the highlight.
An extensive breakfast awaits you in the hotel each morning from 7:00 a.m. Hampshire Hotel - Beethoven doesn’t have its own bar or restaurant but its central location in Amsterdam-Zuid more than makes up for this. There are countless great, high-quality restaurants and bars within easy walking distance, both in the Beethovenstraat itself as well as in the adjacent neighbourhood, De Pijp.
