The inner city of Groningen with all its entertainment and culture is within easy reach of Hampshire Hotel - Plaza Groningen. The centre is just a few kilometres’ drive from the hotel. Museums
If you take the train to the city, you can’t miss the imposing Groninger Museum building. Come and see it from the inside too! There are continuously interesting exhibitions, and the fixed collection is impressive. Cheerful museums are the Nederlands Stripmuseum Groningen with all its comic strip heroes and Muzeeaquarium in Delftzijl with aquariums full of fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
History Historical heritage can be found everywhere. Highlights in the city centre include the Martinitoren, the Hoofdstation, the Goudkantoor and the Prinsenhof. Some 16 of the province’s original 180 stately homes remain. The most well-known four, Fraeylemaborg, Menkemaborg, Landgoed Nienoord and Verhildersum, are open to the public.

Children
In the covered Apekooi (monkey cage) playground children can, you’ve guessed it already, climb and clamber like small monkeys. They are allowed on bare feet in ’t Blôde Fuottenpaad in Opende.

Events
Each August you can enjoy the Indian Summer during the Festival Noorderzon. For ten days there are numerous shows and (theatre) performances both in the fairy-tale Noorderplantsoen and in the city centre. On the last Saturday in August, the ZomerJazzFietsTour starts. A unique combination of a cycle trip through the Reltdiepdal and jazz concerts in Mediaeval churches and farm sheds.

Restaurant Culinas
One glance at the menu says it all: this is cooking at the highest level. A terrine of smoked salmon with La Ratte potatoes and saffron mayonnaise, beef carpaccio with truffle tapanade, Reypenaer VSOP fries and fennel crudités; the choice is yours. The Head Chef works with local quality produce as much as possible, such as the Zuidlaardermeer eel. He is continually developing new dishes, which means the menu also changes regularly. Restaurant Culinas is open seven days a week from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm.
