Historic hotel in the centre of Zutphen

A weekend in Zutphen? Then Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen in the centre of the town is the ultimate location. In the hotel alone, history will be all around you, with seventeenth century architecture and paintings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. From the hotel, you walk through the winding streets and alleyways of the old town of Zutphen past attractions such as the Sint Walburgiskerk, the Berkelpoort and the many courtyards.

From Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen, there are some lovely cycle tours. Highlights are De Graafschap in the northwest of the Achterhoek region, the woodlands with their estates and castles and the Achterhoek tour. There is also plenty to attract gourmets to Zutphen. In and around the hotel, there are two high quality restaurants such as Brasserie 6.

Starting point for some lovely cycle tours.

The Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen is housed in the seventeenth century “Huize van Kasteele” building in the city centre. This is the ideal starting point for walks through the historic city centre, past merchant houses and warehouses from the Hanze era and picturesque courtyards. But there's lots more to do in Zutphen:

Museums
The Stedelijk Museum Zutphen strikingly presents the history of the Hanze town Hanzestad Zutphen and surroundings with old maps, layouts, skyscapes, portraits and photos. Other museums include the Speelgoedmuseum Deventer with toys from all the eras and Het Kunstenlab with varying modern art exhibitions.

Film
See a film at cinema Cinemajestic or the movie theatre Luxor, each featuring a selection of interesting, nice films.

Garden
The Overtuin, in the middle of the village of Warnsveld, is a must for any garden lover. This English-style landscape garden from 1832 has a rich history. It is, for example, home to the oldest pagoda tree in the Netherlands.

Children
Skatepark Canyon is one of the biggest skate parks in Europe. Suitable for skaters and BMX riders. Younger children will enjoy Kinderboerderij De Schouw, with its animals and activities. For nearly all ages: Children’s play paradise Ballorig Or take a boat trip on the Fluisterboot Zutphen, which takes you past the loveliest spots in the river de Berkel and even sails over the Grote Gracht.

Books
The legendary annual Deventer Book Market takes place on the first Sunday of August. With six kilometres of books, this is the biggest book market in Europe.

Cycling
Zutphen is a perfect starting point for lovely cycle tours. Particularly worthwhile are the Cycle Route from Hanze town to Hanze town, the Achterhoek Tour and the Graafschaproute West.

Zutphen is the place for gourmets.

Brasserie 6
Seven days a week, this bustling brasserie is open for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. The modern menu is very accessible. The spacious, sunny terrace can rightfully call itself the loveliest terrace in Zutphen. The view over the old Walburgiskerk is splendid. Nippy? The heating ensures that you can sit out on the terrace for longer.

“Business stay with customers”

It is a moderate hotel. Rooms are ok nevertheless the heating is not working in all of the rooms. Restaurant is moderate as well with a limited selection. Our customers did not fancy the food which was a pitty.

“Renovation”

They are renovating the gotel for the moment and I had the opportunity to stay in a new room. The decoration and everything is now very nice, it was also badly needed !! It will still take some time to have the rest of the renovation done, but this hotel will be very much improved.

“Well located for the town centre.”

The hotel is well managed and the staff are friendly and pro-active. There are good restaurant facilities, but be aware of the Dutch tradition of eating very early in the evening. (If you have travelled for hours to get there, don't expect to have dinner in Zutphen much after 21-00!). The rooms are quiet and of reasonable size. Minus points are foam filled pillows and in our room a quite ineffective shower. The decor throughout the hotel is somber and rather 'tired'.

“Weekend outing with friends”

Average hotel located in a nice old building quite close to the very attractive city centre of Zutphen. Nice terrace as well. Our room on the third floor had a nasty smell of cookd cauliflower and was noisy because it was located next to the mechanic ventilation shaft of the kitchen. Food was ok but not special. Service avaerage.

“I'm not impressed by this hotel”

Very small room (single bed) Old fashioned feel to the hotel which some people might like Because of the very narrow bathroom, the toilet roll holder is high up behind the toilet and the towel rails are high up away from the basin No shower curtain so the bathroom floods No temperature control in the room and the window can be opened for a small crack No wifi in the hotel (basement) bar and barely 3G reception apparently boosters aren't doing the job Wifi in the room (front of hotel) very poor, it took about an hour to try to post 1 Facebook message with a few photos, then gave up and did it on 3G TV has bbc1 and 2 as well as other European stations City centre location, this is the only hotel in the city centre No tea/coffee making facilities anywhere No minibar Public parking out the front limited and I felt lucky to get a space Staff in reception helpful and formal not what I would call friendly With no competition in the city maybe they've become complacent Bartender was very friendly and told me about a lot of the city's history. Wardrobe has an industrial looking metal rolling front, not hotel material Bed has no bedside cabinet but there is a wooden shelf against the wall, it is not a headboard and you can put a drink on it but it's then behind your head. The room and other areas were very clean On a Sunday morning be prepared to listen to church bells
