Cosy hotel close to the big theatres

Hampshire Hotel – Theatre District is the ideal place for culture vultures. The hotel is located right in the centre, just behind Leidseplein and close to the city’s large theatres: DeLaMar Theater and Stadsschouwburg. Famous music venues Paradiso and Melkweg are also around the corner. Various internationally-renowned museums are just a few minutes walk away, such as Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum.

Museums
As well as the large, internationally-renowned museums, the area houses many interesting smaller museums. A good example is Museum Van Loon, located in a 17th Century building on Keizersgracht. This is home to the art collection from the Willem van Loon family, one of the founders of the East India Company. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje is in a monumental building on Herengracht, dating from 1664. As the largest bag museum in the world, it brings 500 years of bag history to life. The Bijbels Museum on Herengracht is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. The enormous collection comprises not only biblical but also Jewish and Egyptian religious objects. In 1805, Mrs Willet-Holthuysen left her 17th Century canal house to the city of Amsterdam, including furniture and art collection. The house is now a museum: Museum Willet-Holthuysen.

Foam Fotografiemuseum on Keizersgracht has large exhibitions featuring the work of famous photographers, but also smaller expositions by young talented professionals and amateurs.

Theatre
Various theatres are within walking distance of the hotel. DeLaMar Theater has international performances, theatre, cabaret, musicals and family theatre on the programme. Stadschouwburg on Leidseplein offers evening theatre performances including those by Toneelgroep Amsterdam.

Children
Jeugdtheater De Krakeling has beautiful performances for children of various ages throughout the year. Anne Frank Huis is suitable for children from 10 years. For climbing, gliding, football and running, children up to 13 can enjoy the indoor play park, TunFun.

Park
The park in Amsterdam is of course Vondelpark, where you can enjoy a picnic on the grass together with all the locals. There are great, free performances in Vondelpark Openluchttheater in the summer.

There’s no restaurant at Hampshire Hotel - Theatre District. Nevertheless, a delicious breakfast awaits you every morning, with boiled eggs, a glass of fruit juice and a large cappuccino. In the weekend you can have a nice lie-in, because the breakfast buffet stays open until as late as 11:00 a.m.
