Culture, countryside, relaxation and recreation

Hampshire Paping Hotel & Spa – Landgoed Het Laer is situated on the edge of the ancient Laerbos. The location is ideal: the central station is close by and the lively Ommen town centre is just a few minutes walk. Culture, countryside, relaxation and recreation: everything is close by. Ommen is in the Overijsselse Vechtdal, a beautiful area with walking and cycling routes along country estates, forests, heathland and picturesque villages. You can enjoy lunch and dinner in the hotel’s stylish Paping restaurant, which has both lunch and dinner menus.

Feel like shopping or sitting at an outdoor café? Then you should visit Ommen’s cosy town centre. After an active day, it’s high time for total relaxation in the spa at Hampshire Paping Hotel & Spa - Landgoed Het Laer. The extensive sauna and beauty centre includes an inside sauna, Turkish steam room, plunge pool, Finnish outdoor sauna, hot whirlpool, indoor swimming pool and a beautiful garden with patios and outdoor reclining chairs. Numerous relaxing treatments are also available.

A beautiful view across Ommen

For those looking for relaxation, nature and history, Ommen in Overijssel has everything. It starts with the beautiful view across Ommen and surroundings from the top of Lemelerberg or Besthmenerberg, both of which you can walk up. For more action you can take a trip across the Vecht by canoe or step on a step bike with GPS.

Walking
Combined, the municipalities of Hardenberg, Ommen and Dalfsen have a total of 1,300 kilometres of walking routes. There’s a huge network of walks along the most beautiful places in Vechtdal, such as the idyllic Reestdal, the picturesque hamlet of Rheeze and Lemelerberg. Tip: purchase a walking map at the tourist office.

Museums
In the Streekmuseum Ommen the history of Ommen comes to life through paintings, historic objects, regional dress and antique interiors. The National Tin Figures Museum (Nationaal Tinnen Figuren Museum) has a collection of more than 200,000 tin figures of all types and sizes. For garden lovers who’d enjoy an aquatic botanic garden, there’s the Ada Hofman Botanische Vijvertuinen in Gramsbergen.

Children
If you want to please the children, the following are highly recommended: Adventure park Hellendoorn and Amusement park Slagharen.

Golf
Just three kilometres from the hotel there’s the fantastic Golf & Country Club Hooge Graven golf course. You can do a round on the A-class 18-hole golf course at this club, which is hidden in the forest.

Surprising international flavours

Restaurant Paping’s Head Chef, Johan Drenth, combines regional products with surprising flavours from all corners of the globe. The result is a frequently changing menu with interesting dishes, such as veal pastrami with cucumber piccalilli, or haddock with a crispy maple syrup crust and malted barley with bay laurel gravy. Or what about a mousse of white chocolate and rosemary with raspberries and gingersnaps? There’s a lunch menu as well as the main menu. Johan Drenth often cooks on the basis of a theme. In September it’s “Mussels”, in October “Mushrooms” and in the summer months he serves patio specialities.
