Space, relaxation and culinary delight: that is what Hampshire Hotel â De Arendshoeve has to offer. The hotel is located in Bergambacht, a lively village in the centre of the Krimpenerwaard polder, a unique area in the Green Heart of the Netherlands, with traditional Dutch polder landscapes, winding rivers and characteristic villages. Just twenty minutes' drive from Rotterdam and Utrecht, this location is even closer to the cities of Gouda and Schoonhoven.
The beautiful Krimpenerwaard region can be explored in various ways: you can walk or cycle one of the area's many routes, or you can rent a canoe. An excellent paddling route is the Loete route (22 km), from the Loet Woods (Loetbos) to Krimpen aan den IJssel. After a full day of activities, you may be ready for a bit of relaxation at the highly recommended spa and wellness centre at Hampshire Hotel â De Arendshoeve, or a spot of dinner at the à la carte restaurant.
Hampshire Hotel - De Arendshoeve is close by both the historic cities of Gouda and Schoonhoven. Both cities offer a range of interesting options for a cultural day out. In the Krimpenerwaard itself there are also plenty of fun things to do, for people of all ages.
If you've never seen the 19 windmills at the Kinderdijk for yourself, now is your chance. The fortress city of Schoonhoven was formerly known as the Silver City for its many silversmiths. In the Dutch Silver Museum, you can learn all about this rich history. In the historical centre of Gouda near the market, you can explore several different medieval structures, such as the town hall, the Waag (weigh house) and the Sint-Janskerk (St. John's Church), famed for its stained-glass windows. Gouda's world-famous cheese market is held throughout the summer and December holds the beautiful event Gouda by Candlelight.
The Krimpenerwaard offers space, relaxation and a lot of water. There is a wealth of natural beauty to discover, in Loetbos and Krimpenerhout natural areas. The Krimpenerwaard has an extensive network of cycling routes. You can rent a bicycle at the hotel. Staff can provide information about various routes. If there's a strong wind blowing, we recommend choosing an electric bicycle (e-bike) from our selection.
Children from 4 to 12 years old can leap ditches, build bridges and race down the zip line in the Speelpolder in Bergambacht adventure play area. The regional Streekmuseum Krimpenerwaard is also a great outing for children. On a visit to this museum, kids can go on a quest around the grounds and play with old-fashioned outdoor toys.
The exclusive 18-hole golf course The Dutch in Spijk is relatively new, but has already made a name for itself in the golf world. Somewhat more accessible is the 18-hole golf course at Golf & Country Club Capelle aan de IJssel. A fun bit of trivia: the course record was held for years by Joost Luiten. Those looking for a challenging course should try Golfclub Broekpolder in Vlaardingen. Consider yourself warned of the many water hazards.
Restaurant De Arendshoeve
You'll find proof on your plate that Hampshire Hotel - De Arendshoeve is out in the country. Many of the products our chef uses are of local origin. The exact menu depends on the season and what is available, but one thing is certain: all of the dishes have a classic French touch. Curious? The restaurant is open in the morning for continental breakfast and in the evening for dinner.
Brasserie De Arendshoeve
The kitchen at the Brasserie is French-oriented: classically French but with a twist. That twist is created by the regional products used by the chef. The menu is full of classics, changing seasonally. From a richly filled bouillabaisse to a âboeuf bourguignonâ cocotte. The Brasserie is open all day, for a cup of coffee or a full lunch extending into the early evening.
