Best City Boutique Hotel

If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. The Dam is also not far from the hotel. There are a number of interesting places of interest here: Nationaal Monument, De Nieuwe Kerk with its much-discussed exhibitions, and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam.

On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Museums
Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

Shopping
De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Children
Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“5 star staff & service, great location, trendy vibe”

The brief (for those that hate to read through fluff) = Great location for walking to major sites (couple blocks from Ann Frank, 15 min walk to Rijks Museum), great trendy interior with a small restaurant & bar -- amazing Gin-n-Tonics, rooms vary in size with bold decor and beds are very comfortable (get a tub if you can), staff is friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay wonderful! The details = I am a girl that loves a great hotel experience and The Toren offered me an exceptional experience. This little boutique hotel is located in the city center, right off a canal at the corner of a bridge (which makes it very easy to locate). The main floor is little more than a reception desk, a hallway to get to the stairs/lift and a trendy sitting area that transforms into a restaurant and bar for meals and drinks. It is boldly decorated with black velvet wallpaper and deep red-purple tones (think trendy chic not tacky). The rooms have many offerings, but go for the large whirlpool tub if you can -- so worth it after walking around all day -- and take up a gin-n-tonic from the bar to sip while you soak (oh my goodness they are amazing -- lots of garnishes and flavors). However, what makes this hotel wonderful is BY FAR the customer service. WOW WOW WOW! They made amazing dinner arrangements for us each night. They suggested great things to do while we where there and their wonderful, upbeat service just made every day special. I can not recommend express how great this hotel is. Do not miss the opportunity to stay here during your next trip to Amsterdam.

“Excellent family run boutique hotel”

This hotel is an absolute gem in a lovely district of Amsterdam. I was met by friendly and engaging staff proactively wish to make my stay as comfortable and rewarding as possible . It's in a great area with good walks to nearby good restaurants and Anne Frank House . Beautiful and tasteful decor , good bedrooms with good facilities . Don't be worried if you are placed in a neighbouring house as its a few steps away and equally impressive all connected to The Toren.

“A wonderful place to stay”

We had booked a small double. The hotel was in contact with us and asked if we would like a larger room. After several weeks we decided that we were interested in a larger room, but heard nothing. On our arrival they were very apologetic about missing our request. We stayed in the small double in the annex for two nights and were given a free lovely upgrade for our last night. The small double was completely ok, the same fun atmosphere as the Main building, clean, nice sheets and a beautful view of the garden. We, who had asked for a quiet room, didn't mind the church bells. This hotel is in a wonderful area, easy to walk to most places, plenty of great restaurants and a very friendly and nice staff that helped us when my husband got sick. We look forward to returning on our next visit to Amsterdam.

“Honeymoon in Heaven”

Truly this was a fantastic experience. The staff was simply amazing! From helping us wth directions and metro passes, to giant gin and tonic's sent via room service in the rain, every accommodation was handled immediately, and with a smile. We stayed in the annex Royale Suite with ceilings and windows that went on for miles and a nice little rooftop with a view of surrounding courtyards and gardens. Everything was very clean and the king bed was fantastic, super comfortable; we had free wi-fi, cable and an air conditioner/fan - which was a nice surprise. Even the continental breakfast gets a five star rating; we ate there almost every morning. The cherry on top was the staff sending us champagne as we were there celebrating our honeymoon. Did I mention the gin and tonic? Because they were beyond amazing! I could go on - but just go, this place is a gem!
