A bridge between trendy and historic Maastricht

The Sint Servaasbrug is not even a 5 minutes’ walk from the Designhotel Maastricht - Hampshire Eden. If you cross over the Maas here, you’ll find yourself in the old part of the city, where you can enjoy the famous Vrijthof, the Markt, Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek and many beautiful shops, cafés and restaurants. In the squares you’ll find many café terraces; perfect in summer. Vrijthof is a must see at Christmas: every year there’s a Christmas market and there’s an incredible Christmas atmosphere throughout the city. But there's lots more to do in Maastricht and its surroundings:

Walking
Sint Pietersberg is one of the most well-known hills in the Netherlands. There are long and short walks here along limestone grasslands, hillside forests and historic buildings. If you prefer to stay in the city, a guided city walk is highly-recommended. Or take the “vestingwandeling” along the old city walls, the “Helpoort” and the main guardhouse on Vrijthof.

Museums
The Bonnefantenmuseum has a rich collection of old, modern and contemporary art. The building itself, by architect Aldo Rossi, is a real eye-catcher. Tip: go to the Ipanema museum café and order a piece of vlaai (flan). It comes from the best baker in Maastricht! The Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht takes you on a journey through time, from the carboniferous period and the Krijtzee to today.

Historic
A visit to Maastricht isn’t complete without having seen Onze Lieve Vrouweplein with the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek. You really shouldn’t miss Maastricht’s historic inner harbour, ‘t Bassin. It’s full of history here, and there are extensive arts to be enjoyed, or you could just find a terrace café.

Children
The FunVille Speellounge is in an old 10-metre-high church, where children from 0 to 12 can really have fun. Children who aren’t afraid in the dark can make an exciting journey through the Sint Pietersberg caves. The Kabelbaan, Rodelbaan and Wilhelminatoren Valkenburg offer high-level action. Go by cable car to the watchtower, 86 metres higher, and zoom 375 metres back down.
