A bridge between trendy and historic Maastricht

The Sint Servaasbrug is not even a 5 minutes’ walk from the Hampshire - Designhotel Maastricht. If you cross over the Maas here, you’ll find yourself in the old part of the city, where you can enjoy the famous Vrijthof, the Markt, Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek and many beautiful shops, cafés and restaurants. In the squares you’ll find many café terraces; perfect in summer. Vrijthof is a must see at Christmas: every year there’s a Christmas market and there’s an incredible Christmas atmosphere throughout the city. But there's lots more to do in Maastricht and its surroundings:

Walking
Sint Pietersberg is one of the most well-known hills in the Netherlands. There are long and short walks here along limestone grasslands, hillside forests and historic buildings. If you prefer to stay in the city, a guided city walk is highly-recommended. Or take the “vestingwandeling” along the old city walls, the “Helpoort” and the main guardhouse on Vrijthof.

Museums
The Bonnefantenmuseum has a rich collection of old, modern and contemporary art. The building itself, by architect Aldo Rossi, is a real eye-catcher. Tip: go to the Ipanema museum café and order a piece of vlaai (flan). It comes from the best baker in Maastricht! The Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht takes you on a journey through time, from the carboniferous period and the Krijtzee to today.

Historic
A visit to Maastricht isn’t complete without having seen Onze Lieve Vrouweplein with the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek. You really shouldn’t miss Maastricht’s historic inner harbour, ‘t Bassin. It’s full of history here, and there are extensive arts to be enjoyed, or you could just find a terrace café.

Children
The FunVille Speellounge is in an old 10-metre-high church, where children from 0 to 12 can really have fun. Children who aren’t afraid in the dark can make an exciting journey through the Sint Pietersberg caves. The Kabelbaan, Rodelbaan and Wilhelminatoren Valkenburg offer high-level action. Go by cable car to the watchtower, 86 metres higher, and zoom 375 metres back down.

Brasserie FLO Maastricht
A piece of culinary Paris in “Mestreech”. The atmosphere and quality of Brasserie FLO Maastricht are of such a high level that they are a newcomer in the 2013 Gaultmillau guide. The kitchen is characteristically French and open daily for lunch and dinner. Classic dishes on the menu: crêpe suzette, steak tartare and fruits de mer. “Nice hotel”

Very nice hotel, quiete and close to the railway stadtion and sitated in the "Wijck" district where you find excellent food from all areas around the world. Just go through the river and you find a very clean city with nice coffees, shopping possibilities. If we will go back we will stay in the hotel again. 20 € was quiete high for breakfast that we never use, because there are several opportunities to eat in the city center or in the "Wijck" district.

“Did The Job! Worth Considering”

A modern and different hotel with a large room with very tasteful ultra modern deco. Clean, a bit of a novelty having the bath/ shower surrounded by glass in the bedroom, but gallons of piping hot water, an extra long deep bath, dark grey walls and ceiling, but quiet, great location for town, parking 2 minutes away fir 14 euros for 24 hours and helpful, friendly staff. I like maastricht and would use the hotel again. A really good 4 star hotel!

“Excellent position,modern , unusual room.”

We stayed here at the weekend, for 3 nights. It is very near to the station and within walking distance to the centre . Having read about the noise I asked for a back room and was pleased with the lack of noise from outside . The room , on the third floor, looked onto some nice private gardens. First impressions were wow , the bathtub is in the actual bedroom , along with twin sinks. Nice idea of having music in the toilet and the separate shower was nice too. There was no wardrobe so if you are staying for quite a long time this could cause some drawbacks , there is a rail with a few coat hangers. The Air Conditionimg worked well , we preferred to keep one of the windows open at night. . I had to ask for extra coffee sachets and sugar every day as they were a bit mean in that respect and one day they forgot to replace shower foam etc. The last evening we had neighbours in the adjourning room and you could hear them considerably . The staff were very professional and cordial , all of them speaking perfect English . My husband went to their little gym on the fourth floor which was basic but there were clean towels and drinking water available. All in all as Maastricht is quite an expensive town the hotel is quite good pricewise. There is colourful fitted carpet in the corridors which is need of a good cleanup . A few nasty stains .

“valued room”

I stayed in this hotel in Sep for 4 nights. The location is very closed to train station, only 3 minutes walking distanc, and 10 minutes to Old Town. The hotel staffs could provid the service or information if you asked. We lived in superior double room in first floor, viewed the cross of side and main street, quiet overall, but I don't know why that's a small group of people stayed in the cross and keep talking loudly at night (till ? 2 or 3 am). The room is spacious, standardize tidy and superficially clean, as we found some little worm on carpet at times...The hot water of shower was good enough but with the show flow. The price for the room is good, but expensive for everything, e.g. 19.9 euro for breakfast and charged us 3.25 euro for local call (~1 minute only). This hotel is good for short stay because of the price and location, but don't expect too much except the good looking.

“Great loacation but the hotel itself disappointing”

We chose the Designhotel for its convenient location close to the Old Town quarter of Maastricht and also because of our prior experience with other Hampshire hotels. Regrettably, Designhotel Maastricht really disappointed us. There was lack of parking places for hotel guests. The cleanness of the room and especially in the bathroom was questionable. Strange noises in the elevator made us worried. Our friends experienced problems with the toilet and had to change their room. It was the most expensive hotel on our tour over Europe, but also the most disappointing one!
Owner Response of Hampshire - Designhotel Maastricht
Dear Aandi1955, I am very sorry to read that your stay with us has not been to your wishes. Our standard is to make our guests feel “More than Welcome” in a comfortable environment. I have shared your comments concerning cleaning with our housekeeping department to be able to improve in the future. The hotel works together with the Q-park parking next to the train station, all our guests can park their cars in this parking. We hope you and your friends appreciated our service of changing rooms when experiencing problems with the toilet. We have not received more complaints concerning the elevators, if so we would surely hire a company to check the elevators. If you decide to come back to Maastricht, please feel free to contact me directly so I can provide you with a personalized offer.
