Get out on the water with a canal cruise

Eden Hotel Amsterdam - Hampshire Eden is situated in the centre of the city of Amsterdam, on the famous Amstel river. What could be nicer than taking a trip on the Amstel? You can take a canal cruise, hire your own boat to cruise through the city or be really sporty and hire a canal bike - fantastic fun! Other activities include:

Rembrandthuis Museum on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Dutch Master Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. A little further way you can find the Anne Frank House. You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs for those back home at the floating flower market on Singel. You’ll find vintage clothing and curiosities on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

The covered TunFun play park is in a former car tunnel. Children from 0 to 12 can tire themselves out here, climbing, running, sliding and jumping. Older children can meet their heros at Madame Tussauds on the Dam. For young scientists, there’s the NEMO Science Center, with five floors full of scientific and technological things to do and discover.

“Decent for Centre of City”

The hotel is an average all round hotel - free wifi, quiet guests, clean enough rooms. It could all do with a decent lick of paint as rooms are looking very tired. Breakfast was a standard fare of continental (tea, coffees, several juices, few cereals, fruit, cheese and hams, plenty bread and pastries, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, sausages and bacon). Staff are polite and friendly, exception being concierge mid-week afternoon was a little on the too-cheeky side having a bad attitude of greeting us (although he did apologise afterwards to his credit). Rooms were serviced daily with the beds being made up, and sheets being changed every few days. Didn't seem to have a daily vacuum-clean of the carpets though. Bathroom was wiped, although drains not cleared regularly of hair. Room 218 was serviced mid-afternoon around 3pm. A "double" was two made-up singles pushed together, but each bed had a memory-foam topper so it was pretty comfy for a good night's sleep! Executive rooms boost a canal side view - which is pretty enough - but this canal side hotel does sit directly on a main road of the city so it is rather noisy and the sound-proofing isn't great. Upsides to the executive rooms are that there are tea and coffee making facilities, with a broad selection of drinks which are replenished daily (and the maid did pick up there were two of us there so left us extra hot chocolate!) but the cups weren't washed / replaced often so were a little scummy from yesterday's tea for example. Well placed for getting around (tram station behind the hotel, metro three minutes walk) and the main attractions under 15 minutes walk from the hotel doors.

“Basic but met our needs.”

The Eden was in the perfect spot for our 3 day stay, everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance. The Ice bar was just a few doors down from the Hotel which was worth a look in but nothing special. The hotel itself was pretty basic, room was clean enough but far from spotless, room service was good. I did think that having to pay for a kettle and teas and coffee for the room though not that expensive was a bit much. We asked for extra pillows which was delivered in minutes. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. One query we left with the Manager was that on returning to our room on the second day, there was a pack of cigarettes left on our dressing table was told it would be looked in to but didnt get a reply to this mystery. Would stay here again as it was handy for everything.

“Great stay - minor improvements needed in rooms”

We are a young couple 23 & 25 stayed here for 2 nights 30th August - 1st September. Hotel is in a great location and from the airport you can get a train to central station for €5pp then tram to Rembrandt square about €3pp which is literally 3 mins from the hotel and a great place to go on the evening for good and drink. Hotel was very welcoming with concierge staff and a very friendly gentleman manning the luggage room - check In was fast and although official check in time is 3pm they keep your cases locked for you. If you take a left out of the hotel past a few cafés and restaurants there's a market and shopping area which is great for a nose and buying a few bits. We visited the tickets and and tours shop across from the market and got the ice bar for €16.50pp which Included 3 alcoholic drinks each, and hour canal tour for €10pp which was fab, secrets of the red light district for €7pp which is worth the trip very interesting and also used the hop on hop off for a bit of history and also to get to the trips €18pp definitely worth it there's also a free diamond museum tour with the bus which include Free tea and coffee. Hotel room 346 not a very good view but not as bad as others Have said room In need of a paint as well as carpet clean and defiantly needs a mirror above the dressing table rather than having to sit looking into the wardrobe. Breakfast was nice and they made us a breakfast bag as we left hotel At 6am which had sandwiches, Water, orange, apple, breakfast bar and choc. Would return

“A 6 day-stay in Amsterdam”

The hotel is confortable, not noisy and well situated. The rooms are small, but well designed. The service is very good and friendly, and the reception desk is nice. But the reception manager is not competent and may make you lose some time and energy because of it.

“21 young couple review”

Stayed 30th July-2nd August 2014 with my girlfriend in room 302. We are 21 and 22 years of age. The room itself was nice, very comfy bed, TV and plenty of cupboard space. The bathroom was also nice, hair and shampoo with a hair dryer provided. AirCon is also provided free which was excellent. However, the views from the windows were not pleasant, looking down onto a basement type area where rubbish was discarded wasn't the nicest of sights, and the other window lead to steel stairs which didn't really fill you with much security, but nothing was stolen or any wrongdoings took place. Nothing can really be done about this but I thought I'd include it in this review anyway. Upon arrival we walked into the lobby which is very nice, well kept and there is always a concierge around to greet you, however the 2 men who worked there aren't the friendliest, (this is not a family hotel) not that the 2 men were nasty or horrible, they just didn't go out of their way for you to be nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Eden, and if we ever came back to Amsterdam there would be a fair chance we would stay here again. The location is perfect also. Amsterdam - 1. We went to the Ice Bar just up the road from the hotel for 16EUR it was ok, nothing special, if you've got spare money then do it. 2. Cassa Rosso sex show 38.75EUR please save your money. It's literally on for an hour an a half and it's just not worth it. The staff are ridiculously rude and once the show is complete they usher you out even when they advertise you can stay all night. 3. Renting a bike, this is totally worth it, the hotel actually offer 15EUR for 24 hours but just down the road there's a place called the "budget bike" shop and they charge 12EUR with theft insurance. It's luminous green you can't miss it. Renting a bike gives you chance to visit places which are too far on foot, and it gives you a great understanding of where you are in the city. 4. The lovelock bridge is a nice addition if you're a couple, attaching a lock is a nice thing to do. 5. The red light district is exactly what it says on the tin, not for the faint hearted, just have your wits about you when in crowds and keep together. 6. Finally Amsterdam is expensive. Be prepared to pay over the odds for everything. It's just how it is. Beer is 5EUR for a pint, Rose is 3EUR for a small glass. This is an honest review of Amsterdam from a young couples point of view. :)
