Get out on the water with a canal cruise

Eden Hotel Amsterdam - Hampshire Eden is situated in the centre of the city of Amsterdam, on the famous Amstel river. What could be nicer than taking a trip on the Amstel? You can take a canal cruise, hire your own boat to cruise through the city or be really sporty and hire a canal bike - fantastic fun! Other activities include:

Museums
Rembrandthuis Museum on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Dutch Master Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. A little further way you can find the Anne Frank House. Here you can experience how life must have been for the Frank family in hiding. Photography fans should certainly visit the changing exhibitions at Foam photography museum on Keizersgracht. There’s a World Press Photo exhibition in the Oude Kerk every year. Hermitage Amsterdam presents  various exhibitions from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia.

Children
The covered TunFun play park is in a former car tunnel. Children from 0 to 12 can tire themselves out here, climbing, running, sliding and jumping. Older children can meet their heros at Madame Tussauds on the Dam. For young scientists, there’s the NEMO Science Center, with five floors full of scientific and technological things to do and discover.

“Anniversary Trip from So Shields on The DFDS”

Really good weekend. The DFDS ferry from our North East base in So Shields, Tyne and Wear, UK, usually leaves around 5.00pm Sat. and yr break begins ad you step aboard. It's like a floating nightclub/hotel. There are bars, piano bar, entertainment and a nightclub. You can pre book evening meal, very nice buffet (good choices)or a la carte restaurant, very good. Go to sleep and in the morning you have time for breakfast before you depart ship to yr chosen destination. Some roam all day and return later. We stayed at The Eden Hotel which overlooks beautiful canal. Apparently, we had Lisa Minelli's favourite room. Wow!!! 💝 Wonderful bars, restaurants and shops, cafes, Van Gough Museum, architecture is fab. Cycles all around. Take a tram, see the place. Great break.

“Location good...”

This chain hotel is overpriced in my opinion, great flashy lobby, however the room was a bit of a disappointment. The room was large but weird with an extra bed tucked into an alcove, also it was shabby, the bathroom lacked a real door so if you really value your privacy maybe look somewhere else. The location is very convenient to both the tram and metro.

“Fantastic Location - very tired public areas.”

We have just returned from a two night break with friends in this hotel. We selected it because its one of the few hotels in Amsterdam in our price range with a lift. My friend needed a lift as she has walking difficulties. The location is very good, right on the edge of Rembrandt Square with entrances in Rembrandt Square and in Amstel. We arrived early and dropped our bags off with the concierge. We checked in with the reception and were told to come back at three for the keys. Much as we expected. The first thing we noticed was that the carpet in the reception area was pretty grubby. It just made the place feel a bit down market. When we returned at three we queued up for fifteen minutes at reception only to be told that the rooms still were not ready. I wasn't that worried about that, but what ticked me off was that we were told it would be around 3/4 of an hour so on our return we had to AGAIN queue to get our room keys!! Such a waste of our time, there was no offer for us to sit in the reception area and for them to bring us the keys, we had to keep queuing and hoping we could get in. I accept that some times there are delays, but its how customers are treated in those circumstances that makes all the difference. We had rooms on the first floor, near to the lift which was what we asked for. We did get some noise from the lift but it was not a problem. The outside of the bedroom door was all scratched and looked as if someone had 'keyed' it!! Our room was compact with windows that looked at a brick wall, again not a problem we didn't spend too much time in there. The good points - The bed was one of the most comfortable that we have ever slept in, with comfortable pillows and clean bedding. The shower was hot and powerful with loads of hot water We loved the big tulip picture above the bed. The fittings were in a good state of repair and all in all the room was very comfortable. Bad points - Cleaning was not the best with discarded clothes labels under the bed (poking out) from the previous occupants, not the end of the world. We decided not to buy the breakfast and we found plenty of places to eat in the neighbourhood. All in all we had a very good trip and the hotel more than met our needs. If the public areas were nicer I would have given it full marks!!
