Many places of interest in the area

The location alone makes Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's the place to be; especially when you’re on a city trip and want to get to know Amsterdam really well. The hotel is within the canal district, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. The Dam and the delightful Jordaan are within walking distance. Other activities include:

Art and culture
Westerkerk and Westertoren are not far from the hotel. Anne Frank Huis is close to Westerkerk. Every year, many visitors visit this historic house to see with their own eyes where Anne Frank stayed in hiding during the Second World War and wrote her world-famous diary. There are a number of fascinating places of interest on the Dam, just a few minutes walk from the hotel: Nieuwe Kerk, Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and Nationaal Monument. At number 51 on the Amstel, there’s the annex of the famous Hermitage in Sint Petersburg: Hermitage Amsterdam. And Amsterdam Museum in the former Burgerweeshuis is very special. The museum is located between all the shops on Kalverstraat and has beautiful inner courtyards, a gallery full of schuttersstukken (paintings) and a well-stocked museum shop.

Children
A trip along the canals of Amsterdam is great to do all year round. There are lots of boat companies in the area, so you can easily step on a tour boat. But you can of course also hire a small boat or pedal boat and explore the canals yourself. TunFun is an indoor playground for children from 0 to 12 in a former car tunnel in the heart of the city. The history of shipping comes to life in children’s exhibitions in Het Scheepvaartmuseum, such as the fairy-tale underwater world of Matje & Roosje and Circus Zee for children up to 6 years.

Shopping
When it comes to shopping, there are possibilities enough. You can go to Magna Plaza shopping centre close to the Dam, to Haarlemmerstraat or Haarlemmerdijk or De 9 Straatjes, where you can find unique and original shops, lunch rooms and restaurants. Large, well-known shopping streets such as Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and P.C. Hooftstraat are also not far from the hotel.

Markets
If you’re in Amsterdam over the weekend, the organic farmers’ market on the Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is highly recommended. You can visit the farmers’ market on Haarlemmerplein every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Every Monday, there’s the famous textile market and vintage and antique market on Westerstraat and Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“Great Location, nice breakfast menu, very nice and friendly staff”

It is literally 3-5 minutes walk away from the Central Station. The location is great and it is very peaceful. It is not noisy at all. The rooms are not huge, but they have given everything you need in a room. Tea and Coffee are on the house in the room. There is a hair dryer in the rooms and toiletries are provided. The staff are extremely friendly, and helpful, you don't feel lost in Amsterdam because they guide and help you. Because we don't eat meat and chicken, the ladies at the kitchen went out of their way to make smoked-salmon for us. The breakfast menu is quite extensive and we felt that it was worth paying the amount to have a full stomach breakfast at the hotel rather than spending money outside and then eating again after an hour of walking or so. It is a luxury hotel, do check your budget and pocket... but the location is so romantic, it is worth staying here. Try getting a room that opens in front of the canal. You can sit at the long tall windows, open the windows and chat with your partner as the sunset. It is quite romantic.

“Nice hotel bad location”

The service was very excellent but I was disappointed by the location. The location was not good because the hotel is not near public transportation. The trams were far away and buses did not go near the hotel. It was a long walk from the tram and central station is still a good walk. The canal zone is very deserted at night and I took a cab home because I did not want to get jumped. Remember that the canal zone is a dark area with low powered street lights and bad people have many areas to hide between the cars. Taxis are at least 10 euros from central station and that is why I gave only 4 stars. The canal zone is beautiful but it is only good if you have a bike. I would look at a map of Amsterdam and stay out of a hotel in the Canal zone and try to stay in a hotel next to a tram. Very important!! One more thing excellent Wi-Fi at the hotel and the service was excellent.

“Great Location, Outstanding Service, Wonderful Stay”

This is our first trip to Amsterdam and when we come back again we will definitely stay at Hotel Sebastian's. It is an old building conveniently located within walking distance of the Amsterdam Central and has been modernized and renovated. Our room was behind the bar on the first floor with a canal view and was roomy, comfortable, with a large bathroom, and a wonderful king sized bed. We took advantage of the morning breakfast on one morning and enjoyed it sitting next to a window on the canal. All the staff were super friendly and helpful and their recommendations were excellent. It is located on the Keizersgrachts which makes it a 10 minute stroll to Dam Square, the Red Light district, the floating flower shops, or Ann Frank House. We had bought 3 day GVB passes for the trams and busses but it was so convenient we walked a lot and used the trams when we were tired or it was raining to hard. It was cold and rainy almost our entire stay which made the hotel and the Bar area with a fire a great place to warm the bones and have a drink before going out on another adventure to see the city.

“Champagne on arrival...”

One word - AMAZING! This has got to be one of the best hotels I have stayed at and the price was not damaging at all. We arrived early morning on a Saturday, our room wasn't ready (we didn't expect it to be) so the lovely lady on reception asked us if we wanted to leave our bags so we could go off in to the city. She put them securely in reception and sat us down and gave us a quick brief of Amsterdam. She gave us a very detailed map of Amsterdam, the best places to eat, shop, museums that would be of interest etc. We went out to explore and came back about 15:00, our room was ready, we went upstairs to find our bags already in the room, rose petals over the bed and champagne for us on the house (such lovely touches!). The room was perfect, a beautiful view of the canal, the bathroom was gorgeous. The TV had BBC1 and MTV as well which was great. We stopped for two nights and all the staff were lovely throughout our stay. We opted to have breakfast which was 10 euros each, this was a hot and cold buffet, cereals, tea/coffee, orange and different flavored juices - it's got to be one of the best breakfast's I've had abroad. When we left on the Monday we had a long wait as our flight wasn't until the evening, as our feet were hurting after a long day shopping we went back to the hotel to chill and they have a lovely room up from the restaurant with a TV to watch which was great to put our feet up. Would definitely recommend and have already told friends and family to go here if they do ever visit Amsterdam.

“Great location”

Short version: Great location (near central station, yet quiet), friendly staff, nice if small room, good price by Amsterdam standards. Long version: I really loved the location - a short walk from central station (easy even with luggage), near lots of great independent stores (which makes for great people watching), quiet even on a Friday night. The service was lovely, the guy who checked me in (Julius, I think) gave me some great advice on places to shop (useful even though I'd done my own itinerary planning, the advice from the staff would be even more useful to those who had not) and gave me a list of recommended restaurants by category (which I unfortunately didn't have time to use). They also emailed me after booking to ensure I understood that the single room I'd booked was very small (not really necessary since it was no smaller than any other European single, but very thoughtful). My room was clean and fairly comfortable, I really loved the coffee machine (which many European 3* hotels don't provide). I booked direct and asked for the Rick Steves cash discount, they weren't obliged to give it to me since it's only meant to be valid at their more expensive sister hotel, but they gave it to me anyway! I paid 292eur for 2 nights (including the 10% discount and the 6.25% city tax), which is lot for a very small room, but it seems fair given how expensive Amsterdam hotel rooms are - the Ibis was more expensive, as were hotels further from the city center!

An oasis of peace in the middle of the city centre

An oasis of peace in the middle of the city centre

Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's is just 10 minutes’ walk from central station. Although you’re in the middle of the city centre, you’ll find an oasis of peace on Keizersgracht. Ideal for you to entirely concentrate on your business. There are also innumerable great, trendy and fine restaurants, lunch rooms and cafés within walking distance of the hotel. The employees’ personal service is fantastic - nothing is too much to ask here. There are also various extra facilities for business guests, such as free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, 24-hour reception, laundry service, own Nespresso appliance in the hotel room and cycle hire.
