Many places of interest in the area

The location alone makes Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's the place to be; especially when you’re on a city trip and want to get to know Amsterdam really well. The hotel is within the canal district, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. The Dam and the delightful Jordaan are within walking distance. Other activities include:

Art and culture
Westerkerk and Westertoren are not far from the hotel. Anne Frank Huis is close to Westerkerk. Every year, many visitors visit this historic house to see with their own eyes where Anne Frank stayed in hiding during the Second World War and wrote her world-famous diary. There are a number of fascinating places of interest on the Dam, just a few minutes walk from the hotel: Nieuwe Kerk, Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and Nationaal Monument. At number 51 on the Amstel, there’s the annex of the famous Hermitage in Sint Petersburg: Hermitage Amsterdam. And Amsterdam Museum in the former Burgerweeshuis is very special. The museum is located between all the shops on Kalverstraat and has beautiful inner courtyards, a gallery full of schuttersstukken (paintings) and a well-stocked museum shop.

Children
A trip along the canals of Amsterdam is great to do all year round. There are lots of boat companies in the area, so you can easily step on a tour boat. But you can of course also hire a small boat or pedal boat and explore the canals yourself. TunFun is an indoor playground for children from 0 to 12 in a former car tunnel in the heart of the city. The history of shipping comes to life in children’s exhibitions in Het Scheepvaartmuseum, such as the fairy-tale underwater world of Matje & Roosje and Circus Zee for children up to 6 years.

Shopping
When it comes to shopping, there are possibilities enough. You can go to Magna Plaza shopping centre close to the Dam, to Haarlemmerstraat or Haarlemmerdijk or De 9 Straatjes, where you can find unique and original shops, lunch rooms and restaurants. Large, well-known shopping streets such as Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and P.C. Hooftstraat are also not far from the hotel.

Markets
If you’re in Amsterdam over the weekend, the organic farmers’ market on the Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is highly recommended. You can visit the farmers’ market on Haarlemmerplein every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Every Monday, there’s the famous textile market and vintage and antique market on Westerstraat and Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“Stylish hotel convenient to many points in the city”

My family stayed here for a night with another family on a 23 hour layover. The hotel was in a great part of town and not a long walk from either the train station or the Anne Frank House. When we needed an adapter for our electronics, the front desk pulled out a box full and we could take our pick. The breakfast they served was excellent, and our room was very modern and well appointed. We would definitely return if our travels take us to Amsterdam again.

“One of the best hotels I've stayed in”

We enjoyed our stay at the Sebastian's very much. The hotel is beautiful in a great location on one of the small canals. Our room was spacious, clean and well equipped with everything we could think of. Breakfast was wonderful with a fresh and ample selection for everyone. And yet, the highlight of this hotel is its staff. Calling them "Friendly" is an understatement. Anika, Melanie, Naomi, Stephanie and many others made our stay as comfortable as it could be and we want to thank them again for their hospitality and thoughtfulness.

“Lovely little spot! ”

Stayed 3 nights here with my girlfriend. Really enjoyed it, rooms quaint and pretty unique, slightly small on occasion but the building as with all the others along the canal sides are very old so to be expected. Nice touch having Nespresso machines in each of the rooms for a quick caffeine shot in the mornings. Breakfast is nice, we only ended up having it on the first morning as there are so many little places to eat in the surrounding streets. Staff all very friendly and helpful, superb English as with pretty much every Dutch person we met. Lots of advice for places to go and check out. Definitely hire some bikes and go cruising, cheap and relaxing once you've got the hang of it. Hotel is about 10mins walk from the train station and very central for getting to everywhere else. Although it's slightly away from the inevitable drunken English stag/hen do's which is a big bonus. In summary, recommended as a lovely place to go and experience Amsterdam.

“Fantastic Boutique Hotel”

This hotel is so charming and exactly what I was looking for in my solo trip to Amsterdam. It's in a quaint neighborhood with houses on a nice quiet canal however, it is convenient to restaurants and not too far from the Anne Frank house. The staff was very friendly and answered so many of my touristy questions. My room was small but so charming and they warned me ahead of time it was small - but it was more than adequate for my needs. I had a bus/tram pass however ended up walking most of the time as it was that convenient to the trams. But overall their transportation system is not very good for tourists. I had a wonderful breakfast each morning with some of the best scrambled eggs I have ever had and the workers there were so kind and helpful. I highly recommend this place for a great get away or visit to Amsterdam.

“Fantastic Hotel”

We visited Amsterdam in August 2015 for our 1st Wedding anniversary, on arrival the staff were so helpful as we arrived early before check in so we left our suitcases and went sight seeing. Before we left the receptionist gave us a map and pointed out locations to visit, which was very helpful. When we checked in it was very quick and easy as and when we went to our room there was a bottle of champagne and a letter from the hotel wishing us a happy wedding anniversary, this was a lovely touch. The room is very comfortable and decorated fantastic. The overall stay at this hotel was excellent and we would definitely recommend it to anyone Thank you to the staff at hotel Sebastian's
