Many places of interest in the area

The location alone makes Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's the place to be; especially when you’re on a city trip and want to get to know Amsterdam really well. The hotel is within the canal district, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. The Dam and the delightful Jordaan are within walking distance. Other activities include:

Art and culture
Westerkerk and Westertoren are not far from the hotel. Anne Frank Huis is close to Westerkerk. Every year, many visitors visit this historic house to see with their own eyes where Anne Frank stayed in hiding during the Second World War and wrote her world-famous diary. There are a number of fascinating places of interest on the Dam, just a few minutes walk from the hotel: Nieuwe Kerk, Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and Nationaal Monument. At number 51 on the Amstel, there’s the annex of the famous Hermitage in Sint Petersburg: Hermitage Amsterdam. And Amsterdam Museum in the former Burgerweeshuis is very special. The museum is located between all the shops on Kalverstraat and has beautiful inner courtyards, a gallery full of schuttersstukken (paintings) and a well-stocked museum shop.

Children
A trip along the canals of Amsterdam is great to do all year round. There are lots of boat companies in the area, so you can easily step on a tour boat. But you can of course also hire a small boat or pedal boat and explore the canals yourself. TunFun is an indoor playground for children from 0 to 12 in a former car tunnel in the heart of the city. The history of shipping comes to life in children’s exhibitions in Het Scheepvaartmuseum, such as the fairy-tale underwater world of Matje & Roosje and Circus Zee for children up to 6 years.

Shopping
When it comes to shopping, there are possibilities enough. You can go to Magna Plaza shopping centre close to the Dam, to Haarlemmerstraat or Haarlemmerdijk or De 9 Straatjes, where you can find unique and original shops, lunch rooms and restaurants. Large, well-known shopping streets such as Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and P.C. Hooftstraat are also not far from the hotel.

Markets
If you’re in Amsterdam over the weekend, the organic farmers’ market on the Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is highly recommended. You can visit the farmers’ market on Haarlemmerplein every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Every Monday, there’s the famous textile market and vintage and antique market on Westerstraat and Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Friends getaway

“Wow”

Myself and two friends have recently come back from a delightful stay at Hotel Sebastian's in Amsterdam. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, the staff could not of cared more about our stay. Nothing was to much trouble from advising us were to eat to telling us about a fantastic theatre to watch a film on a wet afternoon. I queried how the coffee maker worked for just hot water as I only drink tea, five minutes later a kettle was left in our room, fantastic service from very help full staff. We all felt this hotel was worth more than a three star rating. Our room (we had a triple deluxe) was lovely the bathroom was huge with a lovely shower, large bath and with toiletries to die for. There was a door leading out to a courtyard which unfortunately we could not use as it rained a lot during our stay. We had a minor issue with one of the beds which was dealt with efficiently and very promptly. It is so nice to find a hotel that actually cares about the people who stay with them. Yes we will be back and yes we will be staying at Hotel Sebastian.

“What More Can I Add?!”

Really glad that we followed the advice of fellow TripAdvisor contributors and stayed at Sebastian's for our visit to Amsterdam. I can only reinforce previous comments ie - the location of the hotel is great, in a quiet area but close enough to the main shops such as Magna Plaza & Dam Square, but also the Nine Little Streets which is strongly recommended. It is also easy to hop on a tram two streets away to get to the museums. - the hotel itself has all the facilities you could want for a short break, including good wi-fi. - the hotel is surrounded by a lot of really good bars, cafes and restaurants. I would recommend a wander into the Jordaan area for good value off the usual tourist routes. - the buffet breakfast is excellent quality and good value for the price. - above all, we were extremely impressed by the attitude, friendliness and quality of all the staff, without exception, which is not something that can always be said. As others have said, we would also return to Sebastian's without hesitation. A great hotel at a great price.

“Delightful Hotel”

Writing this review at the airport having experienced first class service from warm and friendly staff at Hotel Sebastian's. From first entering the establishment until departing, my wife and I felt most welcome and it appeared the aim of the staff was to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. We had booked a small double room, which we were happy with, and appreciated greatly the management gesture of offering us breakfast free of charge during our stay. The complimentary refreshment at the bar was also a nice touch, and such little things do make a difference. The hotel is situated in a lovely quiet residential area yet just a 15 minute walk from Dam Square and less to the Centraal Station. We would recommend without hesitation this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam. Thank you again to all at Hotel Sebastian's.

“Fabulous location, great room, great staff”

We booked our four night stay here based upon previous reviews and the location and we weren't disappointed. For our first family visit to Amsterdam we wanted to be near the centre but in a nice location which was not too noisy. The location of the hotel is perfect, just a short walk from the centre on the edge of one of the canals in a quiet street. On our arrival we were greeted by staff who gave us a map and explained all the areas o the city which we might be interested in which was a huge help to us during our stay as it helped us go to the places we wanted to see. The room was a triple room and was a garden room with a bath, the room was large and airy and had everything you could wish for fabulous Nesspresso coffee machine with a huge variety of coffee pods / teas etc which were refilled each day. Room was kept lovely and clean and tidy by the staff each day. Beds were soft and comfortable and our room had air conditioning so we were able to keep the temperature just to our liking. Breakfast was optional and was reasonably priced at €10 adult and €5 for children and was a buffet style plenty of choice, cereal, juices, pastries, cold meats and traditional english, the scrambled eggs were devine. We would happily go back there tomorrow, Amsterdam is a lovely city and this hotel is ideal to make your trip a special one.
