Many places of interest in the area

The location alone makes Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's the place to be; especially when you’re on a city trip and want to get to know Amsterdam really well. The hotel is within the canal district, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. The Dam and the delightful Jordaan are within walking distance. Other activities include:

Art and culture
Westerkerk and Westertoren are not far from the hotel. Anne Frank Huis is close to Westerkerk. Every year, many visitors visit this historic house to see with their own eyes where Anne Frank stayed in hiding during the Second World War and wrote her world-famous diary. There are a number of fascinating places of interest on the Dam, just a few minutes walk from the hotel: Nieuwe Kerk, Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and Nationaal Monument. At number 51 on the Amstel, there’s the annex of the famous Hermitage in Sint Petersburg: Hermitage Amsterdam. And Amsterdam Museum in the former Burgerweeshuis is very special. The museum is located between all the shops on Kalverstraat and has beautiful inner courtyards, a gallery full of schuttersstukken (paintings) and a well-stocked museum shop.

Children
A trip along the canals of Amsterdam is great to do all year round. There are lots of boat companies in the area, so you can easily step on a tour boat. But you can of course also hire a small boat or pedal boat and explore the canals yourself. TunFun is an indoor playground for children from 0 to 12 in a former car tunnel in the heart of the city. The history of shipping comes to life in children’s exhibitions in Het Scheepvaartmuseum, such as the fairy-tale underwater world of Matje & Roosje and Circus Zee for children up to 6 years.

Shopping
When it comes to shopping, there are possibilities enough. You can go to Magna Plaza shopping centre close to the Dam, to Haarlemmerstraat or Haarlemmerdijk or De 9 Straatjes, where you can find unique and original shops, lunch rooms and restaurants. Large, well-known shopping streets such as Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and P.C. Hooftstraat are also not far from the hotel.

Markets
If you’re in Amsterdam over the weekend, the organic farmers’ market on the Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is highly recommended. You can visit the farmers’ market on Haarlemmerplein every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Every Monday, there’s the famous textile market and vintage and antique market on Westerstraat and Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“Good service”

Pros - service was good. Room comfortable though we booked a pretty small room. Reception was very helpful with dining recommendations and directions. Quiet and scenic part Cons - my main gripe was that we walked from the Central Station with luggage. It is so far! About 25 mins with luggage. Recommended to take a cab. I would have preferred a hotel very near the Central Station since I was coming and leaving by train. Hotel is great if you don't mind the location.

“A Great Hotel in A Peaceful location”

My son and I have just returned from a short break in Amsterdam and stayed at Sebastian's Hotel on the Keizersgracht. What a Find! The hotel is owned and run by Mr and Mrs Toren who both have an eye for detail, comfort and service. All the staff from reception, bar, chambers maids and the maintenance man are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble whatever the request and if information is not to hand, this will be sought for you. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean, the beds are the most comfortable of any hotel that I have stayed in, and I have stayed in a few over my 75yrs, both on business and leisure, and everything is thought of down to the details like tissues on the bed side cabinets. The coffee machine in the room was a step too far for us as neither of us have a Ph.D. in coffee machine operation, so we asked if it were possible to have a kettle. The usual Dutch answer came back "Of Course" and within about 3 minutes there was a knock on the door and there was a kettle. The reason for the kettle incidentally was that we drink tea. The scene for the service and detail was first set when we arrived fairly early in the morning and our room was not ready. We left our suitcases and asked where was the best place to get our chipkaarts for the buses and trams. Back came the reply "We have them here" That job was off the list then. When we returned later that day and went to our room, I found that the lift pull handle on my suitcase had broken. Within a couple of minutes there was a knock on the door and the reception staff had found the missing part and if I let them have the case they would have it fixed. Within about five minutes, knock at the door and there was the case back as good as new. Convenience and service are the key things here. The shuttle bus stops and picks up from outside the hotel's door to Schiphol Airport which is on time, comfortable and a relaxing way to make the journey. One item of information missing from the Hotel's website is that they have a laundry service which is very good, should this be needed. Amsterdam is a unique, vibrant and entertaining place to visit with everybody relaxed and smiling and this theme is also present at the Sebastian's hotel. The hotel however is in a quiet part of town but just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas. I can't praise the hotel enough for its relaxed but efficient style and most certainly deserves four stars instead of its current three. You won't be disappointed should you choose to stay here.

“Great stay at this hotel”

The hotel is located in a quiet part of the town, on a lovely canal. About 10-15 minutes' walk to Central Station and to tram stops. Hotel staff are very helpful. Their local attractions/restaurant recommendations were also great. Rooms are of a good size, and beds are comfortable. The hotel has lifts, air conditioning, and rooms are equipped with a Nesperreso machine. Breakfasts are fresh with healthy choices. Really cannot ask for more for a good base to explore the city. Overall a great stay!

“We loved Hotel Sebastian's!”

Hotel Sebastian's is a wonderful little place overlooking Keizersgracht, one of the three main canals in Amsterdam. The place is spotless, with comfortable beds and a fair sized bathroom. We stayed in one of the small rooms which is indeed small but perfect for our three night stay. The hotel is a short walk from many of Amsterdam's major attractions. The defining characteristic of Sebastian's is by far the friendly and helpful staff. The excellent service began during the reservation process and continued throughout our visit. We had a concern about a piece of my husband's medical equipment and the two young men at the front desk worked tirelessly to track down someone who could help us. Thank you Julius and Teri. If we are fortunate enough to return to Amsterdam, we'll head straight to Hotel Sebastian's.

An oasis of peace in the middle of the city centre

Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's is just 10 minutes’ walk from central station. Although you’re in the middle of the city centre, you’ll find an oasis of peace on Keizersgracht. Ideal for you to entirely concentrate on your business. There are also innumerable great, trendy and fine restaurants, lunch rooms and cafés within walking distance of the hotel. The employees’ personal service is fantastic - nothing is too much to ask here.
