Many places of interest in the area

The location alone makes Hampshire Boutique Hotel - Sebastian's the place to be; especially when you’re on a city trip and want to get to know Amsterdam really well. The hotel is within the canal district, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. The Dam and the delightful Jordaan are within walking distance. Other activities include:

Art and culture
Westerkerk and Westertoren are not far from the hotel. Anne Frank Huis is close to Westerkerk. Every year, many visitors visit this historic house to see with their own eyes where Anne Frank stayed in hiding during the Second World War and wrote her world-famous diary. There are a number of fascinating places of interest on the Dam, just a few minutes walk from the hotel: Nieuwe Kerk, Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and Nationaal Monument. At number 51 on the Amstel, there’s the annex of the famous Hermitage in Sint Petersburg: Hermitage Amsterdam. And Amsterdam Museum in the former Burgerweeshuis is very special. The museum is located between all the shops on Kalverstraat and has beautiful inner courtyards, a gallery full of schuttersstukken (paintings) and a well-stocked museum shop.

Children
A trip along the canals of Amsterdam is great to do all year round. There are lots of boat companies in the area, so you can easily step on a tour boat. But you can of course also hire a small boat or pedal boat and explore the canals yourself. TunFun is an indoor playground for children from 0 to 12 in a former car tunnel in the heart of the city. The history of shipping comes to life in children’s exhibitions in Het Scheepvaartmuseum, such as the fairy-tale underwater world of Matje & Roosje and Circus Zee for children up to 6 years.

Shopping
When it comes to shopping, there are possibilities enough. You can go to Magna Plaza shopping centre close to the Dam, to Haarlemmerstraat or Haarlemmerdijk or De 9 Straatjes, where you can find unique and original shops, lunch rooms and restaurants. Large, well-known shopping streets such as Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and P.C. Hooftstraat are also not far from the hotel.

Markets
If you’re in Amsterdam over the weekend, the organic farmers’ market on the Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is highly recommended. You can visit the farmers’ market on Haarlemmerplein every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Every Monday, there’s the famous textile market and vintage and antique market on Westerstraat and Noordermarkt from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“Great Hotel!”

I stayed with my girls (14 and 10) for 4 nights in Jan 2015. We had an excellent stay! The staff is great...what can I add to previous reviews...they reccomended major sites and gave us directions, they helped us get tickets for the tram and explained how to use them, reccomended restaurants to us... The hotel is located on one of the canals, in a beautiful, quiet and safe neighbourhood. It is very near the train station (we walked with our luggage to and from the hotel and we survived all the close encounters with bikes and trams along the way!). The room was spacious and clean (Room 227; 3 people). Our window looked to the back of the property, which I found really interesting. We could see a couple of beautiful gardens, spy some neighbouring kitchens...there was even a shed with rabbits and hens! I reccomend the back view- and it must be even lovelier in spring! The room was well equipped, toilettries, minibar and complimentary Nespresso coffee machine! The decor is a bit dark but it is consistent with the rest of the hotel and was well maintained. What I regretted is that there was no chest of drawers or space to keep your clothes folded in the cupboard. When I stay for more than 2 days in a hotel I prefer to unpack, at least what I am planning to use during my stay. In this case we had to keep the clothes in our luggage (we just unpacked our coats and shoes). There was enough space in the room for us to keep our three pieces of luggage lying on the floor and move around. This might not be a big deal for most travellers but just wanted to mention it. Breakfast was great but not included. We had breakfast at the hotel the first day only. After that, we bought some basics in a supermarket nearby and used the coffee/ tea provided. I would definitely reccomend this hotel to anyone going to Amsterdam!

“20 out of 10 for customer service”

We stayed for 3 nights in December and just wanted to support other positive reviews of a great hotel. The hotel is in an ideal location for visiting Amsterdam. What is outstanding is the level of customer service, from the minute you arrive until you leave - with, no doubt like us, every intention of staying there again when visiting Amsterdam. There is an obvious culture of making customers enjoy every aspect of their stay coming directly from the owners. They could certainly teach a lot of other hotels that great customer service is all about attitude, manner and the small things. All the team are consistently good. A big thanks from us to the whole team for a fantastic stay which made our first trip to Amsterdam so enjoyable.

“Wonderful hotel - great location, good value”

We had a hard time choosing a hotel in Amsterdam. I knew I wanted to be in the Jordaan neighborhood and I was almost set on booking The Pulitzer. When I found out that The Pulitzer only offered 30 minutes of free wi-fi per day, I knew I wouldn't book is just on principle. Then I found Sebastian's, which turned out to be a real stroke of luck. The location was ideal - a 10 minute walk from the main train station, on Keizergracht. (Note - DO NOT take a taxi here from the station - or preferably anywhere in Amsterdam as they are grossly overpriced). The front desk emailed me a photo of walking directions from Google Maps and it was a really easy and direct route. When you arrive at the hotel, you immediately notice the decor. The website describes it as jazzy, though I'd say it's "gothic jazzy." There is a lot of texture, with a black and purple theme. It works, it's just not my style. Still, I think it's very "Amsterdam." The room: We had a deluxe canal-view room. It was small. While I feel like you "need" a canal view in Amsterdam, we really couldn't take advantage of the view because the window was a large step down from the main part of the room and the step was blocked by a table, two chairs and a mini fridge. So in this case, the view wasn't worth the extra expense. Despite being small, the room was comfortable enough once we situated our luggage out of the way. The bedside tables were just shelves screwed into the wall and they were too small and basically useless. But the bed was comfortable and large, and we didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway. The major drawback of the room was the bathroom - it was absurdly small. I'm not complaining, because I suspect this is the case throughout most of Amsterdam (based on restaurants and sites we visited), but just to let you know what to expect. My husband is 6'2" and he could not sit straight on the toilet without his knees hitting the door/wall in front of him. The stand-up shower and the bathroom in general was a bit on the dingy side, also. The staff: All of the staff were very friendly. They made dinner reservations for us, gave us maps and directions, and even purchased museum tickets on our behalf. They clearly were happy to go above and beyond, which was very much appreciated. We were offered complimentary breakfast for two days of our stay and it was very good, with ample variety and quality food. We took an overnight trip to Belgium and left our luggage at the hotel, which was great. When we returned, it was life we'd never left - the staff had all of our things waiting for us back in our room. Our only issue was with the gentleman who was usually at the desk at night (blond) - he didn't seem to be very familiar with the public transportation in the city and gave us some bad directions and once we asked for ice to be brought up to our room while we were gone and it didn't happen. The gentleman who was usually on the desk in the morning was much better at giving advice about the city. Overall, I would recommend this hotel because it's a good value. The hotels in Amsterdam are expensive and comparatively, this one was not. There are some great restaurants nearby, you're away from the hustle of the red light district, but close enough to feel you are a part of the city. Plus, you're close enough to the train station to get around, but not so close that you feel unsafe or that you're in a seedy area.

“Wow!”

I wish it were possible to add another star to this review, for in truth this hotel desreves it!! I did wonder what the hotel would be like, after all booking on line is always a risk, but I need not have worried. From the moment of our arrival till the day of our departure the hotel was faultless. The situation is excellent and access to all of Amsterdam is just around the corner. The breakfast buffet was a delight and set us up each morning for the rigours of museum visits etc. So what is it that makes me commend this wonderful hotel? The staff were superb and constantly attentive and the room was spotless, comfortable and warm, but finally and most impressive of all was their kindness and generosity on the occassion of my birthday! We arrived home, pretty exhausted by a "day at the museum" to find a bottle of champagne, on ice, with a charming note from the management - WOW!! Will I stay there again - you bet I will ........whether it's my birthday or not. Thank you Sebastian's for a fabulous stay.

Ideal for you to entirely concentrate on your business. There are also innumerable great, trendy and fine restaurants, lunch rooms and cafés within walking distance of the hotel.
