Straight from the hotel to the golf course

For the true golf lover there is of course nothing nicer than being able to walk straight from the hotel room to the golf course. At Hampshire Golfhotel - Waterland, the golfer also has the choice of four different loops of 18 holes: red, yellow, blue and white. Each course is certainly different, but they all have one thing in common: many water features. Perfect for those who like a challenge.

In the Municipality of Waterland you see North Holland at its most beautiful. The towns in this water-rich area are all worth a visit. Monnickendam, Broek in Waterland and Marken are exceptionally charming. Not far from Hampshire Golfhotel – Waterland is De Beemster, the area famed for its cheese and proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site. And we’ve still not even mentioned Edam, Volendam and Purmerend...

Unique fishing villages, world-renowned museums

There are enough fantastic towns and villages in the neighbourhood of the Hampshire Golfhotel – Waterland. Time seems to have stood still somewhat in these places. That’s certainly so in the unique fishing village of Volendam, on the former island of Marken and the cheese town Edam. A few tips about the surroundings:

The hotel is just 20 minutes from the centre of Amsterdam. Head for Museumplein and you immediately have the three most visited museums within reach: the Stedelijk Museum with its unique collection of contemporary art, the Rijksmuseum with famous masterpieces including De Nachtwacht and the Van Gogh Museum with the largest collection of Vincent van Gogh paintings in the world.

De Zaanse Schans is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country. In this special place you’ll find various museums, windmills, traditional crafts and shops. Together they paint a picture of life here in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. You can have photos made of the whole family in traditional costume in the fishing village of Volendam, or visit the small wooden fisherman’s houses in the Volendams Museum. And you never know, you may come across a famous Volendam singer.

Interesting for children and adults is the Anne Frank Huis on Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, where Anne wrote her diary. On the East side of Amsterdam, you’ll find the oldest zoo in the Netherlands: Artis. Children who want to experiment and discover can go to the futuristic Science Center NEMO on the IJ.

Top quality lunch and dinner

Top quality lunch and dinner

Restaurant Magnolia’s
Hampshire Golfhotel – Waterland’s restaurant is not just a restaurant, but a restaurant with an entry in the Michelin Guide. The Head Chef and his team achieve this level every day. The lunch and dinner menu is extremely complete, with various cuisines (Indonesian, Japanese, French, and Dutch) as sources of inspiration. Perhaps you’d like finely carved steak with truffle mayonnaise, quail eggs and cabbage lettuce? If you can’t decide from the à la carte menu, or you’d like to be surprised by the Chef, then go for the daily changing Menu Marché. The wine menu is also extremely complete, with an extensive description of each wine - red, white and rosé.

“A quiet and smart alternative to big-city Amsterdam hotels”

The Hampshire Golfhotel at Purmerend is nice and comfortable hotel close to Amsterdam and my family and I had a great five days there. It is a very good place to stay and relax after a busy day at the sights in Amsterdam city. Rooms are large and modern. Staff helpful. Staying there is fine, also for people like us, who are not golfers. The location is in the small town of Purmerend. It works best if you have a car, but you can get to Amsterdam Centraal by bus in an easy 25min bus ride - if you want to do this, get a OV Chipkaart at the railway station. Also, from Purmerend station, it is easy to get to Schiphol, though you do need to ride the bus to get from hotel to Purmerend station. If you are in doubt about bus and train infrastructure, you can look it up on Google maps. A small local towncentre including a Jumbo supermarket is a 15 min walk away. There are no real decent restaurants close, but the hotel Magnolia restaurant is surprisingly good. While rooms are nice, they do not have a lot of features. Only some room have kettles, there is no fridge or minibar. Our rooms had free wifi (phew, what a relief!). No fitness facilities, though the surroundings are good for jogging. Bottom line, it is a great place. Room rates are wildly attractive compared to hotels in Amsterdam city.

“Relaxing and nice”

As I am regular customer of this hotel, I can say that every time it's positive experience for me. I wasn't only their guest in Purmerend, but also in Delft, The Hague, Rotterdam, etc., and it's always nice, professional, and good value for money.

“Not as I expected”

We were in this Hotel in 2008 and came back in 2015 January 28. First of all everything in this Hotel is old. Clean but old. As you will see in the pictures, the Hotel was not renovated since our last visit in 2008. Indeed is a very quite area, in the countryside at 18km from Centraal Station Amsterdam. Beds have separate mats so if you are a couple it's difficult to sleep embraced with the loved ones...Food at breakfast was good, not so many but enough options and good quality. Staff was really friendly and helpful. One problem I spotted, we put sign on the door 'Do not disturb' but cleaning lady came in the room anyway. Locks at the doors were with key not card....come on it's 2015, not even 2-3 stars hotels utilize this overdue system for door lock. And what I found very amusing was that the hairdryer was in the closet not in the bathroom. I never saw this in any hotel and cannot say is good or bad idea. Another problem was that the Reception lady gave us a schedule for bus and we found out that it was overdue, not coinciding with real schedule of the bus to and from Amsterdam. We had to wait 20 minutes in a freezing cold to catch the next bus. This could be avoided if the Hotel Reception would gave us the correct schedule. I attached the picture of the real bus schedule. Last bus that leaves from Centraal towards Pumerend is at 1AM, so if you are planing to have fun until late at night, be prepared to pay 50eur for a taxi from Centraal to Hotel, or wait until 5AM to get the first bus. Return ticket for bus is 10eur/person, valid one day. The ticket for return has to be used in the same day, so if you buy a ticket before 0:00 you cannot use it to return at 5AM. Overall I would say is a good idea to book at this Hotel, especially for the price offer we had ( very low price for 4 star in Amsterdam ).

“Surrounded by green a good atmosphere and high-standard food”

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 1 night at Christmas 2014. We had a Christmasbuffetlunch and the quality of all the meals were outstanding, especially the presentation of the first course, all starters like duckham/carpaccio with truffledressing and rucola/a variety of fish, plated on black. Everything was freshcooked and you can taste that the staff in the kitchen had good knowledge of flavours and combinations. Also the wine-suggestion was perfect, there is also a possibilty to choose for biodynamic wines. The restaurant Magnolia was welldressed for the Christmastime and also the lobby. We felt welcome! We slept well in our large room and we had a marvellous view on the golfsite! The only thing we regret was the fact that you have to pay for using internet in your room. The rest of the hotel is the internet without charge. Also the staff is very friendly and cooperative. We will book again this year!

Big plus point for business guests: the golf course

Big plus point for business guests: the golf course

Hampshire Golfhotel - Waterland is valued very highly by business guests. This is certainly partly because of the golf course in front of the door. This makes it really easy to combine the useful (meetings) with the pleasant (golf). But there are more plus points. The hotel is just 20 minutes from Amsterdam and 30 minutes from Schiphol, it has its own excellent restaurant and there are various extra services, such as free Wi-Fi in public areas, free parking, free use of the fitness area and a breakfast to-goservice.

Meeting with views of the golf course
All eight Hampshire Golfhotel – Waterland meeting rooms have views across the golf course. They are suitable for  large and small groups, from 2 to 200 people and all have natural light. The rooms are also provided with Wi-Fi and air-conditioning and all necessary modern audiovisual equipment such as projector, screen, sound system and microphone.
You can look out across the golf course from the meeting room and could just leave it at that. But you can also make the course a part of your programme, by, for example, organising a golf clinic or your own golf tournament!
