A weekend break in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen

Hampshire Hotel – City Terneuzen is the ideal address for a weekend break in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Thanks to its central location, there are plenty of options. You can walk or cycle in the nature areas. The centre of Terneuzen is easy to reach by car or bus from the Hampshire Hotel – City Terneuzen. There are some lovely walks through Oud-Terneuzen, whose rich history is reflected in the old houses and streets, the arsenal building and the sixteenth century fortifications. At the Portaal van Vlaanderen, you can view the famous lock complex of the harbour city from nearby. And on Scheldeboulevard, you have a wonderful view over the Western Scheldt.

Zeeuws-Vlaanderen stands for peace, sea and beach. It is an area with lots of history, which is reflected in fortified towns like Hulst and Sluis. The many culinary hotspots add to the atmosphere. The municipality of Sluis alone has numerous exquisite restaurants. For example, Oud Sluis (3 star), La Trinité Sluis (1 star) and De Kromme Watergang (1 star). As you can see: this is the place for gourmets. But the surroundings of Terneuzen also have lots to offer nature lovers. In various nature areas, you can take long walks or cycle tours. Other tips:

Walks
There are some lovely walks trough the town of Terneuzen. Past the Arsenaal (military building dating from 1833), the Willibrordustoren, the (old) Town Hall on Noordstraat, the Moffenschans (sixteenth century farmhouse) and the Monument De Vliegende Hollander.

Culture
At the Portaal van Vlaanderen, you can view the sea lock complex of Terneuzen. In the months of July and August, there are daily tours here. In Vlissingen, there is the lovely muZEEum, where you can experience the significance of the sea in the stormy history of Zeeland. Historisch Museum de Bevelanden is the treasury of the cultural heritage of North and South Beveland.

Children
On a rainy day, the children (and adults) can enjoy the indoor play paradise de Toversluis. Also fun: the subtropical swimming paradise Scheldorado. For a meeting with kids' heroes K3, Bumba and Mega Mindy, you can visit one of the Plopsaland theme parks in Belgium.

Events
Every June, Terneuzen celebrates the Havendagen, focusing on the harbour and the water. Markets, live performances and a fair are always part of this festivity. The big jazz festival Schelde Jazz is also held in June.

Beach
Half an hour's drive from the hotel are the most famous sandy beaches of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen: Groede, Nieuwvliet and Cadzand.
