The city of Willem van Oranje and Delfts Blauw

All places of interest in the old city centre of Delft are close to each other, making them easy to explore on foot. You’ll can’t help but come across historic places and buildings, such as Nieuwe Kerk, the place where Willem van Oranje is buried, Het Prinsenhof, the place where Willem van Oranje was murdered and Oude Kerk. More tips:

Museums
At Vermeercentrum, next to Nieuwe Kerk, you’ll discover everything about the life of Johannes Vermeer. The centre is constructed on the spot where the home of the world-famous painter used to be. In Museum Het Prinsenhof you can see the exact place where Willem van Oranje was murdered by Balthazar Gerards on 10 July 1584. Delft is inextricably linked with Delfts Blauw. In the Royal Delft Koninklijke Porcelyne Fles you can see how the pottery is made. Through tests and research, Science Center Delft shows you what students at the Technische Universiteit are doing.

Countryside
There are various nature reserves and sanctuaries in the direct surroundings of the hotel, such as Bieslandse Polder and Vlietlanden. De Delfste Hout recreation and nature reserve is the place for walking, cycling and numerous outdoor activities.

Children
Children from nine years on can search for a Secret Chest (Geheim Kistje) in Museum Het Prinsenhof. In a playful way they get to know more about the life and death of Willem van Oranje. Older and younger children can live it up on the play equipment in the indoor play paradise, Kids Playground. In Theater de Veste there are regular great children’s performances on the programme.

Dining with live music and a fantastic view

Dining with live music and a fantastic view

Restaurant Swing
This restaurant’s menu has exclusively French-Dutch dishes that can be ordered à la carte. There are croquettes of confit duck breast with spicy mustard mayonnaise, or pan-fried sea bass with a lime sauce, and organic beef burger with mushrooms, bacon and onion. As well as separate dishes, guests can choose from a special surprise menu, with or without accompanying selected drinks. And we’re not talking here about just any selected drinks, because restaurant Swing has an exclusive range of wines from the Chilean Bouchon wine merchant and pours only jenevers, liqueurs and brandies from Rutte & Zn. distillery.
The restaurant lives up to its name every Tuesday and Thursday evening, when there’s live music. Another special detail to mention is the unique view from the restaurant across the centre of Delft.

“It's OK but.............”

Was here with a group tour. Comfortable, welcoming hotel, adequate size double room, huge window with a 'Juliet' balcony, well appointed, as is the shower room, (no bath). Very mean though with the tea, coffee etc, enough for one, small, cup each, no biscuits! Room service less than perfect, but not too bad. Comfortable beds, good bed-head reading lights, ample power plugs and large TV. Exceptional meals in the "Swing" restaurant, with very attentive and pleasant staff. Adequate menu choice, nicely presented food, (but see below). Many breakfast choices, though cooked food could have been hotter. Good choice of fruit, cereals, bread and rolls. All the good noted above was destroyed by one appalling night of loud jazz 'music' in the lounge which kept us awake until five in the morning. Our room, 303, was directly above the outside smoking area and the constant chatter below added to our considerable irritation. A totally unacceptable situation for which there was no warning, not that we could have done anything about it even had there been any. This alone would ensure that I would not choose to stay in a Hampshire Hotel Group anywhere in future. The restaurant was closed on Sunday because they "could not get fresh food supplies that day". What happened to forward planning and refrigerators? Later that week the only 3 waiting staff were overwhelmed by the number of clients and we all had very long waits, a) to be given a menu, b) longer to have our orders taken, and c) even longer to get them served. What a shame that the service did not match the quality of the food. Quite expensive too. Hotel is excellently located with 5-10 minutes walk to town centre with many attractions, shops, cafes and restaurants, some of which DO open on Sundays and have adequate staffing levels. No car park. Beware of cyclists, and eat out.

“Bad experience..”

Hi, We booked 5 nights in a a Deluxe room (with king size bed) to visit family and enjoy Delft. We arrived on the evening and got a room on 8th floor, but the air conditioner was on and we could not turn it off or change the temperature and it was very noisy. The next day in the morning, I asked to fix the air conditioner or turn it off completely (it was 20°C max in Delft), and they told me someone will repair it. When we came back in the evening, it was not fixed.. We had to ask for a new room because we were getting sick with this cold air.. They gave us a standard room on the 2nd flor, because they had no more Deluxe room, and we were very very happy because we could finally turn off the air conditionner in this new room !! (no more noise and cold) The next day in the morning, someone came and gave us a letter to explain they apology and would gave us a new deluxe room.. great !! After breakfast, we went to the reception to get this new room and followed someone of the staff to check this new room on the 7th floor, but there was already a customer in this room!! After a few minutes, we went to check another new room on the 7th floor, but this time the false ceiling was removed and there was some work in progress on the air conditioner.. We had the feeling to loose our time and our holydays. We went back furious to our 2nd floor room. One hour after they offered us a standard room on the 6th floor with a nice view on Delft.. The building is beautiful and almost new, but they don't care about their customers.

“Conference”

I stayed in July 2014 in this hotel while attending a conference. The room was fine although much closer to a 3 start hotel than 4. One evening there was a gentlemen trying to get into my room because the receptionist had written the wrong room number in his key holder. Breakfast was included with the room and again it was not to the expected standard. I lack of wireless internet on my room for the last half of the stay and when I called to reception to let them know and expecting that they would do something about it their replay was to plug my computer and use my phone in public areas without explaining or apologising for the change. In general, they were very unhelpful and dismissing staff. In summary, I wouldn't stay here again.

“Very professional”

All of my dealings with this hotel were very professional, from the initial booking to checking in. The reception staff stored our groups bicycles safely. The room was clean and spacious and the breakfast set us up for another day of cycling. Well done to the Hampshire Hotel.

“Hampshire Hotel, Delft - could it be any worse”

Helping my colleague from Greece arriving after a long trip arriving at the Hampshire we were confronted by the receptionist by the name of Cally who said the reservation was cancelled because they had used her room (booked 3 months in advance) for a group booking. She was totally unhelpful, not the least bit sorry, and could provide no further assistance - not abe to access reservations, manager had gone home etc. She wanted my colleague to stay at another hotel for one night and then come back to the Hampshire for the next 2 nights. NO WAY. So my colleague wanted to cancel but Cally, helpful as ever, said she was unable to do that, We had to wait a whole hour for someone to help who could actually be bothered to give assistance to cancel the reservation (they were still holding the credit card number), Caly must be the most unpleasant hotel receptionist I have ever met. Listening to her talking to the other guests - and being really unhelpful to someone who was asking if there were any other hotels in the area with parking "Of course not - this is Delft cit centre, what do you expect". In fact we found an extremely nice hotel nearby, the Westcord, with friendly staff, a big car park, beautiful rooms, nice restaurant etc. Abd CHEAPER, so if you are thinking of staying in Delft never ever go to the Hampshire. It may look OK from the outside but inside it is a real dump. The behaviour of Cally suggests she hates her job, so it must be a really unpleasant place to work. No one is going to care about you there - though we were eventally helped by a nice boy who said he worked in the kitchen. What sort of management leave a hotel packed full of guests in the hands of a totally incompetent disaffected young girl with absolutely no-one senior present. From the look of the place I would not be surprised if they didnt have all sorts of issues. Dont go there to find out!!!,

Dear Sir / Madam, We are sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience at our hotel. What a pity we were not able to help you in a good way. Our employees are generally very helpful and passionate regarding their work in our hotel. Due to the privacy of our staff, we are very sorry that you mention concerned employee by name. We are having our entire team responsible for our guests, not just the employee that you mention. Obviously we want to avoid this in the future and we apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. Sincerely, Janine H Marketing Manager Hampshire Hotel Delft Centre
