The city of Willem van Oranje and Delfts Blauw

All places of interest in the old city centre of Delft are close to each other, making them easy to explore on foot. You’ll can’t help but come across historic places and buildings, such as Nieuwe Kerk, the place where Willem van Oranje is buried, Het Prinsenhof, the place where Willem van Oranje was murdered and Oude Kerk. More tips:

Museums
At Vermeercentrum, next to Nieuwe Kerk, you’ll discover everything about the life of Johannes Vermeer. The centre is constructed on the spot where the home of the world-famous painter used to be. In Museum Het Prinsenhof you can see the exact place where Willem van Oranje was murdered by Balthazar Gerards on 10 July 1584. Delft is inextricably linked with Delfts Blauw. In the Royal Delft Koninklijke Porcelyne Fles you can see how the pottery is made. Through tests and research, Science Center Delft shows you what students at the Technische Universiteit are doing.

Countryside
There are various nature reserves and sanctuaries in the direct surroundings of the hotel, such as Bieslandse Polder and Vlietlanden. De Delfste Hout recreation and nature reserve is the place for walking, cycling and numerous outdoor activities.

Children
Children from nine years on can search for a Secret Chest (Geheim Kistje) in Museum Het Prinsenhof. In a playful way they get to know more about the life and death of Willem van Oranje. Older and younger children can live it up on the play equipment in the indoor play paradise, Kids Playground. In Theater de Veste there are regular great children’s performances on the programme.

Dining with live music and a fantastic view

Dining with live music and a fantastic view

Restaurant Swing
This restaurant’s menu has exclusively French-Dutch dishes that can be ordered à la carte. There are croquettes of confit duck breast with spicy mustard mayonnaise, or pan-fried sea bass with a lime sauce, and organic beef burger with mushrooms, bacon and onion. As well as separate dishes, guests can choose from a special surprise menu, with or without accompanying selected drinks. And we’re not talking here about just any selected drinks, because restaurant Swing has an exclusive range of wines from the Chilean Bouchon wine merchant and pours only jenevers, liqueurs and brandies from Rutte & Zn. distillery.
The restaurant lives up to its name every Tuesday and Thursday evening, when there’s live music. Another special detail to mention is the unique view from the restaurant across the centre of Delft.

“Very nice location”

We had a nice weekend at the hotel, so close to the city, I surely will repeat that. Probably the last summer weekend of this year, everything was delightful. The service was very friendly and helped where ever they could.

“Everything was good”

Everything was really perfect. Don't change anything. We booked an action called "herfstweken", which included dinner, breakfast and one night. Both dinner and breakfast were really good and tasty. There was plenty of different nice stuff for the breakfast and good choice for dinner. Location is also really good, in the center of Delft, but a bit distant from the crowd.

“Excellent hotel, exceptional staff”

I stayed in this hotel for four nights with 6 other members of my family in August. Our ages ranged from 15 to 81. We stayed in three rooms. We all thought the hotel was excellent in terms of accommodation and service. Our rooms were spacious, bright and clean. The room on floor 7 with a balcony was lovely to catch the late afternoon sun and look out over Delft. The best thing about the hotel was its staff. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. We were greeted warmly on arrival and the reception staff helped us with all sorts of queries, taxi bookings and advice. The restaurant staff accommodated our various culinary needs - we had two coeliacs and two vegetarians in our group. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were fantastic - lots of choice and food of really good quality. The hotel itself is modern and comfortable. The location is great - just a 10 minute walk into the old centre of the city. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We had a wonderful holiday and a very positive experience of staying in the Netherlands.

“Total Disappointment”

Booked a large deluxe room. Checked in and found room was small. Room was supposed to have a couch next to the bed, but there was no room for a couch. Hotel advertised that the room came with about a dozen amenities, but actually had only 4. View was of a school complex, not the old town as advertised. Bathroom smelled like a dirty mop. No coffee maker in room. We asked to move to a room that matched what was advertised, and were told that no other rooms were available. Seeing as check-in was at 3pm and we checked in at 3:40, this didn't add up. We unpacked, then went into town. After we returned, I decided to complain, as the 178€ price we paid was far off from what we were getting, and we just couldn't accept the situation. While my wife took a shower, I went to reception. I asked for the manager and was told he went home but would be back in 15 to 30 minutes. When i returned to the room, my wife informed me that the shower wasn't draining. At this point it was decided that we needed to vacate the room. After 35 minutes I called down to reception and was told the manager wasn't in yet. I told the person that the shower drain was clogged. The response was "ok". I told her that we needed a different room. She said there was nothing she could do as she was only a trainee. I asked to speak to someone who was not a trainee. She said someone would call in a few minutes. Meanwhile, we packed our bags. No call. So that was the last straw. We went down to reception and asked to cancel the room. The non trainee person apologized and said that since the manager could not be contacted, she couldn't do anything to rectify the issues, so she canceled our reservation and we went to a different hotel. It was clear that the staff were unable to provide any solutions to issues that arose and that all decisions were in the hands of the absent manager.
Owner Response of Hampshire Hotel - Delft Centre
Dear SteveYo, What a pity to hear that you had a bad experience with our hotel. What a shame to hear that your problems could not be resolved at that moment. We have different types of deluxe rooms, not all rooms have a sofa. Obviously the bathroom needs to be fresh smelling and a coffee maker needed to be present. We still hope that you have had a pleasant stay at a different place in Delft. Your review will be discussed in the team so this kind of issues can be prevented in the future. “Very Comfortable Room”

We selected this hotel based on the advice of a local Dutch friend and we were not disappointed. My wife and I stayed here for two nights and slept well in our quiet comfortable room on the North side of 6th floor away from the road. Although our room was spacious, it had no refrigerator. However, it does now have Wi-Fi in the rooms in addition to cabled Ethernet access. The breakfasts were plentiful and tasted good. The room A/C worked well. The location is extremely convenient for visiting the old historic part of Delft which is only a 5-10 minute walk away. The only downside is the lack of on-site guest parking in the very large parking lot which the hotel management has chosen to dedicate to tour buses which were seldom seen. I feel that is disrespectful of guests.
