You can take a canal cruise, hire your own boat to cruise through the city or be really sporty and hire a canal bike - fantastic fun! Other activities include:

Rembrandthuis Museum on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Dutch Master Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. A little further way you can find the Anne Frank House. You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs for those back home at the floating flower market on Singel. You’ll find vintage clothing and curiosities on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

The covered TunFun play park is in a former car tunnel. Children from 0 to 12 can tire themselves out here, climbing, running, sliding and jumping. Older children can meet their heros at Madame Tussauds on the Dam. For young scientists, there’s the NEMO Science Center, with five floors full of scientific and technological things to do and discover.

“An excellent experience”

An excellent stay in Hampshire Hotel-Eden -Location: close to everywhere! -Service: high-quality, particularly the breakfast (totally worth of 15 euros) -Room: it would be better if I got a room with better sunshine, but nothing to complain about given the reasonable price.

“Shocking! Don't stay!”

Upon arrival I had booked a double room. It was a twin pushed together. When I complained the staff looked embarrassed as if this was a regular and awkward situation. They only have limited double beds so beware if you book a double. Also the two beds were of different softness so even if you rolled over from one to another it sank and then you couldn't turn over cod you were lower. Then I needed an iron - the phone has no guidance on it as to how to reach reception so had to go to the foyer! Which takes ages cos the lift is old and is the slowest I have ever been in. There were no irons available and I was told I would just have to walt. It took an age to get an iron and I ended up having to use the hairdryer to "steam" my shirt. When the iron arrived after I needed it the plug was broken and would no fit in the plug. On the first morning there I left the room only to return later that night to find the bins had not been emptied, the bath mat was still wet on the floor and at first I thought they had forgotten to clean my room cod the bed has just been smoothed over not made. However, I noticed ha there was a new pile of towels on the bed so someone had "cleaned" the room. The duty manager was not very helpful in offering any compensation but did offer to have the room cleaned and on pushing said, I can have a drink in the bar... All in all the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Their sister hotel "The Hampshire" was equally as bad apparently as my friends stayed there and they had single rooms that they could hardly wheel their bag in to... DON't stay!!!

“Would I wisit this hotel again? No.”

I know that the Netherlands is a modern country but there is really no need to be rude to the guests from other countries with that arrogant attitude: “Oh, you are from that country!” – so you have no idea how to use a credit card to pay the deposit. I travel a lot and I’ve never in my life experienced such an unprofessional and ignorant behaviour at a reception desk toward me as a paying guest. This is really “no go” in the hotel business. The receptionists are badly trained. The room was dirty, especially the carpets, the walls and the armchair with big white and brown (probably coffee) stains. The room had a just a small narrow window with a view to the brick wall. So, would I visit this hotel again? NO. The location of this hotel is good. The walking distance to the sightseeing’s is perfect but for the money you pay in this hotel you can get a better one.

“worst hotel”

Our experience started off by the gentlemen at reception telling us half way through checking in that we had to move around the counter because it was uncomfortable for his back ! Room was tiny! Shower even smaller ,couldnt even open the shower door as it hit the toilet .Room wasnt cleaned when house keeping was done only beds made toilet paper and tissues not replaced .Mould in the shower was certainly a very big turn off .Couldnt be bothered complaining as the arrogance from day one was a very big indication of what response we would get ! Could hear everything going on in the rooms next door !

Have stayed at this comfortable friendly hotel many times over the last 15yrs I think the fact that I keep coming back says it all. Situated at the Rembrandtplein, the area offers a great choice of restaurants and bars.
