Get out on the water with a canal cruise

Hampshire Hotel - Eden Amsterdam is situated in the centre of the city of Amsterdam, on the famous Amstel river. What could be nicer than taking a trip on the Amstel? You can take a canal cruise, hire your own boat to cruise through the city or be really sporty and hire a canal bike - fantastic fun! Other activities include:

Rembrandthuis Museum on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Dutch Master Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. A little further way you can find the Anne Frank House. Here you can experience how life must have been for the Frank family in hiding. Photography fans should certainly visit the changing exhibitions at Foam photography museum on Keizersgracht. There’s a World Press Photo exhibition in the Oude Kerk every year. Hermitage Amsterdam presents  various exhibitions from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia.

The historic inner city has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list since 2010. The best way to view the heart of the city is the Amsterdam way: by bicycle. You can hire one at the hotel.

You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs for those back home at the floating flower market on Singel. You’ll find vintage clothing and curiosities on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

The covered TunFun play park is in a former car tunnel. Children from 0 to 12 can tire themselves out here, climbing, running, sliding and jumping. Older children can meet their heros at Madame Tussauds on the Dam. For young scientists, there’s the NEMO Science Center, with five floors full of scientific and technological things to do and discover.

“Great hotel in fabulous location!”

Just returned from a great weekend break in Amsterdam. The hotel was perfect for what we needed, lovely clean room, helpful, polite and friendly staff, great breakfast and location in the middle of the city meant we were able to walk easily to every part of the city. Would definitely come back to this hotel in the future - sure we had a canal side room without a canal view and the hairdryer was rubbish but absolutely perfect for what we needed - besides you don't go on a city break to sit in your hotel all day!

“Central Hotel, Clean, Friendly, Small Rooms”

Best thing about this Hotel is its location, there are two doors one to the front and back and each gives you access to different parts of the city. Hotel was expensive but considering location worked out good value for money. Did not choose breakfast option as out the back door leads you to lots of nice local eateries and a starbucks which I prefer over hotel food as you feel the local experience a lot more. Room was small but bed comfortable, room warm, bathroom spotless clean. Did not hear any noises not even anyone passing our room on the corridor so perfect nights sleep. Staff friendly and helpful. Security great as you need keycard to access stairs/lift. Porter on duty and access to purchase local attractions tickets from reception. Only reason for 3 star was atmosphere stayed in one evening to hotel bar and not much atmosphere, also no other facilities available in hotel that would help enhance your stay and allow you to relax in the comfort of the hotel at night. Best Tip Location, Cleanness, Perfect nights sleep, Worst attribute, dont bother with hotel bar no atmosphere.

“If a hotel can't get the bedding right, they are doing something wrong!”

Stayed there for 4 nights this week. Because the hotel is a combination of 2, there are 2 separate reception areas. Both reception desks are a long way into the hotel &, on the Hampshire side, you can go for days without seeing any of the staff. So - no personal touch there, it's all a bit remote. The hotel is right in the centre of the city, so easy to get to everything, but Amsterdam is a party town, so expect a lot of noise for most of the night. We were given a corner room, so had a glimpse of Rembrandtplein just down the road and lots of windows - which was lucky as the room lighting was appalling. On our first night we discovered that the bottom sheet did not fit the bed. It was tucked in top & bottom, but did not get close to reaching down the sides of the mattress. I called reception who sent up someone who handed me a new sheet - presumably so I could make the bed myself. Not impressed & invited them in to make it for me. When they discovered that the new sheet was the same size & did not fit either, they made the bed up with both sheets laid across the bed, top and bottom, to make a 2 part bottom sheet. And that's the way it stayed made for our 4 days. And when I say 'made' I use the term loosely. The bed appeared to be mostly thrown together each day, with little attempt made to smooth out the bottom sheet. Some of the sloppiest housekeeping I have ever seen. I've travelled a lot and stayed in dozens of hotels and have NEVER come across one that didn't have linen to fit the bed. Really guys - this was not a cheap stay and surely bedding is one of the basics of hotel hospitality? We made our booking through and were supposed to get a bathroom with a separate tub & a rainfall showerhead. What we got instead was a hand-held shower over the slipperiest bathtub I have ever used - very risky getting out of it. This hotel is certainly not in the budget category and I expected better. Massive fail.

“Three nights in Amsterdam”

The room was a basic hotel rm the view of the inner courtyard and duck work was stunning The mold on the bathroom floor was also an added bonus the overly expensive breakfast and lack of a coffee shop were equally appealing
