Beautiful at every time of the year

The surroundings of Hampshire Hotel - Landgoed Stakenberg are unique and completely stunning. Whatever time of year you arrive, there is always more than enough beauty to enjoy. Forests, heathland, fens, lateral moraines, a pair of red deer, roes, butterflies and bramble flowers. But there's lots more to do:

Relaxation
For a hundred percent relaxation you should visit Veluwse Bron wellness centre in Emst. Here you can enjoy saunas, pools and various treatments and massages.

Children
De Spelerij in Dieren is the most wonderful play and discovery place in the Netherlands. Children can make and play endlessly with works of art in this atelier from artist Jos Spanbroek. Amusementspark Tivoli is an extremely accessible theme park in Berg en Dal with around twenty attractions. Suitable for children from 2 years. In Klimbos in Ermelo the kids can enjoy playing outside, experiencing adventures and swinging from tree to tree.

Family
Great for the whole family are Apenheul with its free-roaming monkeys, and Familiepretpark Koningin Juliana Toren. Both are in Apeldoorn.

Countryside
From May to November, hotel guests can make weekly walks with foresters Ko en Corinne, who are both world famous on the Veluwe. These walks take around an hour and a half and go through the Leuvenumse forests and over Elspeter heathland.

Golf
The compact golf course with distances between 30 and 70 metres at Pitch&Putt Strand Horst is also very suitable for people who have never played golf. For the advanced golfer, it’s a nice course to practise short shots.

Culinary enjoyment

Restaurant Grand Café de Stakenberg
Hotel guests can enjoy an extensive breakfast here every morning. It’s also the place for a delicious lunch and dinner. The kitchen of this agreeable, Veluwe-styled restaurant is managed by Harold Vermeulen. This Head Chef works exclusively with fresh produce and uses ingredients from the local area as much as possible. He obtains bread, for instance, from Puur Veluws baker, and the meat is from Ouwendorperhoeve.

Engelse Pub ’t Vossenhol
In Hampshire Hotel – Landgoed Stakenberg there’s a real English pub. You can enjoy drinks here with or without appetisers. In the summer you can enjoy sitting outside on the terrace with your drink. And in the winter months, you can join in the exciting and always friendly pub quiz. Or you can read a magazine or newspaper quietly by the crackling open fire.

“Ordinary somewhat dated hotel”

Although the location is beautiful, the hotel's look and feel are somewhat outdated. The rooms aren't sound isolated and thus less private. Breakfast was too simple for a Hampshire brand. Overall we didn't feel we got value for our money.

“Nice hotel in the woods”

The hotel itselt is very nice but you have to consider if you wish to stay here. The hotel is located in the woods in a cosy location. Its about 15 mins driving to Harderwijk, the next larger town. At the hotel is a restaurant which closes 8 pm. Since we arrived be 820 pm it was closed for us. The rooms are ok, fancy, clean. E-bikes can be rented and charged at the hotel for 25 Euro/day. Parking is free. Wifi is free but not fast. Breakfast is served from 8 am to 10 am, which was too late for us and we could not try. I would say when you are on vacation this is a nice cosy place; for business when you typically arrive later and leave early this hotel is not for you. In our package breakfast was not included so we missed nothing.

“Wonderfull stay”

Nice hotel in the middel of mixed forests. We stayed with a whole family and were welcomed warm. Rooms and beds are not luxurious but Nice and comfortable. Food in the restaurant is ok. The most special feature of the whole place is the service in the restaurant provided by a guy called Geert: he is the most wonderful host: kind, welcoming, warm and very funny; our dinners were twice as good because of his service!!! Wish the world was full of people like him. Surroundings of the hotel are beautiful with stunning forests and wildlife if you are willing to get. up At dawn or make trips At night S

“A few small points”

A very attractive hotel surrounded by woods and greenery. The main building of this Hampshire hotel has a sort of castle touch. The new extension if not very exciting is at any rate reasonably comfortable; if only they would have windows that you can really open and not just tilt. Also the wash basin in the bedroom and not in the bathroom is a negative point. The evening meal was very reasonably priced and beautifully cooked and presented. Our waiter was absolutely first class. The breakfast buffet was well stocked but as there were many guests, things ran out often and quickly. The waitress who was busy trying to keep up with the appetites of so many hungry breakfasters was very quick to sort out the bread and buns and replenish the baskets unfortunately using her bare hands which she then used to handle the money and credit cards of the paying guests. A training need!

“Avoid....”

If you like a hotel in the middle of nowhere (in the middle of the woods in this case) you will be delighted. Especially if you like spartan accomodation, decrepit bathrooms with no heating and a general feeling that the place is run as a hunting lodge. The entrace and common areas are quite pleasantly decorated but the bedrooms and especially the bathrooms are in desperate need of overhaul. Washbasin in the bedroom, toilet and shower in the unheated bathroom, a television set which predates this century, two single beds, made up as such but claiming to be a double. And when we arrived in our bedroom it was barely above freezing point. We had a set meal in the evening with about 40 other guests. The bread ran out during the first course. I didn't get the main course I had ordered. The food was bland at best. The hotel appears to pride itself for its cuisine but as the menu only appeared to exist in Dutch one can only assume they are catering for the local market and they rarely see visitors from overseas. The breakfast buffet was adequate if you like cold bacon and solidified scrambled eggs. The excellent coffee machine which had been freely available the previous evening was no longer switched on and so for breakfast the so-called coffee came from a large vat and had all the flavour, colour and consistency of strained socks. A previous reviewer has already pointed out the lunar system of bar tabs and the need to settle the hotal bill and the bar bill in two different places. Perhaps they are actually separate businesses? Needless to say that when we wanted to check out the PC in the bar was down and we had to wait for them to fix it since both the waitress and the receptionist were adamant that I couldn't settle the bar bill at reception without a hint of an apology for making me wait. The younger elements of the staff were very pleasant and helpful which is more than can be said of the older ones. I am not normally someone to complain and can usually find something positive to say about most places. Words fail me on this occasion.
