Peace, space and relaxation

For peace, space and relaxation, at Hampshire Hotel – Newport Huizen you are at the right address. This is primarily because of the location: in the heart of the Gooi, right on the Gooimeer and close to Huizen marina. The ultimate backdrop for fanatic sailors and people who enjoy boating. So there's obviously going to be some sailing.

Walking and cycling
In the surroundings, there are many lovely routes, such as the 18 kilometre Huizen tour, the Gooilust route past estates and country homes in the Gooi and the Monument walk lasting around an hour.

Museum Singer Laren has an interesting art collection and various exhibitions. In the Nederlands Vestingmuseum in Naarden, you will learn all about the history of the fortified towns in the Netherlands, the city of Naarden and the Dutch Water Line. Oud-Zuilen is home to Slot Zuylen dating from 1520, the former residence of author Belle van Zuylen Another historic castle is Muiderslot, founded around 1285 by Floris V.

Famous in the Gooi is Theater Spant! in Bussum. This atmospheric theatre offers a wide-ranging programme: cabaret, musicals and plays. For a film evening, you can visit Filmhuis Bussum.

Fun for young and old is Coronel Kartracing in the Oude Haven of Huizen, right behind the hotel. In Speelbos ’t Laer, children aged between 4 and 14 can scramble, climb and generally have fun. For very young children, there is the petting farm, Kinderboerderij de Warande in Huizen.

There are lots of possibilities to play a round of golf in the vicinity. For example, Golfbaan Naarderbos on the Gooimeer with a challenging 18-hole Championship Course. Another option is the lovely Golfclub Almeerderhout, in its woodland setting, where you can choose from three nine-hole courses.

“Great place, but really needs renovation”

third September I have stayed here, and whilst it serves it's purpose, it really is very tired looking. There are still stains from previous guests on the carpets and upholstery, which is a great shame, because if this was sorted it would be a fantastic place. Breakfast is great, but the Newport 1852 is too posh for its own good, so we didn't eat there. Again, a great shame,

“Nice to stay”

I was here before and I had some small remarks. They told me they going to renovate and indeed they are. This time a very nice big room. More than enough space and comfortable. I do hope the next time it's a bit more cleaned. Other than that it was a pleasant stay. Staff is friendly and helpful. To eat in the restaurant you need to make a reservation. They had a booked a big group and than you need this reservation or wait till after 20.00 and that I couldn't. A bit awkward for hotel guests though. If you stay here you're very central in the Netherlands. From here you're fast in town and on the highway. Parking is for guests free. Enough restaurants in the neighborhood, go-cart and other things to do. It's also nice to rent a bike. .

“Not what I expected”

We booked a family suite as we had to be close to the hotel for a party ending late. Family members also booked rooms separate and these were put on my name as well. A lot of confusion already during the booking of the room. The check-in was confusing due to the two rooms on my name. We did manage to obtain the key to the right room (a baby bed being the differentiator). Upon arrival in the room, our room turned out not to be prepared as is should (connecting doors between suite and second room were unopened). We tried to reach the reception, the phone turned out not to be functioning. Later more utilities turned out to be out of order (lights not functioning etc). The room was clean but clearly in dire need of some TLC. The sofa was stained from normal use. The bathroom had several loose and broken tiles, etc. While having a drink a coffee was served in stead of a cappuccino (because the coffee machine was broken). The poor quality of the coffee was clearly visible; the broken machine was unable to produce a decent coffee. A coffee machine can break down, very unfortunate, just don't serve the coffee in that case. We did complain about the poor price to quality ratio and were refunded 50% of the room price. For me this was a decent solution. Still I will avoid this hotel in future if nothing changes. The staff was friendly and did try to make our stay comfortable. In my opinion the problem is in the focus on quality throughout the entire organisation and a lack of investments in the rooms to keep them at an acceptable quality level. The club at the waterfront was very good and is a place I will not avoid.

“Could be nice”

Great size suite and fantastic having kitchen but only 2 cups despite booking for 4. There is a selection of plates and but no cutlery. Despite having hob, nothing to cook in. The Furniture was dirty and covered in felt pen, the bedspreads were stained. The bedrooms only have bedside lights and in one room these were not working properly, one not at all and the other intermittently with dodgy switch. Only double beds so not good for family with teenagers. Good location although bikes would have been useful. These cannot be reserved on arrival and you can only reserve two through the booking form, so plan ahead. Disappointed as was expecting amazing views over the beautiful Gooimeer but we got ground floor suite with view of carpark. Overall not bad but could be better.

Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your review. I will forward your message to the Housekeeping department. We do rent bicycles in the hotel, but probably they were all hired. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Nevertheless, we hope to welcome you again. Kind regards, Kiki Winnik, reservations.
