Charming hotel in villa area close to the centre

The three-star Hampshire Hotel - Parkzicht Eindhoven is situated very centrally. It’s in a beautiful villa area, with a view across the Stadswandelpark, and yet is close to the centre; ideal for visitors to the High-Tech Campus, Brainport Eindhoven and other dynamic areas in Eindhoven. But it’s also perfect for those who want to enjoy shopping in the city or walking in one of the many parks and on the Strabrechtse Heide.

If you think about Eindhoven, Philips and PSV quickly spring to mind. But the city has much more to offer, including interesting museums within walking distance of Hampshire Hotel - Parkzicht Eindhoven. Van Abbenmuseum for example, has an imposing collection of contemporary art, with works from such artists as Picasso, Kandinsky and Chagall. The DAF Museum is located on the site where DAF activities started in 1928. And the Designhuis on Stadhuisplein has fascinating expositions about design.

Discover Eindhoven, city of light

There are so many great shops in Eindhoven that a long city walk is highly recommended. You should certainly visit the Piet Hein Eek shop and other great design shops at Strijp-S, the unique specialist shops on Kleine Berg, Grote Berg and Bergstraat and large shopping streets including Demer, Rechtestraat and Vrijstraat. Other tips in and around the city:

Museums
In Eindhoven Museum you can get to know the inhabitants of an iron age village as they carry out their handicrafts in historic clothing. Van Abbemuseum is one of the leading museums for contemporary art in Europe.

Walks
You can take beautiful walks in the Genneper Parks, choosing from the Boerenlandroute (2.2 km), the Beekdalroute (6 km) and the Cultuurhistorische route (7 km). Beautiful walking and cycling routes can also be found on the Strabrechtse Heide, a natural area of some 1500 hectares.

Children
Familiepark Aquabest in Best has great, fun and exiting attractions for children up to 13 years. At the Ontdekfabriek in Eindhoven (Strijp-S), children are challenged to get building, designing and experimenting in an old factory. The Nationaal Zwemcentrum de Tongelreep is close to the hotel. As the largest swimming centre in Europe it’s a true swimmers’ paradise.

Theatre
The Stadsschouwburg Eindhoven is directly opposite the hotel. There’s something for everyone in each season’s vast programme of performances: cabaret, opera, theatre and ballet.

Golf
In and around Eindhoven there are lots of golfing opportunities. Here are some of the clubs in the surrounding area: Golfclub Welschap, Golfclub Riel, Golfclub de Gulbergen and Best Golf & Country Club.

Restaurant Parkzicht

In the hotel’s breakfast room the day begins with a complete breakfast, including fresh croissants, bread rolls and Prosecco. For lunch and dinner you can visit the stylish Parkzicht restaurant with its menu composed exclusively of French classics. Here is a small preview some of the beautiful dishes: salade Niçoise with fresh tuna, French onion soup with Gruyère and croutons, bisque d’homard with crayfish, duck breast with apple, honey, thyme syrup and baked chicory, and Parkzicht bouillabaisse with cod, seafood and seasonable vegetables.

For groups of eight people or more it’s possible to compose a special menu. And for special events, such as Christmas, the restaurant serves a festive five-course dinner, full of culinary surprises.

“Pleasant location IF one has time to take advantage of the park across the road!”

The hotel is over-priced for what it offers, especially in comparison with other hotels in the same price range. Room: bathroom was functional, the sliding doors of the shower cubicle were cheap and flimsy. There was a very nasty-looking large stain on the carpet in front of the bathroom door, so large not to go unnoticed every time you passed it. The mattresses were too soft, the pillow stuffing felt like cheap, stiff foam and the heating that came from a vent in the ceiling was of no use. So much so I had to use both duvets. There was no extra blanket in the closet, which is normal nowadays. So it was a chilly night. Breakfast buffet: simple and functional, just like the room. In fact, as none of what was assembled looked tempting or even interesting, I put together a breakfast of rusks and 2 boiled eggs. Was actually relieved for not being tempted to run back to the buffet for seconds, as is usually the case. So, breakfast buffet is perfect for figure conscious guests ;0) Summary: A no-fuss, and to some extent primitive hotel, which sadly with more incentive and imagination and money invested could be a great retreat because the location is so nice.

“In need of better modernisation”

My first stay at this establishment was 55 years ago in 1960 on my first visit to Philips Eindhoven when it was still an old fashioned lovely sleepy city with few cars and bicycles everywhere. .In those days hotel costs were low and there was only one other more expensive hotel in Einhoven the Hotel Cocagne which although having many changes of management I have stayed at many times over the years. However last week as my usual hotel near the HTC was full I opted to try the Parkzicht for one night to bring back old memories That was a bad decision because my stay was not good . The only heating in the bedroom was from a blower in the ceiling which failed to deliver any warm air after midnight resulting in a very cold night for me. . There was no radiator or other heating in the shower room which was a poor substitute for a proper bathroom with bathtub found in most other modern hotels. Next morning the hot breakfast options of scrambled egg , bacon and sausages were all luke warm Overall this gave a bad impression . Whilst some modernisation had taken place since my last stay 55 years back it only appeared to be minimal . Most important is the absence of proper handrails on BOTH sides of the original steep staircase which has to be used because there is no elevator. Potentially dangerous for older guests without assistance . There are better more modern hotels in Eindhoven at reasonable prices . Only attraction of the Parkzicht is its location opposite the Park and free street car parking in front of the hotel

“Postcard experience”

This was my first time in Eindhoven, and I was on a business trip. The rooms are not large, but they are comfortably cozy. The customer service is not over-the-top but just right. I loved how the hotel arranged for a nice little post-card to welcome my stay. The Park next to the hotel is right out of a postcard--it really is. The aesthetic and natural beauty of nature is just across the road! Accessibility to public transport, proximity to the central station, and in the heart of vintage structures including the Theater, the museum, and the park... I would recommend The Hampshire as a perfect retreat at the end of a long working day... Thank you for a pleasant first-experience to Eindhoven, Hampshire :)

“Good location”

Nice restaurant, friendly staff, simple but clean and quiet rooms. Not very far from down-town, close to parks and the medieval village. Room rate was good, breakfast was OK but not great for the price.

“Comfortable, clean and quiet”

I stayed at the Hampshire Hotel Parkzicht Eindhoven for two nights during September, 2014. I was in the area on business. I chose the hotel because of the nearby parks, rather than because it was convenient to Flight Forum for work. When I arrived quite late at night for check in I received a warm welcome and a good overview of the hotel amenities. I was offered assistance with my luggage and I was wished a pleasant stay. The room was on the first floor (104) at the end of a corridor and although the view onto the bike shed was nothing to write home about I was very grateful for the relative absence of road noise or noise from other guests. The room itself was spacious and clean and there was a little note addressed to me, welcoming me to the hotel and providing additional information. The bed was very comfortable and I enjoyed two nights of sound sleep. There is a coffee pod machine and a kettle and a selection of tea bags, a small desk area, wardrobe, and television. The en-suite offered a shower, single basin, WC, plenty of space to place personal toiletries and a high shelf to keep fresh towels dry. The en-suite was compact but well thought out to provide sufficient room. Basic toiletries are provided. Housekeeping was very good. The free wifi was reliable and fast enough. Breakfast was maybe a little limited in choice, I would have preferred a wider selection of fresh fruits but it was typically Dutch with an emphasis on breads, cheese and cold meats. I enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant; the appetiser and amuse bouche were tasty little extras, the menu choice was good and special diets are catered for. All staff were friendly, welcoming and professional and I would stay here again if I am back in Eindhoven.
