Numerous possibilities for a great day out in Amsterdam.

Location, location, location. No problems in that respect at Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square. Near the hotel, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a day out in Amsterdam: museums, exhibitions, historic sites, theatres and kids activities. A few suggestions:

Theatre and film
Anyone who loves art and cabaret will study the programme of De Kleine Komedie, the oldest theatre in Amsterdam (1786). Koninklijk Theater Carré is certainly worth a visit, if only to view the interior of this beautiful theatre. Pathé Tuschinski cinema is another lovely historic building. All the big blockbusters can be viewed here on the big screen.

Museums
The Hermitage Amsterdam presents various exhibitions from the collection from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia. Museum Het Rembrandthuis on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. You will regularly find interesting exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam. Fans of photography should certainly visit the FOAM Photography Museum on the Keizersgracht.

Market
You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs on the floating flower market on Singel. There is a famous flea market on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

Children
Sailing through the canals is fun for young and old alike. Step onto a tour boat, rent a boat or take the whole family on a pedalo. Young scientists make exciting discoveries at the Science Centre NEMO. A visit to the fantastic Artis zoo is a joy for everyone. One of the highlights of the oldest zoo in the Netherlands are the tropical fish in the huge Aquarium.

“Young couple short break”

Hotel is clean and safe with decent size bedrooms and modern bathroom. Friendly staff. 1 English Channel. Free wifi is very poor. Restaurant menu caters for fine dining rather than snacks. Hotel backs onto Rembrandt square and front faces the canal so ask for front room if possible for nice views. Soundproofed rooms and heavy curtains make it great after a heavy night. Location is perfect! Surrounded by coffee shops pubs clubs and food places line the streets and only 5min walk to red light.

“Great stay and great value”

Booked for one night recently. Hotel is about 15 mins walk from central station just off Rembrandt square. Check in was easy and we were allocated our room even though it was only lunch time and check in is 3. The room was on the 3rd floor facing the street but very little noise, only passing trams. Room clean and modern although slightly on the small side. Ice machine on the landing which was useful. Mini bar in room well stocked. 6 euros for a wine and 2 euros for a bottle of water. Tea and coffee but no milk which wasn't an issue as we had taken some small sachets with us. Bed comfortable but only one pillow each which was easily resolved with reception. We hacked out at 12 and the concierge stored our luggage for the rest of the day. Rembrandt square is lovely and much nicer than other areas in central amsterdam. Overall a good hotel and great value for money. I would recommend and would definitely stay again at this hotel.

“Have to read it before u book!!!”

It's a nice hotel, good location, awful staff!! I know it's a lot to read but u really should befor u book!!!!! I went to Amsterdam with a friend for my 22 birthday. Worked hard so we could really have fun. In the first night we put all of our money in the safe, in the morning we took some money out for the day and left the hotel. When we come back and got ready to go celebrate we found out ALL of our money is gone!! 800 €. I went to the reception desk and asked for the manger, who was on a vacation (I don't think that's true). one of the night manger came to me and I told her all about what happen. She was not that exited to help or shock to hear. She said the cleaning staff or the house manger is not here so she can't do nothing at the moment and I need to wait for the morning. She come to cheak who got in the room and she said that only one person got in is the cleaning man. She cheaked the camera also. At the day after I went to hear what's new, but then she ״rememberd" the cleaning man is on a day off (just sitting at home enjoying my money with out no one even calling him) and the house manger won't be at the hotel until Monday, just by coincidence the day I'm suppose to cheak out. So she only talked to the house manger on the phone and thats the only thing she can do. The day after the staff member got back to work like nothing happend. No one in the hotel was very helpful or worried about the situation. I went to the police to do the report but that's not very helpfull when u have NO money for thw days I got left. On Monday noon I went to the reception and the manger was still not at the hotel, how come the house manger was and the cleaning man. But the haven't talked yet. By that point my patience was over! So she sent the "assistants manger". Some how he told me that they did talk to the cleaning man and he said he didn't do thing, of courses, but in the camera he was the only one who got in. So they are not going to do nothing about it. When i asked if his still cleaning other rooms he told me ״don't even go there״, like I was the one to blame. So with out checking more he just kept on working. I've never though this is the way things like that got done. In Israel a thing like that would never happen. I can leave the money on the desk with out no one taking it. But i guess the staff are not afraid to take things because noting will happen. I can't say or decide he for sure took it but I know the money I worked for is gone and my birthday trip was ruined.

Dear Maycohen, We very much regret you had this experience. Be assured that we take these kind of accusations very serious. Our staff did assist you by viewing key logs and taking the appropriate action needed. Due to the fact that your money was stored in a locked safe of which only you had access with a personalized code we cannot hold your claim for a fact, but we do take it very seriously. Even the police department supported this point of view. Yours Sincerely, R. Stolk

“Luxury suite for a great price ”

I booked this break through a broker online. Think pink. I chose a junior suite as wanted a little more space as was traveling with my 19 year old daughter. We had taken the number 9 tram from Centraal Station (4 also serves Rembrandt Square). Once found our bearings, located the hotel & entered through revolving doors. Followed directions to the reception. This was on the Eden side (one side is Hampshire, modern & other is Eden, period), checked in with no problem, only had to email our booking for finalisation. Proceeded to our room, a junior suite on the first floor. Corner room with lovely tall ceilings, light & brilliant views on to Rembrandt Square. Deposit of €50 taken on hold on my credit card, this is mainly for the mini-bar. Free tea & coffee facilities, but no milk. I bought some from the local BK approx 3 minutes away. I would advise purchasing tea-bags before arrival (bought mine from Gatwick, F&M) as there are only two left. Wonderful facilities in the bathroom. Rain head shower, bath & complimentary toiletries if you forget your own. In the suite, gowns & slippers are also supplied. Aircon/heating is simple to use. The only gripe I did have was the nonchalance of our chamber-maid. We left our room for almost two hours on Wednesday morning, the cleaning trolley was a couple of feet from our room. We went out & on our return, discovered the "master key" in the light slot, but no cleaning had been done. The chamber maid then said that she did not have time to clean our room fully as she had to leave. She quickly emptied our bin & changed the towels. Our sheets did not get changed through the duration of our stay. I knew this as fact as I had accidentally dropped a tiny flake of chocolate on my sheet & it had smudged on my attempt at removal. Even though our beds were made on Tuesday, the sheet was the same. The stay was brilliant & the luggage hold was a life-saver as our flight wasn't until late evening & check out was midday. I will return to this hotel as it is central to a tourists' needs & a lovely base to call home. Noise also wasn't an issue as we stayed Mon-Thu & the trams stopped just after midnight. Anyway, just take earplugs if you're a light sleeper.

“Great location”

First off, I booked this hotel through a third party site and got a good deal, roughly £80 per night including breakfast. We stayed for two nights in march. The first impressions of this hotel aren't wow. The entrance is a revolving door straight off the street. As others have stated the hotel is two hotels rolled into one, one being the Rembrandt and one being the Eden. They share a reception and concierge. But the rooms are in opposite directions. As one is a 4 star and the other a 3 star I assume the rooms are better in the Rembrandt. The Location of the hotel is fantastic and right in the middle of Amsterdam and you could walk to most areas as we did. From Central Station take the number 4 or 9 tram which brings you to the square where the hotel is, we did this as we didn't want to walk with our cases. The communal areas are clean and tidy with a few scuff marks on the walls. The lifts worked perfectly. The room, we were at the front of the hotel on the third floor. Our room was of the standard format where you have an entrance with the bathroom off, then the main bedroom. It was modern in its appearance and clean. The bed was a very big kingsize and was very comfortable with clean sheets. There was everything you need including tea and coffee facilities, LCD TV, desk and chair, wardrobe and storage. The room size wasn't massive but I have stayed in far smaller places in Amsterdam. My brothers room had a smaller double bed then mine, don't know why. The bathroom was again a standard layout with WC, wash hand basin and bath with shower over. There where nice clean towels and a hairdryer. The hotel does provide toiletries. I can confirm that the toilet door is made of glass which is frosted in the right places but doesn't lock or shut to a door jamb. The door faced the hallway so those in the bedroom cant see you but because there is no door jamb there is no noise insulation. This didn't bother my wife and I but could put off some people, you have to be comfortable with each other I guess. For the cleaning freaks, I didn't look under the bed, but the sheets and towels were clean and not threadbare. There was one spot of mould on the bathroom sealant. The cleaner came in and did a good job, emptying bins and refreshing the towels etc. Breakfast, for warm breakfast there is bacon, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, small sausages and toast. There is also fruit, croissants, pastries, cereals, cold meats and various spreads etc. There is also hot drinks and various fruit juices. If breakfast isn't included in your stay you can purchase it for 15 euros when you check in. That seems dear but if you go to a café outside they will charge 11/13 euro without a drink so if you like a few coffees or juices to get you going then the hotel breakfast might be the best call as you can drink as much as you like, remember a coffee in Amsterdam will cost you about 2.5 euros each. All the staff we dealt with were helpful and professional and the concierge was really helpful and informative, if you want to know anything about Amsterdam then ask him, he was great. Things to remember, The hotel charges you 50 euros deposit when you check in, you can put it on a card. The hotel will charge you a City Tax (I think 5% of your room cost but not 100% sure) The hotel will store your cases if you have an early arrival flight or a late departure flight The tram and square are at the front of the hotel and can be noisy. Ask for back rooms. Amsterdam is a capital city and is not a cheap place. Think London prices. Would I stay here again? yes I would if I could get the same deal as this time. If you need to ask anything then please ask me.
