Numerous possibilities for a great day out in Amsterdam.

Location, location, location. No problems in that respect at Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square. Near the hotel, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a day out in Amsterdam: museums, exhibitions, historic sites, theatres and kids activities. A few suggestions:

Theatre and film
Anyone who loves art and cabaret will study the programme of De Kleine Komedie, the oldest theatre in Amsterdam (1786). Koninklijk Theater Carré is certainly worth a visit, if only to view the interior of this beautiful theatre. Pathé Tuschinski cinema is another lovely historic building. All the big blockbusters can be viewed here on the big screen.

The Hermitage Amsterdam presents various exhibitions from the collection from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia. Museum Het Rembrandthuis on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. You will regularly find interesting exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam. Fans of photography should certainly visit the FOAM Photography Museum on the Keizersgracht.

You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs on the floating flower market on Singel. There is a famous flea market on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

Sailing through the canals is fun for young and old alike. Step onto a tour boat, rent a boat or take the whole family on a pedalo. Young scientists make exciting discoveries at the Science Centre NEMO. A visit to the fantastic Artis zoo is a joy for everyone. One of the highlights of the oldest zoo in the Netherlands are the tropical fish in the huge Aquarium.

“Terrible experience!”

I am a Brain Surgeon and my wife a Dermatologist, we went to Amsterdam for a Dermalogist Congress in October 2014 and we stayed in a Hampshire Hotel. In our first night in Netherlands, after a long a way I put 2 cells phone upon the desk and leave with some friends to hang out and have dinner, when we came back the cells phone are gonne. We enter in contact with the manager on duty, he checked the door and said that nobody get in. On the third day we left the room in the morning I came back in the afternoon I did some shop, after leave again the room I went to take more money that was hidden inside our bag with a locker, and 1000,00 euros and 300,00 reais are gone. I know that some people can said that looks weird, but watch on you tube how to open a bag with a pen. We did a Police report, came back to the hotel we talk with all the managers for many times, wasting our time for nothing. The conclusion for Hotel Managers was that we need to take care our things. There are many things to NOT go to Hampshire Hotel 1- You can be stolen, no cameras on the hall 2- If you have some trouble , the people that works there don't believe in you 3- You pay a big price that you don't receive back. The bed are 2 singles beds together, when you wake up in the morning there's a gap, sounds ridiculus 4- The mattress are so soft that in the other day you received a huge back pain! You can't go so further if you didn't find a bench to rest. 5- We changed our room, there's so much noise that cames everywhere, since bell's train and the others guest. It's NOT a Hotel 4 stars, try to find another!

“Good Hotel great location”

I took my husband here as a surprise for his 40th , we stayed here from Tuesday 7th Oct - 10 Oct. I was a wee bit worried about some of the comments that have been written here but I will give my honest one here. I had contacted the hotel prior to our visit as we had never been in Amsterdam and were both a bit worried on how to get to the hotel from the airport, they gave me a step by step from there to the hotel and it was so easy. So I thank them for that. The location of this hotel is just fantastic right in the heart of Rembrandt square and well worth the money. We were booked into our room by a very nice lady in reception once in the room we did notice the stains on the carpet that everyone seems to be complaining about and I do think this is something that the hotel needs to sort out as the rooms are great in every other aspect but the carpets are pretty grim looking. Our breakfast in the morning again there has been a few moans about this in other reviews but we both thought that the breakfast was gorgeous, all self service but a selection of plenty bread, jams, beautiful fresh meat and cheese's, also sausages, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs and crispy bacon plus all your cereals with fresh yogurt, fresh fruit and juices, also some lovely pastries so I'm not sure where the bad comments come on this as we loved breakfast. They also have a fully stocked fridge in your room that is charged for if you use anything in ther, we didn't but alcohol, sweets, juice and beer so if you are in need of a wee something then it is there for you. Our only small moan about here is that our room was made up on our second day but not on any of the other days, I think with this being a 4* this should be done on every day. Amsterdam itself is an amazing city and we thourghly enjoyed our stay although very expensive there are definatly a lot of sites to see. Would I recommend this hotel? Definately and if we where ever to return to Amsterdam then I would book this hotel in no doubt, just hope they renew their carpets :) Wendy & David

“So promising but......”

We booked up in July for a double room and a twin. So when we arrived on the 3rd of October to a very pleasant superbly located hotel we felt excited...check in was straightforward and a nice experience. We found our room and entered. ....a twin bed...surely they had given us my mams room...I rang we both had twins. I rang reception, they told me no mistake..I said I'm sorry but we booked a double for our romantic/sightseeing weekend. They told us that when you book you take a chance a double is not guaranteed!!!! Er I think you will find that is a load of twaddle I booked months ago when plenty of hotels including yourselves offered double rooms. ..I love my partner and im not about to start sleeping in separate beds!!! Well they didn't have a double but would if we wanted move us the next day. My partner went back down to reception to be told the same cock and bull story by a rather unpleasant lady who made us feel like we were being a nuisance. The next day we changed rooms...I secretly thought Ooooh they will do something nice for us...wrong....a double bed yes but a cramped room with a tiny windows and no air con...we like a cool room and this was boiling!! Next morning I got up to make a I went to fill the kettle a rank smell hit me...I looked inside and it looked like sick in the kettle. we went to reception again...they gave us a new clean kettle and the duty manager was informed! So on check out. ...we checked my mams room out first...This was ok...then ours...have you enjoyed your mention of room mention of kettle. we did! The look of suprise when we asked what they were going to say about kettle. ..."well it was changed and house keeping notified and it wasn't sick but soup!!"...thats all right then!!.nothing for our inconvenience not even a free upgrade or drink has led us to sorry won't be back or recommend a beautiful city with plenty of choices...give someone else your hard earned cash as these guys don't care!!

“Nice hotel, nice bar ”

Rooms and bathrooms are very clean and very well presented. There is a nice piano bar at night also downstairs. Didnt eat here so don't know about the food. Quite expensive but it is central amsterdam. There is a nice small cafe shop to the right of this hotel.

“Nice hotel, modern decor, great location”

Stayed here for one night and it was perfect for access to the city. Decor was clean and fresh and modern in the bathroom and bedroom. Only observation is that the rooms were a little on the small side,
