Numerous possibilities for a great day out in Amsterdam.

Location, location, location. No problems in that respect at Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square. Near the hotel, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a day out in Amsterdam: museums, exhibitions, historic sites, theatres and kids activities. A few suggestions:

Theatre and film
Anyone who loves art and cabaret will study the programme of De Kleine Komedie, the oldest theatre in Amsterdam (1786). Koninklijk Theater Carré is certainly worth a visit, if only to view the interior of this beautiful theatre. Pathé Tuschinski cinema is another lovely historic building. All the big blockbusters can be viewed here on the big screen.

The Hermitage Amsterdam presents various exhibitions from the collection from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia. Museum Het Rembrandthuis on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. You will regularly find interesting exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam. Fans of photography should certainly visit the FOAM Photography Museum on the Keizersgracht.

You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs on the floating flower market on Singel. There is a famous flea market on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

Sailing through the canals is fun for young and old alike. Step onto a tour boat, rent a boat or take the whole family on a pedalo. Young scientists make exciting discoveries at the Science Centre NEMO. A visit to the fantastic Artis zoo is a joy for everyone. One of the highlights of the oldest zoo in the Netherlands are the tropical fish in the huge Aquarium.

“Good hotel, Clean, comfortable, Professional and Great location”

Hard to say anything bad about this hotel. Staff were friendly, courteaous and very professional. Hotel room spacious and clean. Beds comfortable, there is a safe too for belongings. Shower is excellent, bathroom large and clean. Honestly, just a good hotel. Location is brilliant, very central close to everything. Free wi fi also. the bar is nice and mini bar not too expnsive. All positive. Also has air con which I found wasnt in other hotels of similar price in Amsterdam. The only negative, kind of ties in with its main positive - the location is excellent but I was there on business and the noise from outside ont he square right through to the early morning was quite loud at times. I think there was a car race or something going on at about 4am becasuse they was an engine revving for an hour or so at that time. But not a lot the hotel can do about this, It just so happened my room was facing toward the square and some idiot liked revving his engine!! Anyway, all in all, would recomend this hotel if going to Amsterdam - it has everything you need and is in a central location. I have stayed in the NH Schiller very close by and this hotel is far better.

“Maximum worth 2 Star”

Have spent 4 days for business and 2 for leisure in the hotel. The hotel gives an unclean and delapidated impression. Absolutely not worth 4 stars. Carpets in and outside the room are very dirty, bad smell in the hotel, doors and walls are in a miserable condition, my bed was full of dirty spots, the bathroom was not very clean. Some colleagues complained about very small rooms. (for the same price) The shower didn't work properly and I asked on the second day to fix it, this has never been done. One day when coming back at 3 in the afternoon to change, the room was still not made and an unfriendly man urged me to get out of the room because he needed to clean it just then. The shower however has not been cleaned. Before leaving on Sunday about 1 pm, I wanted to go to the toilets in the reception area. There was neither soap nor toiletpaper. I suppose that the toilets must not have been cleaned since the day before. Breakfast was terribly stressing as there were too many poeple in the hotel compared to the size of the breakfast room. At peak time it's difficult to get a seat and if you get one you are nearly sitting on your neighbour. Apart from the cleaning man, the staff is friendly but as they seem short of staff they cannot give an adequate service. Absolutely not recommendable! 2 star maximum.

“Convenient location, friencly staff, good value.”

Stayed in a small 1 bed room. Remembered my travels by the "Pullman" train in Mexico. Bathroom is good size tending to big. Will definetrly consider staying there again. Facility is at the Rembrandt square which is full of bars and may be bothersome in the nights, if you want to sleep, but really convenient if you want to go to clubs or bars.

“Fantastic Hotel and Brilliant Location”

We are just back from a 3 night stay for the Amsterdam Marathon at the Hampshire Hotel. The hotel is in an amazing location - next to the buzzing Rembrandt Square - ideal for exploring all the main areas of the city easily on foot, by tram or the excellent metro system. Close to the waterways, restaurants, shops, bars and clubs, this is an excellent hotel - very comfortable rooms, lovely bar and pleasant surroundings. There is no pool but who needs it when there is so much to see. Easy to reach by train and tram/metro from Schipol Airport. Really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend - will definitely return.

“A great location mixed experience”

The plus- great location near the square. Has an amazingly good fine dining restaurant called Flo. Comfortable bed and nice sized room. Close to trams and easy walk to everything you need to see The bad- patchy service staff. Have to carry our own bags. Housekeeping indifferent. Carpet badly stained and quite revolting Can be confusing as both Eden and Hampshire share the same core but exit on different streets on the same block
