The ideal starting point for a day visiting museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the Hermitage), wandering over Waterlooplein, cycling through the seventeenth century city centre, sailing through the canals, sitting at one of the pavement cafes on Rembrandtplein and visiting trendy local bars and clubs.

Numerous possibilities for a great day out in Amsterdam.

Location, location, location. No problems in that respect at Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square. Near the hotel, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a day out in Amsterdam: museums, exhibitions, historic sites, theatres and kids activities. A few suggestions:

Theatre and film
Anyone who loves art and cabaret will study the programme of De Kleine Komedie, the oldest theatre in Amsterdam (1786). Koninklijk Theater Carré is certainly worth a visit, if only to view the interior of this beautiful theatre. Pathé Tuschinski cinema is another lovely historic building. All the big blockbusters can be viewed here on the big screen.

Museums
The Hermitage Amsterdam presents various exhibitions from the collection from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia. Museum Het Rembrandthuis on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. You will regularly find interesting exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam. Fans of photography should certainly visit the FOAM Photography Museum on the Keizersgracht.

Market
You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs on the floating flower market on Singel. There is a famous flea market on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

Children
Sailing through the canals is fun for young and old alike. Step onto a tour boat, rent a boat or take the whole family on a pedalo. Young scientists make exciting discoveries at the Science Centre NEMO. A visit to the fantastic Artis zoo is a joy for everyone. One of the highlights of the oldest zoo in the Netherlands are the tropical fish in the huge Aquarium.

“Nice central four star hotel”

The room was great as well as the location. Breakfast was very good however there are a lot of places to eat out if you wish to do so, there is a café just down the street. Would definetly consider returning to this hotel, nice staff very serviceminded

“Would not stay here or recommend”

Overpriced and overrated for what you get. Our room was dingy, uneven flooring, the bathroom tub was rusted and the mattress was completely worn out. Front desk staff were also not helpful and mixed up our reservation and our final bill was much higher than booking.com indicated.

“Double room (non-smoking)”

I got double room for 1 night, it was nice, clean and fresh, with excellent bathroom, small balcony is what you need in hot summer. My mistake that I didn't notice it is non-smoking hotel, but just close to it you can find a nice coffeeshop named Old Amsterdam in case you want to explore that side of Amsterdam))

“Clean and comfy”

Pleasant and helpful staff all round from front desk to room cleaning staff, clean and comfy rooms. We found it very well situated for public transport, walking to good restaurants and sight seeing. Breakfast is extra but its a lot cheaper to go out to a local restaurant or walk up the road to get fresh hot croissants and coffee! Although the local night life carries on until 5am, our room was quiet and we were not disturbed by it at all.

“4 Star? Not Really, But Extremely Close”

4 Star? No, But Extremely Close PROS The room was trendy, modern, immaculate and nicely decorated. It had three very large windows and a nice Flat Screen TV.  The bathroom was the best I've seen at a 4 Star hotel. The water pressure was great as was the toiletries.  The furniture looked new and the Mini Fridge was well stacked. All of the lamps worked which is a rarity at most hotels. The Bed was large, comfortable and beautiful;  linen and pillows excellent.  There was a mirror on the wardrobe door which was quite convenient. Late check-out was 1:00 PM, the latest I've had at a 4 Star hotel. CONS Lobby was clean and somewhat pretty, not my taste in decor but applicable to a 4 star hotel. The carpet in the Hallway leading up to the room needed some deep cleaning. The entire Room although beautiful was a bit dark with an overwhelming amount of brown hues. The very nice large windows had a Green trim which made the room appear darker. Didn't care for the particular shade of brown on the cabinet but it was a good blend of the masculin and feminine. The free Internet was only on one device and not particularly good.   There was no Robe or Facial Scrub in the bathroom.  The bathroom had very low lighting and was extremely dark not conducive for good make-up application.  The toilet seat was a bit high which might be appropriate for the average European hight but not for a 5'3 American.  Wish there were more towels in the bathroom since I don't like room service everyday but it was enough for one person.  Toilet paper strip was trendy and perhaps great for the environment but not entirely practical.  This was a very nice hotel; I would not hesitate to stay there again. Most of the cons in this review are decorative reflecting my personal preferences. The staff was friendly enough but the Receptionist Jaleesa was exceptional. She was very helpful and always had a smile on her face.  I stayed at this hotel March 18th - 23rd, 2015.  Forgot to write down the room number so not included in this review.
