Historic hotel in the centre of Zutphen

A weekend in Zutphen? Then Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen in the centre of the town is the ultimate location. In the hotel alone, history will be all around you, with seventeenth century architecture and paintings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. From the hotel, you walk through the winding streets and alleyways of the old town of Zutphen past attractions such as the Sint Walburgiskerk, the Berkelpoort and the many courtyards.

From Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen, there are some lovely cycle tours. Highlights are De Graafschap in the northwest of the Achterhoek region, the woodlands with their estates and castles and the Achterhoek tour. There is also plenty to attract gourmets to Zutphen. In and around the hotel, there are several high quality restaurants. Such as Brasserie 6 and restaurant Schulten Hues & Friends, an initiative of star chef Peter Gast.

The Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen is housed in the seventeenth century “Huize van Kasteele” building in the city centre. This is the ideal starting point for walks through the historic city centre, past merchant houses and warehouses from the Hanze era and picturesque courtyards. But there's lots more to do in Zutphen:

Museums
The Stedelijk Museum Zutphen strikingly presents the history of the Hanze town Hanzestad Zutphen and surroundings with old maps, layouts, skyscapes, portraits and photos. Other museums include the Speelgoedmuseum Deventer with toys from all the eras and Het Kunstenlab with varying modern art exhibitions.

Film
See a film at Filmtheater Luxor or Filmhuis De Keizer, each featuring a selection of interesting films.

Garden
The Overtuin, in the middle of the village of Warnsveld, is a must for any garden lover. This English-style landscape garden from 1832 has a rich history. It is, for example, home to the oldest pagoda tree in the Netherlands.

Children
Skatepark Canyon is one of the biggest skate parks in Europe. Suitable for skaters and BMX riders. Younger children will enjoy Kinderboerderij De Schouw, with its animals and activities. For nearly all ages: Children’s play paradise Ballorig Or take a boat trip on the Fluisterboot Zutphen, which takes you past the loveliest spots in the river de Berkel and even sails over the Grote Gracht.

Books
The legendary annual Deventer Book Market takes place on the first Sunday of August. With six kilometres of books, this is the biggest book market in Europe.

Cycling
Zutphen is a perfect starting point for lovely cycle tours. Particularly worthwhile are the Cycle Route from Hanze town to Hanze town, the Achterhoek Tour and the Graafschaproute West.

Brasserie 6
Seven days a week, this bustling brasserie is open for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. The modern menu is very accessible. The spacious, sunny terrace can rightfully call itself the loveliest terrace in Zutphen. The view over the old Walburgiskerk is splendid. Nippy? The heating ensures that you can sit out on the terrace for longer.

Restaurant Schulten Hues & Friends
Schulten Hues & Friends is the lounge restaurant of the culinary brother of star restaurant Schulten Hues, right opposite the hotel. This restaurant’s star chef Peter Gast and sommelier Jacqueline van Liere discuss the menu with fellow star chefs. Hence the name. The interior design is modern; the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. On various Sundays, the restaurant organises a “lazy Sunday afternoon”, focusing on one of the fellow star chefs.
