Historic hotel in the centre of Zutphen

A weekend in Zutphen? Then Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen in the centre of the town is the ultimate location. In the hotel alone, history will be all around you, with seventeenth century architecture and paintings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. From the hotel, you walk through the winding streets and alleyways of the old town of Zutphen past attractions such as the Sint Walburgiskerk, the Berkelpoort and the many courtyards.

From Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen, there are some lovely cycle tours. Highlights are De Graafschap in the northwest of the Achterhoek region, the woodlands with their estates and castles and the Achterhoek tour. There is also plenty to attract gourmets to Zutphen. In and around the hotel, there are two high quality restaurants such as Brasserie 6.

Starting point for some lovely cycle tours.

The Hampshire Hotel – ’s Gravenhof Zutphen is housed in the seventeenth century “Huize van Kasteele” building in the city centre. This is the ideal starting point for walks through the historic city centre, past merchant houses and warehouses from the Hanze era and picturesque courtyards. But there's lots more to do in Zutphen:

The Stedelijk Museum Zutphen strikingly presents the history of the Hanze town Hanzestad Zutphen and surroundings with old maps, layouts, skyscapes, portraits and photos. Other museums include the Speelgoedmuseum Deventer with toys from all the eras and Het Kunstenlab with varying modern art exhibitions.

See a film at cinema Cinemajestic or the movie theatre Luxor, each featuring a selection of interesting, nice films.

The Overtuin, in the middle of the village of Warnsveld, is a must for any garden lover. This English-style landscape garden from 1832 has a rich history. It is, for example, home to the oldest pagoda tree in the Netherlands.

Skatepark Canyon is one of the biggest skate parks in Europe. Suitable for skaters and BMX riders. Younger children will enjoy Kinderboerderij De Schouw, with its animals and activities. For nearly all ages: Children’s play paradise Ballorig Or take a boat trip on the Fluisterboot Zutphen, which takes you past the loveliest spots in the river de Berkel and even sails over the Grote Gracht.

The legendary annual Deventer Book Market takes place on the first Sunday of August. With six kilometres of books, this is the biggest book market in Europe.

Zutphen is a perfect starting point for lovely cycle tours. Particularly worthwhile are the Cycle Route from Hanze town to Hanze town, the Achterhoek Tour and the Graafschaproute West.

Brasserie 6
Seven days a week, this bustling brasserie is open for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. The modern menu is very accessible. The spacious, sunny terrace can rightfully call itself the loveliest terrace in Zutphen. The view over the old Walburgiskerk is splendid. Nippy? The heating ensures that you can sit out on the terrace for longer.

“Mixed Bag, Indeed”

Yet again a hotel with great potential, spoiled by some miserable unhelpful staff in a hotel chain, making you feel unwelcome from the start. Our luggage was delivered at the hotel in the morning and was left unattended in the communal passage until our arrival late in the afternoon. "We do not have a porter service and we are too busy"! This was our welcome after 64km cycling in 32C, with not even a complimentary glass of tap water at reception. The "last straw" was on the last night when we were refused to have a desert on the outside terrace by another sullen waitress, "No food outside tonight!" Bart and Esmé were the two exceptions to the rest of the unhappy staff. The internet is free but not worth logging on for. No air conditioning. Badly stained carpets. Breakfast very standard for a 4 star hotel. In case the management wishes to reply, this time in English, please.

This hotel was perfect for our family of three! The beds we incredibly comfy and the food was spectacular! The night time bar was full of flavour and laughter and it was a really nice environment to stay in in a lovely located town, Zutphen. The town has many shops, including a very tasty cheese shop with cheeses in all flavours, shapes and sizes! Wonderful stay!

“Great place to stay to visit Zutphen”

Our room was one of the newly and tastefully renovated rooms in the front of the hotel looking out onto the cafe/bar area. Our booking request for a quiet room had been overlooked. Our room had no air conditioning and although a fan was provided, the room was very hot despite having the window open all night. This meant that we did not sleep very well. The staff were helpful and provided a kettle on request. The hotel restaurant was excellent and breakfast very good. The location of the hotel is excellent for a town visit - everything can be accessed easily on foot. A pubic car park on the square immediately on front of the hotel is convenient and free during the night-time but during the day parking is limited to a maximum of 4 hours which is a big inconvenience for guests staying several days.

Dear guest, Thank you for your comments following your stay, during hot days it can become a bit hot in the rooms, hence indeed the fan. Because we are a city hotel, the hotel has no private parking, subject to availability, we do have tickets for an entire day at Euro 12.50 Hopefully we can receive you again as a guest in the future.

“Center hotel with charm”

Hotel dates from 1564 with charm, town has lots of little streets and a huge church, parts of town walls over a canal with openings, nice, clean hotel, good price, and a great breakfast, walking distance close to restaurants

“A mixed bag.”

Great bathroom, but with cracked paint, dirty and rotting? woodwork, calcium deposits, yellowing plastics. Free tea and coffee in room, after asked for just a water boiler, but with the provided stirring spoons were unwashed and dirty. French balcony, that opened to walled in smoker area and a noisy electronic (airco?) unit. Sort of negates the smoke free rooms policy if they allow smoking in a walled in internal garden space with opening room windows connected to it everywhere. HD tv, but only basic channels with poor signal giving snow and glitches making it nearly unwatchable, no on demand movie service, nor radio function or basic hotel functionality, on a hotel TV. Room was nice, but sparse in decoration, leaving it a bit echoing due to the bare walls. It could do with some (fake) plants on window sills, or a painting or two, three more. Roomy and high ceilinged, however. Beds were high quality but very firm, hard even. Provided linnen was great. Wifi signal in room was spotty at best. Phone was old with a broken and initially disconnected plug. Right bedside electric socket was used for bedside lights, leaving just one socket on the other side to keep a phone close as it charged, which had to function as a clock, since the room had none. Service was great, much improved since last visit six years ago. Hotel was a nice mix of stately old and modern, shame the upkeep maintenance on the, specifically bathroom, was so poor. Didn't reflect the hotel's appearance at all. The stately yet modern look of the hotel matches perfectly with the town itself, which is filled with old buildings, churches, museums, pubs, lunch rooms, restaurants. Considering the international tourism in the town, it is strange most information (not just at hotel, but the tourist traps, restaurants too) was just in Dutch. The whole visit was overall very pleasing, due to the friendly and helpful staff, and the principle of the hotel is good... But the execution of the ideas leave a fair amount to be desired. The quality of the execution of design ideas make this visit a very mixed bag. In my opinion, not worthy of a 4 star hotel in a standard room.
