Trendy hotel with luxury rooms and trendy lounge bar

The Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam is situated in a unique building in Amsterdam-Oost: the former Burgerziekenhuis (hospital). This historic building on the Linnaeusstraat was renovated in 2011 into a trendy hotel with luxury rooms and its own Italian restaurant, Enoteca. The hotel is easy to reach by car or public transport. And by tram, bus or bike, you’ll be right in the centre of the city in 7 minutes.

Enoteca’s terrace is a great place. You can enjoy sitting in the sun with a perfect view and delicious drinks and snacks on the table. Feel like doing something? You can take a walk in Oosterpark, go to the Dappermarkt or hire a bicycle to visit a museum in the area. Hermitage Amsterdam, Science Center NEMO, Tropenmuseum and the Joods Historisch Museum are all close by. As is the biggest attraction of Amsterdam-Oost: Artis Zoo.

In the middle of up-and-coming Amsterdam-Oost

The Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam is in the middle of Amsterdam-Oost, the up-and-coming city district. In recent years many great restaurants, cafés and other hotspots have arrived. You can walk easily to Oosterpark from the hotel, where there are regular festivals and other events. The multi-cultural Dappermarkt is also within walking distance. You can also, of course, hire a bicycle to explore the area. A few tips:

Art and culture
In the 17th Century Huize Frankendael there are regular exhibitions, each with its own programme of lectures, debates and sometimes also concerts. You can also take a peaceful walk in the adjacent Park Frankendael, with stylish garden and landscaped garden, a sunny meadow and marsh. The Tropenmuseum tells you all about the daily lives of people from other cultures. At Hermitage Amsterdam, there are impressive art exhibitions. In the Joods Historisch Museum you can learn all about Jewish culture, religion and history.

Markets
The Pure Markt comes regularly to Park Frankendael. As well as delicious food and drink, there is theatre, music and a merry-go-round on this market. Great for the entire family. The famous flea market on Waterlooplein is real old-Amsterdam. For herring or a kebab you can visit the lively, multi-cultural Dappermarkt.

Children
Great and educational is Science Center NEMO at Oosterdok. Further on, by the beautiful Scheepvaartmuseum, is a replica of the East India Company ship, Amsterdam.

Zoo
All the locals, with or without children, visit to Artis regularly to see monkeys and gaze endlessly at the tropical fish in the Aquarium.

“Nice hotel, good location, internet fair”

This is a nice hotel with a friendly staff in a decent location. There is a part nearby where you can enjoy the outdoors (weather permitting) and convenient to the tram. The hotel is well kept and comfortable, I have only a couple of pieces of constructive feedback. One is that their internet was spotty and frustrating. I had a similar experience at another hotel I stayed at in Amsterdam and wonder if it is the infrastructure there. Whatever the case, it's 2015, hotels should have internet easily accessible 24/7. This hotel did not. I believe part of it is a bandwidth issue as the problems were worse during peak periods. The light by my bed didn't work and I called down. They said the bulb was irreplaceable. Really? Why would you put a bedside light that was irreplaceable in a hotel room? The other thing is - watch your step. I took the stairs up and down and there's a step which is almost not discernible step right at the door. I tripped on it many time, always forgetting it was there. there was also a threshold coming out of the bathroom - fortunately the bed is right there making for a safe landing :) The restaurant was good, though service a bit slow. Even so - worth it! The baked provolone was really good as was the salad and truffled pasta!

“Nice hotel for a traininf”

Stayed here for a few nights for a training for work. The training room was quite nice, well equipped with everything needed. The rooms are basic though, quite small, but nothing unordinary for Amsterdam. Would recommend to someone visiting. One issue I had was during the lunch at the restaurant. I informed the waitress that I was pregnant and unable to eat everything that was offered. She tried to convince me that the meat on the sandwich was pastrami when it was clearly carpaccio which I could not eat. The manager stepped in and fixed the situation and ensured that on the second day a different lunch was prepared. However, I was not impressed with someone trying to convince me that the raw meat on a sandwich wasn't raw meat. The manager made up for it though.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. We highly appreciate your provided feedback. Great to read that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel during your training. I am sorry to hear that your question concerning the lunch in the restaurant was not adequately responded to. I understand that this has caused unnecessary inconvenience. I am pleased to read that our Manager had a quick solution. We will discuss your comments internally to make sure to prevent this from happening again. We hope to welcome you back soon. “Lovely hotel!”

My boyfriend and I stayed here before Christmas for 4 nights. The hotel was easy to find as it was a 5 minute walk from Muiderpoort Station. However, when we checked in, we were asked for a credit card which neither of us had, so they had to take a €50 deposit off us which was very annoying as we had a set amount of money for our time there! It would've been nice to have had a warning about deposit money... The tram stop was right outside the hotel which was very handy! The hotel room was lovely, but we expected a king size bed, not two singles pushed together. The bathroom wasn't very private as the door was shaded glass and we could see each other through the window too. Overall, a lovely hotel and has a lot of easy accesses!

“Good Hotel Outside the City Centre”

I have no understanding for glass doors to the bathroom. Also I did not find the bed in the room very comfortable. Those two flaws resulted in my overall rating. Otherwise the hotel is in a pretty good location. If arriving from Schiphol get off the train at Muiderpoort station and then it's like 10 minutes easy walk to the hotel. When going to the city you can use the tram or even walk if you like. I skipped the breakfast offer so I can't comment on that service.

“Beautiful hotel, walking distance to city”

We loved our stay in the Hampshire Hotel. Although there is a tram (no. 9) directly outside which goes to Amsterdam Central station, we walked into different areas of the town every day, no more than 45 minutes at a nice pace. If you're coming direct from Schipol airport, it is only a 5 min walk from Muiderpoort Station - trains leave direct every 30 mins. Hotel itself is beautifully designed. Rooms and decor in hallway are gorgeous. Staff are incredibly pleasant, and give free city maps / directions as needed.
