Located in romantic wine village, Nittel

Hampshire Moselhotel – Nitteler Hof is located in the romantic wine village of Nittel, just two hours drive from Maastricht and Brussels. In the German Mosel area, enjoying is key. Not just the wines, but also the restaurant’s fantastic restaurant. And the other hotel services, such as the wellness centre in the Roman vaulted cellar, the bowling alley and the extensive children’s playroom.

Hampshire Moselhotel - Nitteler Hof’s surroundings are perfect for a fantastic weekend away or a mini holiday not too far away from the Netherlands. You can cycle, walk, play golf, and enjoy delicious foods and sublime wines. The hotel is located extremely centrally in the three-country area, Germany-Luxembourg-France. Discover the oldest city in Germany

In the breathtaking surroundings of the beautiful wine village of Nittel you can enjoy fantastic walks and cycling trips. Trier, the oldest city in Germany, was once the capital city of the northern Roman Empire. There are museums and monuments everywhere that recall this period. Tips:

The birthplace of Karl Marx is on Brückenstraße 10 in Trier. Today in Karl Marx House, there’s a permanent Karl Marx exhibition (1818-1883) about Karl Marx and his influential ideas. The most famous museum in Trier is Rheinisches Landesmuseum. You’re given a good impression here of what happened in the first four centuries after Christ.

Places of interest
There are beautiful Roman buildings in Trier, such as Porta Nigra, the best-preserved Roman city gate to the north of the Alps, the not-to-be-missed Dom in the centre of Trier and one of the city’s main attractions: the Keizerlijke Thermen. In the city of Metz you’ll find Cathédrale Saint-Étienne, one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in France. You can view the famous lead glass windows by artist Chagall here.

Walking and cycling
Don’t forget to pack your walking boots if you’re coming to the Mosel area, because there are tremendous walks here. There are beautiful walks laid out along castles, fortresses and famous vineyards. There’s lots for cyclists to relish. For instance you can take the famous Mosel-Radweg (238 kilometres) along the Mosel to Koblenz. Or the Saar-Radweg (110 kilometres) that runs from the mouth of the Saar in the Mosel to Saargemünd in France.

For an impressive bird of prey show, you can visit Greifvogelpark Saalburg. At the end of the show, the children can have a photo taken with a falcon. When the weather’s fine, you can zoom down the 500-metre Zomerrodelbaan toboggan run Saar-Rodel in Saarburg.

Golfing is fantastic in these beautiful surroundings, for instance at the 18-hole golf course at Golfclub Trier and Golf Club Cochem/Mosel in Ediger-Eller or the 9-hole golf course at Golf-Club Hanh.

Mediterranean dishes based on seasonal produce

Mediterranean dishes based on seasonal produce

Restaurant Terracotta
Restaurant Terracotta is oriented towards Mediterranean cuisine. The chefs work only with first-class seasonal produce. There’s a charcoal grill in the open kitchen on which the specialities of the house are prepared: home-smoked salmon, trout, duck and corn-fed chicken. And the restaurant has more classics that people come back for: steak, pork fillet with Gorgonzola and various renowned desserts. And of course there is a wide choice of wines from the region on the wine menu, including those made from the Elbling grape. You can choose from no fewer than 105(!) local wines.

The combination of tapas and wine is a tried and tested recipe. In Spain they’ve enjoyed it for centuries and tapas have also been a hit in Europe for some time. You can take your time enjoying these Spanish snacks in the hotel’s tapas bar. And when the weather's fine, you can adjourn to the terrace. Of course with a matching Mosel wine.

“Paradise in Nittel”

My colleagues and I stayed at the Hof for a few days as Luxembourg was booked up due to a conference. What a find! The hotel was clean, the staff were very helpful (they ironed a shirt at short notice) and the breakfast was good. Nittel is quiet but has many hidden charms including several decent places to eat. We cannot wait to go back and look forward to going on the Mosel boat trip in the summer.

“Fawlty Towers”

We booked this hotel for the last night of our holiday. It was said to have a spa area and a pool. We were disappointed. The pool is a little more than a tub and the only way to swim is very slowely against an automated current. It was also not very clean. When we arrived it was midday and we wanted to have a lunch. This was not possible in the hotel and we were directed to a bakery which wa apparently burned and the temporary cod was closed of. When we returned the cook was prepared to offer us some cold tapas after he was done with the inventory, which would take another hour. Since there wa no alternative in the entire town, we waited and started to feel there was something a bit weird with this hotel. At dinner things became interesting again. We had booked a 3course meal, which was very good by the way, as were the tapas in the afternoon. We were offered a table outside on the terrace, but it was covered in sunlight without any shade available. So we prefered eating inside. No problems here, all was well. A few minutes later another couple wanted to sit inside for the same reasons and were told they had to wait because all the tables inside were taken. This was partly true... all the tables at the front were taken, there were about 20 tables at the back still available. Apparently this part is only used for breakfast. After a good night sleep, we wanted to use the sauna. Outside it was about 35 degrees celcius. The sauna was turned on and after an hour and a half it was still only 40 degrees... The staff didn't seem that bothered that we were un able to use the sauna. All in all the hotel gave us some laughs, it felt like staying in Fawlty Towers.

“Enjoyable stay”

We stayed one night at this hotel and enjoyed it. Our room was right at the top with the sloping roof and was a bit cramped and would have been a real problem for someone taller than our 5' 8". Also the blinds didn't really keep out the light very well. However, the bed was comfortable and we managed without banging our heads too much! There wasn't a lift so we were glad we only had one small case. The staff were very helpful in helping us connect to the internet. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel and enjoyed them both. The prices were reasonable and the food good quality. We didn't use the pool or wellness centre. We walked down to the river and looked across to Luxembourg, but there didn't seem to be much else to see without going by car. Staff were all friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English.

“Konfirmation lunch at the Restaurant”

Invited to a confirmation lunch in the restaurant at this hotel. The food was excellent and they kindly provided gluten free bread/rolls for me, as requested by the hosts. These rolls were excellent as was the selection of foods served at the lunch. Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel facilities include a pool and sauna, and some of the confirmation guests did use the former to cool off on a hot day!
