In the breathtaking surroundings of the beautiful wine village of Nittel you can enjoy fantastic walks and cycling trips. Trier, the oldest city in Germany, was once the capital city of the northern Roman Empire. There are museums and monuments everywhere that recall this period. Tips:

Museums
The birthplace of Karl Marx is on Brückenstraße 10 in Trier. Today in Karl Marx House, there’s a permanent Karl Marx exhibition (1818-1883) about Karl Marx and his influential ideas. The most famous museum in Trier is Rheinisches Landesmuseum. You’re given a good impression here of what happened in the first four centuries after Christ.

Places of interest
There are beautiful Roman buildings in Trier, such as Porta Nigra, the best-preserved Roman city gate to the north of the Alps, the not-to-be-missed Dom in the centre of Trier and one of the city’s main attractions: the Keizerlijke Thermen. In the city of Metz you’ll find Cathédrale Saint-Étienne, one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in France. You can view the famous lead glass windows by artist Chagall here.

Walking and cycling
Don’t forget to pack your walking boots if you’re coming to the Mosel area, because there are tremendous walks here. There are beautiful walks laid out along castles, fortresses and famous vineyards. There’s lots for cyclists to relish. For instance you can take the famous Mosel-Radweg (238 kilometres) along the Mosel to Koblenz. Or the Saar-Radweg (110 kilometres) that runs from the mouth of the Saar in the Mosel to Saargemünd in France.

Children
For an impressive bird of prey show, you can visit Greifvogelpark Saalburg. At the end of the show, the children can have a photo taken with a falcon. When the weather’s fine, you can zoom down the 500-metre Zomerrodelbaan toboggan run Saar-Rodel in Saarburg.

Golf
Golfing is fantastic in these beautiful surroundings, for instance at the 18-hole golf course at Golfclub Trier and Golf Club Cochem/Mosel in Ediger-Eller or the 9-hole golf course at Golf-Club Hanh.

Restaurant Terracotta
Restaurant Terracotta is oriented towards Mediterranean cuisine. The chefs work only with first-class seasonal produce. There’s a charcoal grill in the open kitchen on which the specialities of the house are prepared: home-smoked salmon, trout, duck and corn-fed chicken. And the restaurant has more classics that people come back for: steak, pork fillet with Gorgonzola and various renowned desserts. And of course there is a wide choice of wines from the region on the wine menu, including those made from the Elbling grape. You can choose from no fewer than 105(!) local wines.

Tapasbar
The combination of tapas and wine is a tried and tested recipe. In Spain they’ve enjoyed it for centuries and tapas have also been a hit in Europe for some time.
