Sun, sea, romance and luxury in abundance on Saba

Paradise on earth does exist and it’s called Queen’s Gardens Resort - Hampshire Classic. You’ll find this four-star hotel on the Antillean island of Saba, the smallest inhabited island of the Netherlands. The hotel’s location is unique: in the hills, 400 metres high, and surrounded by sub-tropical flora and fauna. As the hotel is so high up, you have beautiful views across the capital city, The Bottom, and the Caribbean Sea.

Sun, sea, beach and romance, those are the main ingredients of a holiday on Saba. The luxury Queen’s Gardens Resort - Hampshire Classic has more than twelve spaciously laid-out suites, a swimming pool with outside bar and a fantastic restaurant. According to those in the know, Saba is one of the most beautiful areas in the world for diving. So if you love diving, you simply have to pull on your wetsuit and marvel at the underwater world. If you don’t dive, you can snorkel instead in crystal clear water in the abundance of beautiful coral reefs.

Fantastic places for diving and snorkelling

What shall we do today: diving, snorkelling, lounging, swimming or something else? Here are a few tips to help you with this luxurious problem:

Art and culture
Saba does have a museum: the Saba Museum. It is located in a nineteenth-century captain’s house and gives you a good impression of the island’s history. The collection comprises authentic chairs, engravings, paintings and lace. In the English Quarter there are characteristic, brightly coloured Sabanese cottages. This village centre is where the first English colonists established themselves.

Diving and snorkelling
The most popular diving location is the Saba National Marine Park with more than 36 unique diving areas. Each diving area has its own special underwater world that you can discover, from fairy-tale like coral reefs and historic wrecks to volcanic lava streams. As well as different types of coral such as fire coral, stony coral and brain coral there are also a huge amount of fish types, including the small-spotted dogfish, the tiger grouper and the parrotfish. For snorkellers, Well’s Bay is the place to be!

Nature
The untouched rain forest on Saba is breathtakingly beautiful. You can take fantastic walks through the Saba National Park, an area of some 43 hectares. Mount Scenery is the highest mountain in the Kingdom of the Netherlands at some 887 metres high and the largest place of interest on the island. You can reach the top and enjoy stunning panoramic views via the Mount Scenery Trail, stairs with 1064 steps.

Relaxation
In Queen’s Gardens Resort – Hampshire Classic you can truly relax by the swimming pool with its sun veranda and outdoor bar. You can also have relaxing private yoga lessons and massages.

Delicious fresh lobster, straight from the sea!

Delicious fresh lobster, straight from the sea!

Queen's Gardens Restaurant
The term “local produce” has a different connotation in this restaurant than in a restaurant in the Netherlands. Because here, food caught fresher than fresh from the sea is of course an entirely different experience. Prepare yourself, because all the dishes are absolutely heavenly. Would you like fresh lobster or a perfect fish salad? The culinary feast starts here early in the morning with a fantastic à la carte breakfast that leaves nothing to be desired. From scrambled eggs to French toast: everything is available. For lunch and dinner you can also settle down here to enjoy the delicious food, everything fresh and home-made.

Ocean Bar/Lounge
Of course, there’s nothing better than drinking cocktails with a view of the Caribbean Sea and your loved one. The Ocean Bar/Lounge is surrounded by beautiful mango trees of more than a hundred years old. It has fantastic bar stools and comfortable lounge sofas. You can order cocktails, wine, fresh fruit juice, snacks and much more delicious food and drink. You can also enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner here. The bar/lounge is open from 9.00 am and closes at the same time as the restaurant.

“Top Flight”

The Queens Garden is a tremendous small resort that you just won't want to leave. This is the place to chill! The location is up on the side of a lushly landscaped mountain and has an awesome view to the valley and town below. The gentle breeze is a unique combination of tropical air and mountain air. The nearby town of Windwardside has more of a selection of restaurants, but the best food on the island is right there at Queens Garden. The rooms are very large suites and very comfortable. The service is impeccable, better than any Ritz, and very personable. Claire the owner operator is at the top of the field and really knows how to train her small highly capable staff. They have very affordable dive packages with Sea Saba (perhaps the best dive operator of all of my world travels). If you are a discerning traveler that appreciates quality and the total vibe then Queens Garden is the place.

“Bliss”

Tucked away on a south-facing hill, overlooking 'The Bottom', and the south coast, Queens Gardens is a relaxing and luxurious getaway on Saba, Dutch Caribbean. Surrounded by lush hills, with ready access to beautiful hiking trails, 'Queens' is a place for comfort, peace, a relaxing atmosphere, and excellent food and wine. Their recently added spa offers a wide variety of treatments and quality products, that will induce complete relaxation and a sense of well-being. I have been fortunate to stay at 'Queens' on many occasions and highly recommend this wonderful hotel for it's quality of service, friendly staff, and ideal setting.

“Welcome to paradise”

Dive, relax or hike. If you excel at any one of these three things, you will be very pleased at Queen's. The resort staff make you feel welcome and tend to your every need. The food in the restaurant is carefully crafted and the menu has a wide range to choose from. Make sure you plan your island excursions in advance and plan your hikes. The island is small, but you must get around with a taxi which they will arrange for you promptly. Enjoy the views out of your private balcony and your private jacuzzi if you wish...cheers!

“Gorgeous room and great service”

We are so happy we decided to go to Saba for our Caribbean trip. The staff at the Queens Garden were incredibly helpful and attentive. The room was beautiful and the hot tub in the room was unbelievable. The trails were easily accessible from the hotel and made for such a nice hike. Our absolute favorite thing about the resort was their food, and their squid ink pasta which we ate two nights in a row and licked our plates clean. The second night we got to sit in the tree house and enjoyed the night view. It was a splurge, but definitely worth it. I would come here again in a heartbeat.

“The best service”

Staff make you feel welcome from the moment you step on the property. Beautiful hotel and view. Food and drinks are great but expensive. We went elsewhere for brunch after the first day. I lived on Saba for almost 2 years and booked by Mom and her boyfriend here while they were visiting. If you are visiting Saba I would recommend to stay here but remember that you ARE in the caribbean and there may or may not be cockroaches!
