Sun, sea, romance and luxury in abundance on Saba

Paradise on earth does exist and it’s called Queen’s Gardens Resort - Hampshire Classic. You’ll find this four-star hotel on the Antillean island of Saba, the smallest inhabited island of the Netherlands. The hotel’s location is unique: in the hills, 400 metres high, and surrounded by sub-tropical flora and fauna. As the hotel is so high up, you have beautiful views across the capital city, The Bottom, and the Caribbean Sea.

Sun, sea, beach and romance, those are the main ingredients of a holiday on Saba. The luxury Queen’s Gardens Resort - Hampshire Classic has more than twelve spaciously laid-out suites, a swimming pool with outside bar and a fantastic restaurant. According to those in the know, Saba is one of the most beautiful areas in the world for diving. So if you love diving, you simply have to pull on your wetsuit and marvel at the underwater world. If you don’t dive, you can snorkel instead in crystal clear water in the abundance of beautiful coral reefs.

Fantastic places for diving and snorkelling

What shall we do today: diving, snorkelling, lounging, swimming or something else? Here are a few tips to help you with this luxurious problem:

Art and culture
Saba does have a museum: the Saba Museum. It is located in a nineteenth-century captain’s house and gives you a good impression of the island’s history. The collection comprises authentic chairs, engravings, paintings and lace. In the English Quarter there are characteristic, brightly coloured Sabanese cottages. This village centre is where the first English colonists established themselves.

Diving and snorkelling
The most popular diving location is the Saba National Marine Park with more than 36 unique diving areas. Each diving area has its own special underwater world that you can discover, from fairy-tale like coral reefs and historic wrecks to volcanic lava streams. As well as different types of coral such as fire coral, stony coral and brain coral there are also a huge amount of fish types, including the small-spotted dogfish, the tiger grouper and the parrotfish. For snorkellers, Well’s Bay is the place to be!

The untouched rain forest on Saba is breathtakingly beautiful. You can take fantastic walks through the Saba National Park, an area of some 43 hectares. Mount Scenery is the highest mountain in the Kingdom of the Netherlands at some 887 metres high and the largest place of interest on the island. You can reach the top and enjoy stunning panoramic views via the Mount Scenery Trail, stairs with 1064 steps.

In Queen’s Gardens Resort – Hampshire Classic you can truly relax by the swimming pool with its sun veranda and outdoor bar. You can also have relaxing private yoga lessons and massages.

Delicious fresh lobster, straight from the sea!

Delicious fresh lobster, straight from the sea!

Queen's Gardens Restaurant
The term “local produce” has a different connotation in this restaurant than in a restaurant in the Netherlands. Because here, food caught fresher than fresh from the sea is of course an entirely different experience. Prepare yourself, because all the dishes are absolutely heavenly. Would you like fresh lobster or a perfect fish salad? The culinary feast starts here early in the morning with a fantastic à la carte breakfast that leaves nothing to be desired. From scrambled eggs to French toast: everything is available. For lunch and dinner you can also settle down here to enjoy the delicious food, everything fresh and home-made.

Ocean Bar/Lounge
Of course, there’s nothing better than drinking cocktails with a view of the Caribbean Sea and your loved one. The Ocean Bar/Lounge is surrounded by beautiful mango trees of more than a hundred years old. It has fantastic bar stools and comfortable lounge sofas. You can order cocktails, wine, fresh fruit juice, snacks and much more delicious food and drink. You can also enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner here. The bar/lounge is open from 9.00 am and closes at the same time as the restaurant.

“Amazing Resort and Island”

Saba is an island that can quickly get into your blood. Easy, beautiful, and incredibly friendly. Queen's Gardens is a beautiful setting with incredible service. Claire runs the resort with great attention to detail. Her staff bends over backwards to make sure everything is perfect...and they seem genuinely happy. They feel like family...and make everyone feel welcome and at home. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there...and from the minute we arrived we knew we picked the right place. The food was phenomenal...the hot tub facing the mountains and ocean...all breathtaking. Not to mention some of the best scuba in the world...and incredible hiking through the rain forest. We will be back! Thanks Claire and staff!

We strongly recommend this place to relax and pamper yourself. Service is one of a kind. All the staff is very polite and kind. This place is very well located at the Bottom the capital of Saba, is close to the trails and also is quite and peaceful if you are looking to relax. Do not hesitate to stay here. “Our 45th Anniversary at the Queen's Gardens Resort”

We knew that the Queen's Gardens Resort was beautiful from watching the videos on the internet, but we were just stunned when we arrived - how could it be even more beautiful than what we expected? We were greeted so warmly upon our arrival. Our suite was beyond our wildest expectations - so beautiful. Every window looked out at the ocean - the landscaping was gorgeous. Our room had a jacuzzi that is open to the ocean view. We sat in the warm water and sipped champagne while listening to the birds sing. The hosts are gracious people and the staff is outstanding. Everyone was so polite, so professional, yet so warm and caring. We were treated like "royalty". The meals were just outstanding - absolute perfection! We plan on returning next year but we're going to stay much longer!

The best bit was Claire and Hidde's personal service - they make you feel like you are the only guest staying there. Little things like running out to greet you as you step out of the taxi, choosing walking sticks for the hikes, and letting us play with the puppy :-) They anticipate needs - like asking/suggesting at breakfast where you might want to eat dinner.

“Incredible place”

Queens Resort was truly fantastic. My husband and I went in January for our honeymoon and we wish we could have stayed for far longer. The room was incredible (along with the view) and the staff were always there to help or make our stay even better. The food was extremely good and we enjoyed many dinners in the restaurant. Saba Island itself is a very special place in the world - we will be back.

“Attentive service, excellent food”

Inspired cooking team gave us excellent quality food, accompanied with caring service even on the most difficult moments for the team (heaviest rainfall in many years around Christmas, leading to dangerous situations on the island(s)). Thanks to the complete team.
