Trendy hotel with luxury rooms and trendy lounge bar

The Manor Hotel Amsterdam – Hampshire Eden is situated in a unique building in Amsterdam-Oost: the former Burgerziekenhuis (hospital). This historic building on the Linnaeusstraat was renovated in 2011 into a trendy hotel with luxury rooms and its own Italian restaurant, Enoteca. The hotel is easy to reach by car or public transport. And by tram, bus or bike, you’ll be right in the centre of the city in 7 minutes.

Enoteca’s terrace is a great place. You can enjoy sitting in the sun with a perfect view and delicious drinks and snacks on the table. Feel like doing something? You can take a walk in Oosterpark, go to the Dappermarkt or hire a bicycle to visit a museum in the area. Hermitage Amsterdam, Science Center NEMO, Tropenmuseum and the Joods Historisch Museum are all close by. As is the biggest attraction of Amsterdam-Oost: Artis Zoo.

In the middle of up-and-coming Amsterdam-Oost

The Manor Hotel Amsterdam – Hampshire Eden is in the middle of Amsterdam-Oost, the up-and-coming city district. In recent years many great restaurants, cafés and other hotspots have arrived. You can walk easily to Oosterpark from the hotel, where there are regular festivals and other events. The multi-cultural Dappermarkt is also within walking distance. You can also, of course, hire a bicycle to explore the area. A few tips:

Art and culture
In the 17th Century Huize Frankendael there are regular exhibitions, each with its own programme of lectures, debates and sometimes also concerts. You can also take a peaceful walk in the adjacent Park Frankendael, with stylish garden and landscaped garden, a sunny meadow and marsh. The Tropenmuseum tells you all about the daily lives of people from other cultures. At Hermitage Amsterdam, there are impressive art exhibitions. In the Joods Historisch Museum you can learn all about Jewish culture, religion and history.

The Pure Markt comes regularly to Park Frankendael. As well as delicious food and drink, there is theatre, music and a merry-go-round on this market. Great for the entire family. The famous flea market on Waterlooplein is real old-Amsterdam. For herring or a kebab you can visit the lively, multi-cultural Dappermarkt.

Great and educational is Science Center NEMO at Oosterdok. Further on, by the beautiful Scheepvaartmuseum, is a replica of the East India Company ship, Amsterdam.

All the locals, with or without children, visit to Artis regularly to see monkeys and gaze endlessly at the tropical fish in the Aquarium.

“Would happily recommend”

A well appointed hotel. Good rooms and even though we were at the front of the hotel any noise from the road was barely audiable. When booking we asked for a ground floor room as one of our paty has mobility issues. This was provided without the need to prompt. The rception staff were more than happy to help us book a couple of restauants. The hotel is adjacent to tram stops which get you back into the centre or any of the other attractions that Amsterdam has to offer. Enjoyed the stay and would come back again or recommend to friends.

“Would definitely stay again”

We stayed here for four nights in August. The hotel is stunning and although it's about a 30-45minute walk from the centre of the city it's in a good location. The tram stop is directly in front of the hotel, a post office just a few doors down and a shop that's open late across the road. Our room was a good size and very clean, which is the first thing I check as I've previously worked in the hospitality business so I have expectations. Our tea and coffees were topped up daily which was great. The shower room was clean and spacious with clean towels. The bed was very comfortable and bedding all made daily. All staff we met and had dealings with were friendly and approachable. The waitresses were lovely. We ate in the hotels restaurant twice during our stay; once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the food was at a very high standard especially for the price. Lunch was pasta which was just amazing- in fact the standard of food wasn't met anywhere else we ate in the city. Would definitely stay there again on our return to the city.

Stayed for 3 nights. Nothing special. In my opinion not worth the tram journey (which is more like 20-25 mins not 7 as hotel advertise). If was choosing again I would pick nearer to centre but still on tram route. Breakfast OK, all self serve - eggs terrible - but rest ok. The concierge (not the young one) was very nice, very helpful; the rest were a bit hopeless. One last point, bathrooms had clear glass so overlooked from room and not soundproofed!

“Staff were OK, Hotel was Amazing! Will definitely revisist”

I know my title sounds a bit contradictory, but I'll start off with the Hotel first. We had booked this through a last minute website and wasn't sure about what it would be like. When we arrived at the local train station it only took us 5 minutes to find the hotel and was in very close walking distance which was handy both for arrival and departure. The outside of the hotel was gorgeous, and the interior just got better. It was absolutely immaculate throughout and whilst I was a little taken aback by some of the decor on other tripadvisor photos, I have to say it was absolutely gorgeous when we arrived. The lobby was impressive and the rooms were faultless. One particular thing I'll call out is the curtains in the bedroom, they were lined so so well that when closed it left the room pitch black, even on the sunniest of days. This was great as it allowed us to sleep in way longer than we normally would. The bathroom was spotless and towels were replaced every day for us, along with the bed being made up etc. The two downsides but not completely critical were the staff and the breakfast which we paid for on the first morning. There was a concierge at the lobby on a few occasions and he was offering help but overall found him not to be aware of people around him, we were standing in the lobby/door area for a few moments where he had his back to us. We were looking at maps etc and felt that he could have asked us if we needed assistance... in Ireland the normal trend for a concierge is to step up and guide you with whatever you need to know. Maybe I didn't give him enough of a chance but I felt he missed an opportunity to make our experience at the hotel an extra special one. The reception staff were slightly similar, not asking at any point when talking to them if we were having a good stay, enjoying the sites etc. Again, maybe I'm asking for too much. The breakfast was good, but unfortunately the eggs and sausages were quite cold. This is something that is a fault with a lot of hotels, as if you have breakfast close to cut off time that the food shouldn't really lose its quality. We came down 30 minutes prior to cut off time so would have hoped for more. However whilst cold it was nevertheless tasty, but not for €12.50 each! Overall I have to say that the hotel was gorgeous, the decor and comfort factor were just amazing. I will definitely return to the Manor hotel for it's quality and ease of access to the city centre (trams run outside every 10 minutes) and it truly made our holiday very memorable indeed.

“Best concierge”

The hotel was good, a bit further from the action of downtown but also has good bus service. What really stood out was the morning concierge Marcel. He helped us with bus routes, suggested wonderful country side towns, and was all around jolly and nice. We vote " Marcel for hotel president"!!
