Best City Boutique Hotel

If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. The Dam is also not far from the hotel. On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“Perfetto! Best location, top courtesy, romantic environment”

On top of what in all 5 stars review, we got a gratious 500 € reimbursement from a previous no show, despite clear hotel policies to the contrary. Will be back, hopefully to our silent, glamour, confortable, jacuzzed room.

“Splendid hotel, great service”

We chose The Toren because of the high recommendations in Tripadvisor's reviews and the hotel's great location by the canal and near city center. From the first step into your hotel we become more certain that our decision has been right. Never got more polite and considering welcome in a hotel in Europe. We have booked a small double room with canal view, but there were basically no space to our clothes. We told at the reception our problem and we were offered a larger room from the garden side of the house. There were enough space to our clothes and other things and also a jacuzzi, which was nice. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and and very quiet, the bed was comfortable and the pillows soft. The staff was genuine polite and very helpful. The breakfast was delicious and I did even get gluten free bread for breakfast which was also very nice. We would highly recommend The Toren hotel to anyone traveling to Amsterdam.

“Wonderful hotel”

We returned last night from a two day trip to Amsterdam and stayed at The Toren. The hotel is beautiful, the staff so helpful and understandably proud of their hotel. Its very close to the city centre, just around the corner from Anne Franks house so perfectly located. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here and would return without a shadow of a doubt to this city and this hotel. Just as a note of advice, the waiting time for the Anne Frank house is much longer than indicated on the signs, don't be fooled!!

“The small room”

The people at the Toren seem to be very nervous about the "room for one person" as indeed it is quite small. There are actually two of them, one in the main building and one in the annex. I would suggest the one in the main building even tho the annex one is slightly bigger. The annex is about ten houses away, and that makes it more distant from Breakfast and the tram system. And the room in the main building has a lift opposite so there is no climbing stairs with suitcases. So in addition to all the good things that others have said about this wonderful hotel, don't be afraid about booking the small room for one (if there is only one of you) as it is fine for the job (yes it is snug) has a comfy chair and an industrial Nespresso machine. And good value

“Best Hotel Ever!”

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in! Do you remember when you were a child and would imagine sleeping in a cloud? well that is how comfortable the bed was. The room was beautifully decorated and super clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful Breakfast was great too. Its close to the centre of Amsterdam but still in a quite spot. I loved my stay here!
