If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Museums
Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

Shopping
De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Children
Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“Wish there were SIX stars”

We stayed at the Toren in April for two nights and it stands out as one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The property is everything that you dream of when you think of Amsterdam. Its location is picturesque and perfect for exploring the rest of the city and transportation links. When we stepped into the foyer we were immediately struck by the opulence and that feeling of luxury and warmth carried through from the check in desk to the bar to the halls to our room. We especially loved the additional private room that reminded us of a 19th century mens library or withdrawing room and the back courtyard was lovely and serene. It felt like being in the most luxurious of private homes with the efficiency of a finely honed business. The staff absolutely meets up to the high expectation the property sets; they are warm, super efficient and anticipate every need of the guest. At every opportunity, we were greeted enthusiastically without any hovering. We spent an evening in the bar/lounge area having drinks and then a late evening snack and I have never felt as comfortable in any hotel public space. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet which had a high standard of choices and delicious coffee. We were struck also by the really reasonable prices for food, drink and mini bar options; unlike most properties there were no super inflated prices here. Our room (106) was extremely comfortable, only one of two on the ground floor leading out to the back court yard and containing every amenity imaginable. Just an outstanding experience overall and we wished we had stayed an entire week instead of 3 days. This property is worth every euro and then some!

“Luxurious and Unique”

Loved the decor, the location, the bar (including the bar staff), our complimentary drinks on arrival and the free treats on the standard room (strawberries and chocolate). Couldn't say anything bad about the hotel. Will definitely stay again.

“Very Nice..”

Stayed here for our first anniversary and it was a memorable one. I let them know in advance and they made it that little bit more special for the two of us. The advice given of where to go and spend our time, what restaurants to eat at and our room was exceptional. Would love to come back to vist

“Lovely staff, great location”

Stayed 2 nights in April , we stayed in an outside courtyard room with huge bed, steam room and jacuzzi- lovey room . The staff at the hotel where really nice with great knowledge of the area. The hotel is really well situated near canal trips, Anne frank museum and the tulip museum etc. the breakfast is plentiful and coffee is hot. The only reason I haven't given an excellent is one niggling gripe- the hotel is €510 per night plus taxes and at that price I think there should be free bottled water in the rooms- I used the available water in the minibar and whilst it's not at all expensive at €2.50a bottle it's just unreasonable to charge on top of the room cost. Dear Mr and Mrs toren your hotel is great but these little things are off putting.

“Beautiful boutique hotel”

This is a really beautiful hotel with stylish décor throughout. The staff are very helpful and friendly, giving us lots of information about how to get around and nearby areas – good local tips, not basic tourist guidebook stuff. Our room was stunning, we had booked a canal view bedroom and this was well worth the money as we could see out into the city streets which is lovely at night-time with all the lights on, and there were parakeets sitting and singing in the trees lining the canal just across from our window during the day! The four-poster bed had a chandelier light fitting hanging from the centre of it! The room was very comfortable with excellent bathroom facilities including a Jacuzzi bath tub, his & hers sinks, large wet-room shower and Rituals toiletries. Perfect for couples to have a romantic break if you want to spoil yourselves. This was a really good location near to all of the main city-centre destinations, easily linked by canal routes (great way to travel) and also very easy to walk around to restaurants, attractions, museums etc. if you aren’t brave enough to try out bicycles! There is also a nice bar downstairs which we didn't spend much time in at all, but the service was excellent and again, the décor was beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay at the Toren and I could recommend it as a lovely place for adults and couples of stay, perhaps not so suited to younger people or families.
