Best City Boutique Hotel

If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. The Dam is also not far from the hotel. There are a number of interesting places of interest here: Nationaal Monument, De Nieuwe Kerk with its much-discussed exhibitions, and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam.

On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Museums
Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

Shopping
De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Children
Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“Best Hotel we have ever stayed in!!!!”

Not only is this hotel a quaint boutique type hotel with beautiful decorating, but what makes this hotel the "best hotel" my husband and I have ever stayed was the customer service. From the minute we arrived until the minute we left, we were treated as though we were special. From the maid to the bar tenders, to the servers to the front desk staff the customer service was genuine and fantastic. We asked for a canal view upon our arrival, but unfortunately the hotel was booked, however, the staff really tried to accommodate us upon check in and even the next day. Our room was lovely, quiet and extremely comfortable. Unfortunately, for the hotels on the rest of our trip, the bar had been raised so high at The Toren, that we were very disappointed the rest of our stay in Europe. Highly recommend this hotel!!!!

“Wonderful hotel”

This is an absolutely delightful hotel. The staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. We told them what kind of restaurant we felt like each evening and they made a reservation and we really liked their recommendations. Location is excellent situated on one of the most picturesque canals. It is more a boutique type hotel with none of the hustle bustle of the big hotels. We had a minimum rate room that was nice but did not have a view but since we were out most of the time it made no difference. They serve an excellent copious breakfast and have a very nice bar

“Excellent”

Not just a great location but a great hotel as well. Really friendly staff, comfortable bed and rooms , and a really good well served breakfast. We rented a bike directly from the hotel which was very convenient too.

“A great small hotel”

The Toren is very special--it is wonderfully appointed, has a warm and friendly staff, and is the perfect size. Even before we arrived, the staff helped us make dinner reservations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“Nice Hotel with great Location”

Just come back from a 3 day trip to Amsterdam and would like to recommend the Hotel Toren. The reception staff are really helpful and welcoming, and the staff are some of the most polite I have come across. We stayed in the Deluxe Garden View room, and we were advised it had been recently refurbished. The only negative I can give on the room is it didn't come with an ipod docking station as listed, it actually came with a Sony alarm clock with a docking station for a non ipod connection. I recommend this room purely on the fact that during the Autumn/Winter season, people do not use the gardens out the back so it is very peaceful when you wake up/go to bed. The location is perfect. You are about a 3minute walk from the Anne Frank museum, and you are also about a minutes walk from a lovely restaurant called "Black & Blue", which cooks lovely steak/burgers etc (highly recommended). You are also just on the outskirts of all the busy roads, so when you walk back to your hotel it feels like your walking away from the busy city centre. Food wise the Sandwiches they sell at lunch are nice. There breakfasts are good (not great like others have mentioned but is nice). The only negative I can give is we decided to eat dinner here on our first night (we felt like being lazy and wanted to eat in the beautiful ambience of the Toren), and we were advised not to order the burger from the menu, instead recommended to order in a burger via the Hotel. Bit random right? However, we took the advise and asked him to order this in for us. However when it arrived we were really disappointed, it tasted like a kebab shop burger (we found out when we went to pay the bill it came from a pizza delivery outlet). So that was a shame. Checking out was good and again the receptionist here are really friendly and helpful, exactly what you want from a front of house. The only slight negative we had was when we arrived we were offered free cocktails, yet when it came to checking out it was on our bill to pay. However this was rectified and all was fine. If you visit Amsterdam, please stay here, I doubt you will find better. Overall really happy we stayed here, I'm not sure if the hotel can be beaten by any other Amsterdam Hotel.
