Best City Boutique Hotel

If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. The Dam is also not far from the hotel. On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Museums
Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

Shopping
De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Children
Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“Incredible decor and amazing staff!”

My husband and I stayed one night at The Toren and it was the most incredible experience. Located near the Jordaan area it is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the neighbourhood, while also being close to all the major sights of Amsterdam. We stayed in the super deluxe room which was beautiful and featured a double jacuzzi (with a variety of lighting options). The rooms are all themed with matching bedding, curtains and chairs. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the room had everything we needed and more (including a Nespresso machine). The staff were so hospitable, offering assistance with restaurant bookings and looking up public transport routes for days that we were not even going to be at the hotel. The breakfast is also delicious and I would recommend this as an addition to your booking, it has a wide offering, with something for everyone. I wish we could have stayed longer and I definitely recommend a stay here to an visitor to Amsterdam.

“Best Hotel in Europe?”

The hotel can be best described as contemporary Gothic. The walls are opulently decorated with Damask and flocked wall paper. The dining room had a rococo twist with mellow Trance music adding atmosphere. The room was unbelievable, the two person Jacuzzi had different settings and pulsating lights, the shower was monsoon style and did it job all day long. The bed was sumptuous and as soon as my head hit the pillow, one was asleep. However, the best part of this hotel was the staff. We arrived early as wanted to leave bags, they then gave us a complimentary breakfast as we waited for the room which was amazing service. Every and I mean EVERY staff member wished us good morning and Welcome back when we came back in the evening. They really cared and it showed. There is a reason why they are rated so high and that is pure quality service. I give it a 5 all day Son!

“The location is great but the staff are greater.”

I stayed a week in this boutique hotel, perfectly located on the Keizersgracht. The room was comfortable and well equipped. The bar was elegant and Sebastian made me feel very welcome. The front desk staff were excellent - all of them. They were helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the weather was rather wet which meant that on only one day I was able to enjoy sitting in the beautiful small garden. I shall just have to return!

“Perfection and Position”

We stayed in this beautiful hotel for 4 nights. Let me first comment about the staff in reception. The blonde lady is an example of what makes this hotel so good. On arrival she explained that we were in town for the gay pride event which made the area around the hotel busy. She explained the location of the best restaurants and even helped with tram travel requirements. Whenever we had a query nothing was too much. Others have described the hotel and its rooms so I won't repeat that. There are many and varied restaurants around the hotel all within easy walking distance. The hotels position is the best you can get in town. It is close to everything you would wish to see. Personally I would not stay anywhere else in Amsterdam. Have a drink in the bar. The barman is such good fun and you meet many guests from all parts of the world. Wow what fun.
