On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Museums
Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

Shopping
De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Children
Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“Wonderful stay at The Toren!”

This is a beautiful hotel with amazing decor in a fabulous location. The staff and customer service are exceptional. Staff were so welcoming and very helpful. We were really looked after well! We were contacted prior to our visit to make us aware that our room was very small and would this be sufficent or did we want to change? However as only a top price room was available instead we decided to stick with our original booking! We were not disappointed! The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It had a fantastic bathroom / shower! It was plenty big enough for us both! By far the best place we have ever stayed abroad! Amsterdsm is a wonderful city with so much to see and do and the location of the hotel made this easy! A fantastic stay! We would love to come back again!

“Amazing hotel- just book it!”

All that is to be said has already been said elsewhere so to be honest just book it- you won't regret it. Our trip was special to us as we were celebrating our anniversary and the Toren went way beyond our expectations and really looked after us- we couldn't have wished for more! The hotel screams quality and opulence but without being stuffy or pretentious and all staff we engaged with were kind, friendly and helpful. Everyone speaks such good English. I could go on but to summarise it was perfect- so much so that when we got home we started checking availability to come over again- they have 97% occupancy so book early. PS Amsterdam is a beautiful city- yes it has prostitutes and drugs but hey what city doesn't and at least they are being honest and Amsterdam has so much else to offer.

“Lagniappe”

The extra special gift at this special hotel is outstanding customer service! Being in the service ourselves, we love to see when people take the extra steps to take a guest's experience to the next level. Great location and comfortable beds. It was very rainy during our visit so the umbrellas provided came in very handy. We would absolutely stay here again!

“Beautiful Hotel and Location!”

My boyfriend and I recently came back from a weekend break to Amsterdam. We stayed at The Toren hotel, which was a three minute walk from the hotel. The hotel was gorgeous, beautiful interior and such amazing staff. We had a standard double room which included a jacuzzi bath, shower and toilet facilities. The house keeping staff made our room immaculate each day and the food and drinks there were also very good. Expensive - but it is definitely worth all the money. The staff were incredible, they gave us great information about the local sites, marked places on a map for us and gave us a lot of recommendations. They arranged everything we needed. We never used any form of transport other than just walking everywhere, which was nicer than taking the tram or a taxi as we got to see so much. The Anne Frank house was amazing, such a long que but the wait time wasn't too bad, well worth the wait. We also took a boat trip with a company called 'Those Dam Boat Guys!', our guide, Neil (I think thats his name) was very informative, made everyone at ease and was a great guide. He also helped us out with good places to go and eat. I highly recommend downloading the Amsterdam map if you have an iPhone or android phone, it has places of interest around the location and we used it to get to everywhere we needed to go. We would have been completely lost without it!! It's like a mini sat nav. Overall, the trip was amazing and I highly recommend this hotel! Thank-you for all the members of staff at the Toren that made our trip such a wonderful experience.

“Wonderful”

I stayed for one night at the Tower hotel since I proposed my girlfriend earlier that day. I was able to leave my luggage a day earlier and they made sure that my champagne was in the cooler in the room. All in all, very helpful staff and a very nice welcomesletter from the owners of the hotel including the offer of having free cocktails. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was excellent as well.
