Best City Boutique Hotel

If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. The Dam is also not far from the hotel. There are a number of interesting places of interest here: Nationaal Monument, De Nieuwe Kerk with its much-discussed exhibitions, and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam.

On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Museums
Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

Shopping
De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Children
Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“An Oasis of calm”

I really enjoyed my stay here, booked based on TA reviews. Fabulous staff that cannot do enough to help. The decor that compliments the history of the buildings is quite spectacular , for want of a better phrase. Great breakfast. Great bar and drinks. If you smoke, they have a lounge next to the bar - how cool is that in these days of persecution? Beautiful hotel in a convenient location in the city. Can't rate it high enough Thank you Toren

“A very enjoyable place to stay”

The Toren is a little gem. Well situated in the most attractive area of Amsterdam, everywhere was within easy walking distance. Every member of the staff did their utmost to make our stay enjoyable; they have clearly been well trained in customer service. The reception and bar staff in particular, were very friendly and welcoming, and always seemed to have smiles on their faces. We chose Room 107, which has its own indoor jacuzzi and outside private patio. Both were welcome facilities after a long day taking in all the delights of the city. Typical for a building of its age, there are a few creaking floorboards but they were only a minor irritation. We stayed at the hotel for 6 enjoyable night at the hotel, which were are happy to recommend strongly for anyone considering a comfortable, friendly, family-owned establishment in a prime location.

“wow!!!!! ONE OF THE BEST.”

The hotel is just gorgeous. We stayed in room 431 which is a beautifully decorated room looking out to the canal with a king bed, sumptuous linen and pillows. Free wifi, in room tea and coffee facilities, choice of pillows, great room service. Huge deep spa bath in the room to relax in after walking all day. We received strawberries and chocolates in our room upon arrival as well as a voucher for a free cocktail and breakfast. This hotel has all the old world charm with all the mod cons. Very close to centre of the city, very quiet and luxurious. You wont be disappointed.

“Amazing hotel in an amazing city!”

This hotel isdefinitely in the 'special' category. From the moment of arrival we were made to feel special. The hotel is decorated in a wonderful style making you feel a tiny bit decadent! Our room was huge and extremely comfortable. Lots of fluffy towels, a bathroom to die for, fluffy pillows and a huge comfortable bed. As well we had comfy seating, a tv with some English channels, a really good coffee machine and a complete wall of windows overlooking the canal. A very small problem with the tv was corrected immediately. Every query or request for tourist information or transport was answered or arranged quickly and knowledgeably. The staff are all lovely and seem genuinely to want you to have a good stay. We fell in love with Amsterdam and The Toren had a huge part to play in this. We will most definitely return. Thank you Toren family for making our stay so perfect.

“It's no wonder this is the no.1 hotel in Amsterdam !”

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.these are the reasons why: Staff: everyone, from maids, bar staff, waiters and reception are helpful, cheerful and polite.the staff have been well trained to ensure your stay is memorable. Even before we visited, the hotel dealt with emails promptly and efficiently, including making our dinner reservations at Red and Lucius as well as advising us to pre-book are tickets to the Anne Frank house.Special mention to the tall barman/ waiter who showed us to our room and explained all the facilities. We did not get your name as you did not work on Friday and also the Greek waiter for his kind gesture. The room: we stayed in the garden suit (room 403) and this was one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. The bed was so comfortable and even for someone who suffers from a little insomnia, I managed two great nights sleep. The beds are so comfortable and spacious.the room includes a nespresso machine as well as a safe. The jacuzzi:this is available in some rooms and is definitely worth the extra costs. After a day walking round Amsterdam seeing the sights, there is nothing better than a soak in the jacuzzi. Gentleman, your ladies will love this ! Location: it is right in the centre of Amsterdam in the nicest area (Jordaan). It is just around the corner from the Anne Frank house and also the seeAmsterdam canal trips. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and I would recommend both Red and Lucius which are just a short walk away, but avoid Deluwte restaurant which is close. Finally the only bad thing, it is a shame you can't take this hotel with you when you travel. Mr & Mrs Toren , your hotel and your staff should make you very proud.
