Best City Boutique Hotel

If you want to relax for a weekend and also enjoy Amsterdam to the full, then a stay in the luxury The Toren - Hampshire Classic is highly-recommended. The hotel was proclaimed “Best City Boutique Hotel” during the 2012 Boutique Hotel Awards; a prize given for the unprecedented service that guests receive 24 hours a day: from a glass of champagne in the room to recommendations for good restaurants and places of interest in the area.

The Toren – Hampshire Classic is in an exceptionally good location. In a 17th Century canal building on Keizersgracht with Anne Frank Huis, Westerkerk, Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes around the corner. On Keizersgracht with Jordaan around the corner

There is more than enough to see and do to fill an entire weekend in the immediate vicinity of The Toren - Hampshire Classic. The hotel is located on Keizersgracht, a stone’s throw from the convivial Jordaan, Wersterkerk and Westertoren, which features in many tear-jerking folksongs. Tips for great and interesting excursions in the area:

Anne Frank Huis is literally around the corner from the hotel. If you have never been in the Achterhuis, the place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War, then this is the ultimate opportunity. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje on Herengracht is the largest bag museum in the world and has an impressive collection of more than four thousand bags, purses, cases and pouches.

Places of interest
Westerkerk with the world-famous Westertoren is very close to the hotel. You can go in all directions on the Dam for fascinating places of interest. There’s the Nationaal Monument where the Queen lays a wreath every four years on 4 May during the Nationale Dodenherdenking. Here too is De Nieuwe Kerk with its interesting exhibitions and Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam, the official reception palace of the Koninklijk Huis. You’ll find Felix Meritis on Keizersgracht. Apart from being a beautiful, historic building, you can join various lectures, debates, demonstrations and workshops here.

De 9 Straatjes really shouldn’t be missed. In these nine small streets there are unique, beautiful shops and you can also enjoy delicious lunch and dinner here. Other great places for shopping in the area are Magna Plaza shopping centre and De Bijenkorf on the Dam.

Towards Central Station on Oosterdok, you’ll find Science Center Nemo. This interactive museum is great for children who like science and who dare to conduct exciting experiments. In Madame Tussauds on the Dam, you can view celebrities from close quarters and even pose for a photograph with some of the stars.

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

Room service from a fantastic French Head Chef

The Toren – Hampshire Classic doesn’t have its own restaurant but does have extremely close connections with Christophe’ restaurant. The Head Chef of this renowned restaurant on Leliegracht, around the corner from the hotel, is Jean-Joël Bonsens. This Frenchman used to work in the kitchen of the French top restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, and worked for the world-famous Head Chef, Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
What’s special about this cooperation is that you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy Jean-Joël’s cooking. You can place your order via the room service menu and have this served in your room. Should you prefer to dine in the stylish lounge, then that’s possible too. Or you can also book a table in Christophe’ Restaurant itself.

“Terrific Toren”

Great location, wonderful breakfasts and lavishly furnished rooms in magnificent canal side houses. What more could you ask for? Well, how about the most genuinely welcoming and friendly service I think we have ever been lucky enough to experience? On checking in the receptionist could not have been more helpful (or smiley!); in the bar the staff were generous with their knowledge (and the jenever) and whenever we saw or overheard conversations it was clear that the staff here really "get it" when it comes to great service - proper but relaxed, friendly without being over familiar. We can't wait to return to Amsterdam as it's such a fabulous city and when we do we'll be straight back to The Toren.

“Amazing experience! Cannot reccomend enough!❤️”

I booked this hotel as part of a trip for my partners birthday and from the moment we walked in were truly truly looked after by the toren. I had not been to Amsterdam before this but it diddnt matter as I was given a map at reception and told of how to get to anywhere I wanted and recommended places to go/eat Aswel. The room was a treasure and we never needed of anything as the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Mornings were spent relaxing in our room with the room service breakfast in bed and on tap coffee machine, and evenings in the courtyard garden drinking cocktails , I love this hotel and we will defiantly be coming back again!

“Excellent in Every Way”

All the positive reviews are right. The room, the service, the location, the decor, the food were all great. We spent a little extra for a room in the main building with a canal view and it was well worth it. Only downside was some noise from a construction site 2 blocks away. I mentioned it casually when I was checking out and they spontaneously made a substantial reduction in the amount owing, over my (admittedly weak) protestations!

“An extraordinary hotel!”

We stayed a long weekend at the Toren to celebrate our wedding anniversary along with some friends. Prior to our visit we were contacted by the hotel, asking us if there was anything we needed help with. A very nice and helpful e-mail conversation followed and we got all the help we needed with restaurant reservations etc. Upon arrival we were very well welcomed buy the nice staff. The room was impeccable with a beautiful canal view and fresh flowers. The hotel interiors are very beautiful decorated in a both bold and classic style, fresh flowers everywhere. Excellent breakfast and a very nice bar. However, the main asset of the Toren is the staff. Always with a smile, willing to help, proactive, professional in a personal way and a splendid room service. We will come back!

“Can't wait to go back!”

My fiance and I recently returned from our "honeymoon before our wedding" and we had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights at the Toren....and we can't say enough wonderful things about our stay! The staff was us exemplary service at every turn. Our room was stunningly romantic and spotless! And the location was incredible. Loved walking over the bridges lit up at night...and it was wonderfully quiet. The hotel was truly charming....from the fantastic staff to the garden terrace. And we loved winding down after a day of sightseeing in the cozy bar! Really I can't say anything negative...except that we're not still there! If you're looking for a perfect spot that's cozy and on a quiet canal...but minutes from all the major sights, you would be more than happy at the Toren. The next time we're in Amsterdam I won't hesitate to book with them again. Thank you all for your amazing hospitality! You allowed us to see the Amsterdam we had hoped to discover!
