The ideal hotel for a city trip

At Flanders Hotel Brugge – Hampshire Classic you can count on a warm welcome. The hotel is situated at the heart of the historic city of Bruges making it ideal for a city trip. It has fifty elegant, contemporary rooms and many facilities to make the stay even more pleasant, such as a heated swimming pool, beautiful terraces, a historic drawing room and a trendy bar.

Chocolate fans are in their element in Bruges. There are countless chocolate confectioners in the city and even a chocolate museum: Choco-Story. The city also has a lot to offer as far as art and culture are concerned. Many places of interest are within walking distance of Flanders Hotel Brugge - Hampshire Classic. There’s Prinselijk Begijnhof Ten Wijngaard, and Onthaalkerk Onze-Lieve-Vrouw where you can examine art treasures such as Michelangelo’s world famous Madonna and Child.

Bruges open air museum

The historic centre of Bruges is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. When you walk through the city, you imagine yourself in an open air museum. Because there is so much to see and do, you need to make choices. A few tips:

Groeningemuseum gives a rich and fascinating overview of six centuries of Flemish and Belgian art. Works exhibited include those by Jan van Eyck and Marcel Broodthaers. In the Middle Ages, Het Huis van Gruuthuske belonged to the Van Brugghe-van der Aa family. The family had a monopoly on the sale of “gruut”, a herb mix from which beer was made. Gruuthusemuseum is now located in the house and has an interesting collection of art and antiques. At chocolate museum Choco-Story on Sint-Janssstraat, you learn all about chocolate. This starts with the history of the basic material: the cocoa bean. Epicurean Bruges even has its own Frietmuseum. This museum is located in the Saalhalle, one of the oldest buildings in Bruges, and explains the birth and history of friet (chips). And you get to taste them at the end of the tour.

Places of interest
Het Prinselijk Begijnhof Ten Wijngaard with whitewashed façades, tranquil abbey garden and Begijnhofmuseum, was established in 1245. The Sisters of the Order of St.-Benedictus reside there now. Warning: the access gate to the Begijnhof closes at 6:30 p.m. without fail. In Onthaalkerk Onze-Lieve-Vrouw, you can admire many works of art including Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child and the mausoleums of Karel de Stoute and Maria van Bourgondië.

De Toverplaneet is a beautiful, large indoor playground in a former vegetable warehouse, with playground equipment of some 10 metres high. Another fun indoor playground is Speeldorp Brugge, with bouncy castles, obstacle courses, ball pit and slides. Het Boudewijn Seapark has fun attractions such as a water slide, roller coaster and bumper cars. There are also live shows with dolphins, seals and sea lions taking the leading role.

“Great location, excellent rooms! Highly recommended!”

Stayed for the first time and for sure it won't be the last! Fantastic room with loads of space and the hotel location is just awesome. Most places are within walking distance and the hotel has its own style and flavour. Best way to get there from the Brugge train station is via taxi (queue is just outside Brugge train station), roughly 12-15 Euros.

“Highly recommended”

I loved my stay at the Flanders Hotel. I'm not sure if we were just lucky in the room we were assigned but it was fantastic, 20 foot ceilings, with a terrific bathroom upstairs in a lofted duplex set up. Service was attentive, kind, and discreet, and the location was perfect for me. 5 minute walk to the center of everything but removed enough on a quiet street that the tourist crush felt far away. I recommend the Flanders hotel with reservation and would absolutely return if visiting Bruges again.

“Very nice”

Very nice hotel, old building but good interior. Near to the must see places. The hotel has a big parking place. Breakfast is good but a little expensive. The staff is smiling and helpful. You should leave the hotel by 11:00 am, it was a little early i think...

“Special birthday trip”

Spent 2 nights at Flanders with 8 other female friends for a 60th birthday surprise weekend away. Lovely hotel where the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had 3 triple rooms which were spacious and very clean. On arrival on Saturday 29th April around 5pm we asked the lovely young man if he could recommend somewhere to eat. As it was a Belgian holiday weekend he said he could try Restaurant 'T Jong Gerecht which was just 5 minutes walk away so he called to book it for us. What a fabulous restaurant. Food and service were amazing even although when we first saw the menu we couldn't quite understand what we were ordering. It seemed a very limited choice for €39 per head but wow!! What a great 7 course fine dining experience we had with the most friendly fantastic service. We had Belgian sparking wine and also Belgian white wine - both of which were great. Very highly recommended. Breakfast was lovely with a good selection. We did get cocktails and drinks from the hotel bar and again the friendly service was great even although there were 9 of us and had to wait but the barman was sooo lovely. Altogether would definately go back to Flanders as the location is quiet but within easy walking distance of the city centre along beautiful cobbled streets so do take good walking shoes. Beautiful place and great weekend.
