Multifunctional building next to Central Station

The multifunctional Level building is located in the centre of Leiden, right next to Central Station. This architectural tour de force is the site of Hampshire Hotel Fitland – Leiden. Besides 120 comfortable hotel rooms on the tenth and eleventh floors with fantastic views of the city of Leiden, the building also has more to offer, such as two restaurants, a gym and luxury wellness facilities.

The historic city centre is within walking distance of Hampshire Hotel Fitland – Leiden. The hotel is a great starting point for a visit to Leiden’s renowned museums, such as Museum Boerhaave, Naturalis and the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden. But also for a visit to a sidewalk café or the huge range of shops in Breestraat and Haarlemmerstraat. Or would you prefer to head for the North Sea and enjoy the fresh air or the sun? The beaches of Katwijk or Noordwijk are just 10 minutes away.

Historic city centre within walking distance

Lovers of art, culture and typical Leiden entertainment will find Leiden a fascinating city to visit. You can go sightseeing along the canals and historic buildings, visit one of the many interesting museums and join in the famous 3 October Festival. A few tips:

Art and culture

Leiden has no less than four national museums! Such as the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, with its impressive collection of antiquities from Ancient Egypt, the Near East and the Greek and Roman worlds. Museum Boerhaave – also known as the national treasury for 400 years of scientific development – and Naturalis Leiden, the city’s natural history museum.  In the area around Sint Pieterskerk, you can find interesting buildings such as the Burcht, Waag, Hooglandse Kerk and the Leiden city hall.

Beach

From the hotel, you can see the tips of the sand dunes on the North Sea coast. The two seaside resorts of Katwijk and Noordwijk are just 10 minutes away.

Events

The big event that the people of Leiden look forward to every year is the Relief of Leiden on 3 October. There are two days of extensive festivities, with parades, a funfair and lots of white bread and herring to celebrate Leiden’s liberation in 1574 by the Geuzen, a group of Dutch nobles.

Children

The Ethnological Museum (Museum Volkenkunde), Naturalis, Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and Museum Boerhaave are all great places for children to visit. The exhibitions are often very child-friendly and special children's activities are organised for during school vacations. At children's playground De Bubbel Jungle in Leiderdorp, kids can go wild on the trampolines, ball pit and roller track. Tip: check whether there are any nice children’s shows in the two main theatres: Leidse Schouwburg or Stadsgehoorzaal Leiden.

Wining and dining with a view

Top Level
The multifunctional, ultramodern Level building in which the hotel is located would not be complete without a rooftop bar. The 'Top Level' panorama restaurant, bar and lounge is located at the top of the building, on the twelfth floor. The ultimate place to enjoy the phenomenal view of Leiden, the City of Keys, with a cocktail or a glass of champagne in your hand. You can also enjoy a great lunch and dinner here. The restaurant has an extensive à la carte menu with alternating, seasonal dishes.

The Second Level
As the name suggests, The Second Level is on the second floor of the building. At The Second Level you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at a fixed price. And The Second Level has more to offer than a just a good meal for a low, fixed price. With a range of cooking studios, a luxurious lounge, bar and DJ Booth, The Second Level has the capacity to turn every occasion into a great party.

“An amazing hotel with an added bonus of a pool with city view!!”

+ the pool and hot tub was fantastic (pool is free 7:00-10:00 in the morning). After a days long walks a hot tub was he thing I needed :) + The location of the hotel was very good, next to the central train station if you plan short trips to other towns and near a supermarket to buy everything you need if you select not to have breakfast at the hotel. + The room was very spacious, clean, and the staff was very helpful too in whatever I asked. - the temperature of the rooms was too cold without an option to change it... The staff offered me a small heater but the air conditioning was too powerful.

“Good location”

This Hotel is in a good location, right next to the train station. Great for access to the trains for Amsterdam or just a few mins walk into Leidon. We had two rooms to accommodate five of us, one was a family room which was a good size. We didn't like the layout of the bathroom which was not very private and had a sliding glass door over the toilet and shower, and my daughter caught her toe on the glass on the first morning we were there! so not very child friendly. The pool was nice although took us a while to find! and the access was restricted. Gym looked excellent but we didn't have time to use. Restaurant was on the top floor, we had drinks in there on the first night, which was fine. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel as would have been very expensive for the five of us, but there is plenty of places to eat nearby. It would have been nice to have tea making facilities in the room.

“Very Clean and Nice hotel”

Leiden my definition of a perfect town... Almost perfectly divided into the business/university district and the actual small town you fall in love with by the train station. I was staying and working in the business part of the town but almost every evening inevitable I would venture towards the residential area near Brestrass. Fitland is towards the business/University part of the town but is a short walk away from the town center. It is very near to Amsterdam and is only a EUR 10 or 45 min comfortable train ride from there. This is what Europe should be like, small quaint town with warm and fantastic people.

“Strange but very comfortable”

Located on opposite side of railway line to city centre you need a pass from the hotel to pass through the station everytime. The hotel is basically inside what looks like an office block but is infact a building totally dedicated to all things healthy..i.e. a medical centre for Physio..a gym..etc. restraunt on 12th floorvwas good..not too pricey and quality.

Dear Kenmac2256, Thank you for taking the time for writing a review on tripadvisor! The gates of the Station are indeed always closed. Upon check in we will provide our guests with a “passage pass” which they can use during the whole stay. The building where the hotel is located in has a multiple use. There is a School, Rehabilitation Centre and an Office Centre. We are proud off the collaboration between all the users of the beautiful Level Building. We hope we may welcome again with your next visit to Leiden. Kind regards, Daphne Koot Front Office Manager

“Great location, nice hotel.”

The hotel is extremely well located, literally steps away from Leiden's Central Station and city center. The fitness center is excellent, and the breakfast has good value-for-money (be careful not to go to late, as the food can get scarce). The bedrooms are nice with a pleasant view, but the bathroom, is somewhat small and the sliding door that can either close the shower or the toilet is not convenient at all. The restaurant on the 12th floor boasts a good-quality menu with a decent range of choices, but it is a bit expensive. The main reproach I would make is with regards to the swimming pool that is open free to hotel residents from 7am until 10am. Past this time, not only is it necessary to pay, but also swimming suits are no longer allowed, as this is a nudist wellness center. This important point of detail is not at all clearly mentioned on the various websites.

On Tuesday’s you can choose whether you do or don’t want to wear a swimsuit to the Spa the rest of the days it is indeed a “Naked” area.
