Multifunctional building next to Central Station

The multifunctional Level building is located in the centre of Leiden, right next to Central Station. This architectural tour de force is the site of Hampshire Hotel Fitland – Leiden. Besides 120 comfortable hotel rooms on the tenth and eleventh floors with fantastic views of the city of Leiden, the building also has more to offer, such as two restaurants, a gym and luxury wellness facilities.

The historic city centre is within walking distance of Hampshire Hotel Fitland – Leiden. The hotel is a great starting point for a visit to Leiden’s renowned museums, such as Museum Boerhaave, Naturalis and the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden. But also for a visit to a sidewalk café or the huge range of shops in Breestraat and Haarlemmerstraat. Or would you prefer to head for the North Sea and enjoy the fresh air or the sun? The beaches of Katwijk or Noordwijk are just 10 minutes away.

Historic city centre within walking distance

Lovers of art, culture and typical Leiden entertainment will find Leiden a fascinating city to visit. You can go sightseeing along the canals and historic buildings, visit one of the many interesting museums and join in the famous 3 October Festival. A few tips:

Art and culture

Leiden has no less than four national museums! Such as the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, with its impressive collection of antiquities from Ancient Egypt, the Near East and the Greek and Roman worlds. Museum Boerhaave – also known as the national treasury for 400 years of scientific development – and Naturalis Leiden, the city’s natural history museum.  In the area around Sint Pieterskerk, you can find interesting buildings such as the Burcht, Waag, Hooglandse Kerk and the Leiden city hall.

Beach

From the hotel, you can see the tips of the sand dunes on the North Sea coast. The two seaside resorts of Katwijk and Noordwijk are just 10 minutes away.

Events

The big event that the people of Leiden look forward to every year is the Relief of Leiden on 3 October. There are two days of extensive festivities, with parades, a funfair and lots of white bread and herring to celebrate Leiden’s liberation in 1574 by the Geuzen, a group of Dutch nobles.

Children

The Ethnological Museum (Museum Volkenkunde), Naturalis, Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and Museum Boerhaave are all great places for children to visit. The exhibitions are often very child-friendly and special children's activities are organised for during school vacations. At children's playground De Bubbel Jungle in Leiderdorp, kids can go wild on the trampolines, ball pit and roller track. Tip: check whether there are any nice children’s shows in the two main theatres: Leidse Schouwburg or Stadsgehoorzaal Leiden.

Wining and dining with a view

Top Level
The multifunctional, ultramodern Level building in which the hotel is located would not be complete without a rooftop bar. The restaurant has an extensive à la carte menu with alternating, seasonal dishes.

The Second Level
As the name suggests, The Second Level is on the second floor of the building. At The Second Level you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at a fixed price. And The Second Level has more to offer than a just a good meal for a low, fixed price. With a range of cooking studios, a luxurious lounge, bar and DJ Booth, The Second Level has the capacity to turn every occasion into a great party.

“Best hotel design we've ever seen”

We stayed five days in this lovely hotel in Leiden. The rooms and dining areas are beautifully designed to make the most of the space. Gorgeous views over Leiden. Breakfast buffet was great and dinner in the restaurant one evening was good. Service all round was very good. The pool is small but has great views. Spacious gym with free weights. The only down side was the black surface in the bathroom. Whatever it's made of it is just impossible for it to look clean - it is covered in water stains which, while perfectly clean, must drive the cleaning staff mad. Very conveniently located next to the station and a ten minute walk into the old town shopping area.

“Great hotel in Centre of Leiden”

Stayed for 4 nights on business. Checking in was quick. Was given a map of the town and a access card to cross the station on checking in. Nice clean room. Wifi was good. Loads of channels on TV. Breakfast buffet was good. Nice warm indoor swimming pool on top floor available from 7am to 10 am. Would happily stay again

“Billy”

Hotel is conveniently located near the central station and within easy reach of other parts of Leiden (such as the university which we were visiting). The modern styling of the hotel was appealing. The breakfast buffet was excellent.

“Great location but no use for kids”

We stayed here as it was right bedside the train station. We were travelling with a one year old so it was essential we wanted beside the train station so we didn't have to go far with buggies. So the location was amazing, just one turn out of the station and you were there. As other reviews said the hotel is a bit disjointed but we knew that as had read other reviews. Unfortunately we did get a room that we had to change lifts but didn't bother us too much. The room itself was new, clean and fresh although there wasn't a bathroom just separate cubical for the toilet and shower with sliding doors so useless when having a toddler who wanted to explore and she was with in the shower which was wet or putting her hand in the toilet as we couldn't keep her out of both. We didn't eat in the hotel but the restaurant looked lovely. The did have a dip in the pool which again was lovely but fitting with the disjointed theme too many stairs and to get to it you had to go outside which was a bit cold when soaking wet. So I am sure a fine hotel when travelling on your own for business but wouldn't recommend if your traveling with family.
