Hotel in the greenest part of Amsterdam

Hampshire Hotel – Lancaster Amsterdam is in the centre of Amsterdam, in Plantagebuurt, and is an ideal family hotel. This sociable neighbourhood on the east of the city has numerous great cafés and restaurants. Of course you shouldn’t miss a visit to the area’s most well-known attraction: Artis Zoo. With tropical fish in the monumental Aquarium, giraffes, elephants and other small, large, loveable and exciting animals.

There are also various interesting museums in this greenest part of the city. Such as Tropenmuseum with special stories and objects from across the world, Hermitage Amsterdam with it’s impressive exhibitions and Joods Historisch Museum. Also close to Hampshire Hotel – Lancaster Amsterdam is Waterlooplein with it’s legendary flee market. You can relax, exercise or picnic in Oosterpark.

Many great hotspots in the area

There’s not much chance that you’d get bored in this part of Amsterdam: there are simply too many great museums and other hotspots around Hampshire Hotel – Lancaster Amsterdam. You can purchase entrance tickets for various museums in the hotel, which will save you standing in a queue. Tips for great things in the area:

The Scheepvaartmuseum has recently been completely restored. Visit this beautiful building, the East India Company ship and interactive exhibitions about five hundred year’s of maritime history. Changing exhibitions are shown in Hermitage on the Amstel from the sizeable collection of the museum with the same name in Saint Petersburg.  Theater Het Koninklijke Theater Carré is the most coveted stage for artistes. That’s because of the hall itself, which has an unbelievable atmosphere, but also because of the list of legends who have once performed here. If you have the opportunity, watching a show here is highly-recommended.

You only need to cross the road and you’re in Artis Royal Zoo. Artis Royal Zoo is open every Saturday until sunset in June, July and August. There are lots of activities and live music on these summer evenings. In Joods Historisch Museum, the children can visit the Hollander family. They can learn Hebrew and bake a kosher Challah bread. Magic butterflies fly around in Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. Tropenmuseum is expert in getting the children interested in the culture of other nations. Check the programme for special activities.

Oosterpark is a wonderful place to enjoy relaxing, jogging, football or a picnic. Or to visit a festival in the summer, such as Amsterdam Roots Festival or Appelsap.

There’s been a hectic trade in old books, second-hand clothes and bric-a-brac on Waterlooplein for more than a hundred years. Another traditional Amsterdam market is the multi-cultural Dappermarkt in Dapperstraat. Enjoy a Hollandse Nieuwe herring or a delicious kebab.

“Away from the din...”

I was at this hotel recently and I loved about this place is its proximity to some of the best tourist spots - it is mostly a walk away from the Artis Zoo, Hortus Botanicus, Vondelpark and the flea market. Two minutes away from the tram line stop and near to many cafe shops, this hotel offers cozy rooms with an amazing layout for breakfast. Since it is about ten minutes away from the city central, it is away from the day to day din of the city. They have clean rooms, friendly staff and a comfortable coffee lounge where you can choose to have a chat over a coffee or even work.

“Good hotel so close to centre. ”

The hotel is a few minute walk away from nearest tram stop & getting to the centre of Amsterdam is so easy from this hotel. The rooms are nice, there are tea & coffee facilities, a small tv with a few English channels & the beds are comfy. The rooms are not great value for money but you're paying for the location as much as the room.

“10 minutes by tram to the city centre”

A nice hotel, friendly greeting on arrival. Our rooms (110+111) were very clean, very tidy and very comfortable. Not large rooms, but not small either. After all we just want a nice room to come back too at the end of our day. The showers were good, all in all very clean. Can't tell you about the breakfast as we booked room only. Their are several places close by to get good food, " coffee to walk " which is literally next door is a small cafe and the food is nice as is the owner. A bit further up on the corner is another nice cafe (koosje cafe) . The hotel has very good WiFi reception. As do most places near by. The tram stop is a 5 minute walk, and in 10 minutes you can be in the centre of Amsterdam. Better off buying 48 or 72 hour passes depending on your length of stay. I can certainly recommend this hotel. Friendly and quiet.

“Nice break in an upcoming location on the tram route”

🙂 Let us check in early at 11.30ish great! Room faced the gardens at the back of the hotel with a nice view(room 411) with a lovely big window. It's a twin bedded room , pushed together, nice bedding and comfortable beds. Great location in a nice area right opposite the zoo. It's also on the main tramline to Central Station. Tea/coffee/snack and cold drinks machine in reception. Coffee bars nearby. Watch the stairs as the are very small in depth so use the lift instead. 🙁 Downside is the bathroom which is tiny - with a problem trying to use the toilet which is too close to the basin. However, it's clean, tidy and the shower is excellent. Safe in the room, hairdryer, TV. Plug sockets at bedside.
