Hotel in the greenest part of Amsterdam

Hampshire Hotel – Lancaster Amsterdam is in the centre of Amsterdam, in Plantagebuurt, and is an ideal family hotel. This sociable neighbourhood on the east of the city has numerous great cafés and restaurants. Of course you shouldn’t miss a visit to the area’s most well-known attraction: Artis Zoo. With tropical fish in the monumental Aquarium, giraffes, elephants and other small, large, loveable and exciting animals.

There are also various interesting museums in this greenest part of the city. Such as Tropenmuseum with special stories and objects from across the world, Hermitage Amsterdam with it’s impressive exhibitions and Joods Historisch Museum. Also close to Hampshire Hotel – Lancaster Amsterdam is Waterlooplein with it’s legendary flee market. You can relax, exercise or picnic in Oosterpark.

Many great hotspots in the area

There’s not much chance that you’d get bored in this part of Amsterdam: there are simply too many great museums and other hotspots around Hampshire Hotel – Lancaster Amsterdam. You can purchase entrance tickets for various museums in the hotel, which will save you standing in a queue. Tips for great things in the area:

Museums
The Scheepvaartmuseum has recently been completely restored. Visit this beautiful building, the East India Company ship and interactive exhibitions about five hundred year’s of maritime history. Changing exhibitions are shown in Hermitage on the Amstel from the sizeable collection of the museum with the same name in Saint Petersburg.  Theater Het Koninklijke Theater Carré is the most coveted stage for artistes. That’s because of the hall itself, which has an unbelievable atmosphere, but also because of the list of legends who have once performed here. If you have the opportunity, watching a show here is highly-recommended.

Children
You only need to cross the road and you’re in Artis Royal Zoo. Artis Royal Zoo is open every Saturday until sunset in June, July and August. There are lots of activities and live music on these summer evenings. In Joods Historisch Museum, the children can visit the Hollander family. They can learn Hebrew and bake a kosher Challah bread. Magic butterflies fly around in Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. Tropenmuseum is expert in getting the children interested in the culture of other nations. Check the programme for special activities.

Park
Oosterpark is a wonderful place to enjoy relaxing, jogging, football or a picnic. Or to visit a festival in the summer, such as Amsterdam Roots Festival or Appelsap.

Market
There’s been a hectic trade in old books, second-hand clothes and bric-a-brac on Waterlooplein for more than a hundred years. Another traditional Amsterdam market is the multi-cultural Dappermarkt in Dapperstraat. Enjoy a Hollandse Nieuwe herring or a delicious kebab.

“Nice hotel”

On arrival staff were nice and helpful, reception area is nice as you get some free coffee etc in the mornings or evenings which is a nice touch to the place. My partner and I both agreed the rooms were lovely and quite clean however on the small side so expect to be jumping over bags if there's more than one person and one suitcase, but it's Amsterdam most buildings are like that. Great location if on holidays so close to trams and walk to the centre is less than 15 mins. Would recommend this place to anyone that's not bothered about the looks of a hotel etc as we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel. Lovely stay.

“Decent hotel in a great area”

Stayed here for two nights with a big group for a mates stag doo. The hotel ain't the most pretty looking, looks like half of it has been knocked down. Had a bit of a Dutch fawlty towers vibe to it as we checked in. The hotel inside is actually quite decent. Our room was quite big with even 3 of us in it. Ultra clean and perfect base for getting around the city. There was a tram stop less than a minute up the road. Staff were all excellent. Free coffee in the reception area as well. The hotel sits in the Artis district of town, which has a small zoo opposite the road. The first night we had our windows open, I was awoken at one point to the sound of the resident howler monkeys sounding off in the morning, quite cool actually. Highest praise would be that I would stay again if visiting the city.

“very nice Hotel”

Staff friendly , room good clean , bright , Tram station near by , can walk everywhere . I am very happy with my stay. There were 7 of us so we had 2 rooms. I have read review from others and said the room is small but ours is ok not big but is fine for 4 sharing . The only thing is the bed is very soft I didn't like it . We have taxi order by the hotel and just be-wear that they will bring you on a longer journey so you end up pay more which I was not happy .

Dear Sir, Madam, thank you for writing your review and thank you for staying with us. I am sorry to hear about the the taxi. In order to avoid these incidents with taxi drivers we only work with the certified taxi operator from Amsterdam. I am surprised and disappointed that you experienced this longer journey with them but thank you for informing us. Kind regards, Hans

“Very nice hotel for a short holiday”

Great hotel for your money in a nice area with good transport connections to it. The staff were friendly and the hotel has great facilities available however i did consider the laundry service to be overpriced. All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a short stay in Amsterdam.

“Did the job!”

As commen turists, my wife and I only needed a place to sleep and having breakfast. This hotel was quite cheap and frankly I did not expect very much of it. But the staff was all very helpful and the breakfast was nice and kept fresh all morning. The hotel is located in walking distance from the city center and the Artis zoo and verzertmuseum just around the corner are both must-see attractions!
