Right on Rembrandtplein!

Are you ready for Amsterdam? At Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square on the famous Rembrandtplein, everything Amsterdam has to offer is on your doorstep. The ideal starting point for a day visiting museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the Hermitage), wandering over Waterlooplein, cycling through the seventeenth century city centre, sailing through the canals, sitting at one of the pavement cafes on Rembrandtplein and visiting trendy local bars and clubs.

Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam is home to a little piece of Paris: Brasserie FLO Amsterdam. Step inside Brasserie FLO and you enter an authentic Parisian brasserie. Here you can enjoy an exquisite lunch or dinner in an authentic French atmosphere. Crisp white table linen, good wine and brasserie classics like steak tartare and côte de boeuf on the menu: everything is as it should be here. From your luxury hotel room, you can even order room service directly from Brasserie FLO.

Numerous possibilities for a great day out in Amsterdam.

Location, location, location. No problems in that respect at Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square. Near the hotel, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a day out in Amsterdam: museums, exhibitions, historic sites, theatres and kids activities. A few suggestions:

Theatre and film
Anyone who loves art and cabaret will study the programme of De Kleine Komedie, the oldest theatre in Amsterdam (1786). Koninklijk Theater Carré is certainly worth a visit, if only to view the interior of this beautiful theatre. Pathé Tuschinski cinema is another lovely historic building. All the big blockbusters can be viewed here on the big screen. All movies are in original spoken language and are Dutch subtitled.

Museums
The Hermitage Amsterdam presents various exhibitions from the collection from the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia. Museum Het Rembrandthuis on Jodenbreestraat is located in the house where Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. You will regularly find interesting exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam. Fans of photography should certainly visit the FOAM Photography Museum on the Keizersgracht.

Market
You can buy flowers, bulbs, plants and souvenirs on the floating flower market on Singel. There is a famous flea market on Waterlooplein near the Stopera.

Children
Sailing through the canals is fun for young and old alike. Step onto a tour boat, rent a boat or take the whole family on a pedalo. Young scientists make exciting discoveries at the Science Centre NEMO. A visit to the fantastic Artis zoo is a joy for everyone. One of the highlights of the oldest zoo in the Netherlands are the tropical fish in the huge Aquarium.

“I would rate it 3*”

This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel and priced accordingly. Room standard, maintenance below expectations on various counts, lighting in the room so poor I could not read, only in a certain spot. No restaurant in the hotel, only a so called French Bistro where one can DINE, not EAT a straight forward dinner. There is a joining 3 star hotel same ownership, same location but a different postal address that gives same service for lower price. My mistake, for which I payed.

“Location is good. Noise is bad.”

First room I was given #107 was a room from hell. Fronting the street which is close to Rembrandt Square is very noisy. The tram is tolerable, but the noisy and drunk revelers, till around 3am made sleep impossible. The hotel was full, so no room change was available until the 3rd day, when relief arrived in the form of a room on the 5th floor in the back. It was QUIET.

“Better than expected”

The hotel does not look like much from the outside and also the lobby feels quite bland. However, the rooms were comfy (even if not huge) and the bed a dream (I love them cozy). The modern modular build-in transparent bath room worked well for us (though a bit small). Great breakfast buffet (loved the fresh berries) that is constantly refilled. Very curteous service throughout. Even though it is a non-smoking hotel we initially were given a (former) smoking room that smelled terrible, but were traded into a propoer non-smoking room no problem. Good location off Rembrandt Square. Get a room to the rear, which have no view but are very quiet!

“Weekend stay with friends”

Good location for a city trip to Groningen close to and not in the centre. Further a good starting point for a bike tour. Reception and staff very helpful in providing information, making arrangements and assisting in parking our cars. Rooms are relativeley small but OK and with a perfect view on the city. Breakfast is very good and further is coffee and tea the whole day avaliable for free.
