A hotel where everything’s just right

Hampshire Hotel - ‘t Hof van Gelre is such a hotel, where guests return time after time. Because everything’s just right here. The surroundings are beautiful, the service is personal and the food is of high culinary quality. The hotel’s central location in Gelderse Lochem is ideal, and the great Hanze cities of Zutphen and Deventer are close by. There’s also an extensive network of cycle routes right on the doorstep.

There are possibilities enough for exertion followed by wonderful relaxation in and around Hampshire Hotel - ‘t Hof van Gelre. The forests in the area are perfect for a brisk walk or cycle ride. You’ll immediately be able to explore the Achterhoek’s renowned country estates and castles or visit a cheese farm or vineyard in the neighbourhood. You can take a breather in the hotel itself; in the heated indoor swimming pool, on one of the (covered) terraces and in the lounge.

Beautiful, inviting surroundings

The forest environment of Hampshire Hotel - ‘t Hof van Gelre is of course a direct invitation for you to jump on your bike or put on your walking shoes and explore the bocage landscape of the Achterhoek. You’ll encounter extensive forests and fields, sand paths, age-old castles, historic towns and picturesque villages. More tips:

Heritage and history
There’s a permanent exposition in the attic of Museumboerderij Erve Brooks Niehof: Border country inside out. In the Kristalmuseum in Borculo you can discover the history of the earth. There’s culture and history in Diepenheim town, with castles, a church from 1679 and a water mill from the twelfth century. Various castles in the area have opened their gardens to the public and various country estates are also open to the public.

Golf en Countryclub De Graafschap has one of the most beautiful 18-hole golf courses in the Netherlands. The club is just 4 kilometres from the hotel. Somewhat further away is Golfclub ‘t Lohr in Voorst, with an extremely accessible, beautifully-situated 18-hole golf course.

Get lost in De Doolhof van Ruurlo, a maze created around 1891 and entirely restored in 1984. As far as surface area is concerned, this is the largest maze in the Netherlands. For indoor, outdoor, water and golfing fun for the whole family you can visit Mega Pret, just outside Lievelde. The largest amusement park in the Achterhoek is in Braamt and is called Het Land van Jan Klaassen. For the younger children, there is Kinderboerderij Dondertman in Lochem.

To enjoy the Achterhoek atmosphere to the full you shouldn’t miss Mecha Tractor Pulling Lochem, the event of the year for real men and women. Of a completely different order is Nationale Jammarkt in Neede, where every year, true to tradition, a new jam Queen is crowned.

Culinary creations with an Achterhoek twist

Restaurant ’t Hof van Gelre
This is the address for a high-quality culinary evening from Head Chef Wim Holmer and his team. The evening starts with an aperitif by the open fire. At your table, you can then enjoy various culinary creations. Creations that often have an Achterhoek twist because the kitchen works with traditional local produce as much as possible. And there is advice on which wines to choose to accompany each dish.
Here is a small selection of what’s on the menu: lasagne with layers of smoked fish and a fried quail’s egg; bavarois of farmer’s goat’s cheese on a nut salad with honey dressing, Twente farmer’s ham with Galia melon and roasted pine nuts; poached cod with anchovy fillet and an orange butter sauce; home-made Hof van Gelre hamburger with truffle jus and French fries, served with home-made mayonnaise. Enjoy!

“Nice Cosy Hotel”

Stayed at this hotel for the third time when visiting our head office, the food was good, European cup semi final on the TV, pool table and a very nice location. The staff were very helpful, the only slight downside was I was told I had been upgraded to a double room which was just two singles pushed together. All in all a very nice experience.

“Quaint, step back in time”

If you are from North America - this hotel will satisfy your urge to be in that idyllic little setting in that little European town which is distinctly Dutch. The polite greetings in the morning from staff members arriving on bicycle, the expansive lower floor with bar, dining rooms and décor that can help you pretend you are back in the late 40's. But - it is clean and modern and different. Lochem is just a great little village and this hotel is a surprise. I found myself pondering "What must this place have been like many years ago" and I am convinced it was very well to do and affluent, while also being in occupied territory under a lot of stress. There is so much to think of in this town and the people are simply wonderful. The rooms are clean, the staircase and elevators are curious and the staff are polite and warm.

“Friendly staf, onze-persoon gedroom was tiny”

I did not spend much time at the hotel. I arrived late and departement directory after breakfast. There was a probleem with the booking (not at fault of the hotel) which was adequately resolved. The hotel staf is very friendly and helpfull. The 1 persoon rooms I had was realtime small unfortunate.

“Nice casino hotel with spacious, clean rooms in a nice setting”

Hampshire hotel 't Hof van Gelre is a nice hotel with nice, clean rooms and very comfortable beds, free wifi everywhere, indoor swimming pool, very good breakfast. They also have a good restaurant but we did not use it as we went outside for dinner. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient as it is only a 10 min. walk to downtown. I certainly would recommend this hotel!

“Rest in a wonderful part of the country”

I returned to a place of my youth, then directed by Mr Paul Finster now by his grandson. Trees and a spacious garden across the road make for good surroundings, a subset as it were of the countryside around this lovely little town. The hotel and our room had al we needed yet looks a little tired and gloomy. As we were enjoying good weather, the terrace and outdoors dining made more than up for it. The guests were mostly retired couples. Good food and welcoming service. We will be back.
