Meet a roe deer or badger in the forest!

From Hampshire Boshotel – Overberg you can just walk into the Nationaal Park Utrechtse Heuvelrug. This hilly area runs from the Grebbeberg near Rhenen to the Gooimeer near Huizen and contains woods, heathland, sand drifts and grassland. It’s very likely that you’ll come across roe deer, foxes, badgers, rare pine martins and unique birds during your walk. Prefer the city? You can be in Arnhem or Utrecht within a half hour drive. A few tips about the surroundings:

Museums
Kasteel Amerongen was built 700 years ago, commissioned by the brothers Henric and Diederic Borre. Today, the castle is a museum with its own collection of art and antiques. In the Militaire Luchtvaart Museum in Soesterberg there are interesting exhibitions about flying and aircraft throughout the year. Prefer trains? Then the Spoorwegmuseum in Utrecht is highly recommended. For a broader subject, namely the history of the Netherlands, you can visit the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum in Arnhem. The “inhabitants” of the museum tell you special stories about daily life in days gone by.

Theatre
All big theatre performances that tour the country appear on the stage at Theater De Lampegiet in Veenendaal. Check the programme and book your seat in time.

Children
In the Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen more is possible than just looking at special animals. Children can also take part in treasure hunts and experience adventures with real adventurers. To cool off when the mercury reaches high summer temperatures, try the Henschotermeer natural swimming pool. At Pyramide van Austerlitz the children can play in the playground, bump into each other in bumper cars and take a turn on the carousel.

Golf
The Golfclub Anderstein golf course in Maarsbergen offers more than enough challenges. There are no fewer than 27 holes to play on this beautiful course, situated partly in the Gelderse Vallei and partly on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.

Restaurant Boshotel Overberg
The serenity of the immediate surroundings of Hampshire Boshotel – Overberg is also found in the restaurant. From here you have a view of the forest. The open kitchen and crackling open fire also give the restaurant a special ambiance. The kitchen has a French-Dutch orientation and uses only organic produce, including those from the “green” butcher, Ton Molenaar in Amersfoort. You can visit the restaurant the whole day for breakfast, lunch or dinner or for a a quick snack.

Brasserie De Holle Boom
Brasserie De Holle Boom is right next to the hotel. It’s highly recommended that you take a bite to eat here; the décor is truly unique. The brasserie is situated in a farm dating from 1886. And there’s a lot on offer: from an intimate à-la-carte dinner for two to a buffet or barbecue for a large group.

“design in a green surrounding”

a very special designed hotel, fits right in the surrounding forest. the room we had had the bathtub in it which kinda moisterizes the air inside, not the best idea. toilet and shower were covered by one sliding door so one of them is always exposed. the position of bed and tub was skew and felt quita akward. the rental bikes were great, new quality stuff!

“Four stars but less”

It is a hotel is killing by design. Room, everything inside. Nice for view but not too much comfortable. The light is poor, the mega glass door is too heavy too move after shower, when you are wet. The wardrove is small to let have a view over it thr mirror. One of the day, the shower had to be with cold water. The hotel is in a quite area, but the noise from the rest of the rooms, and specially from the similar glass door is annoying. Elevator seems is taking away when you use it, almost the noise. Reception needs some maintenance, leak in the middle of it is not for a luxury hotel. Breakfast is good but limited, except the coffe..... The distance from parking to reception, without protection, is not for Netherlsnds, where the rain is not rare. Summarizing, acceptable hotel but not in line with showed category and payed price. There is better selection sorounding area.

“Nice hotel, perfect location i beautiful environment”

Nice hotel, friendly service, good breakfast, comfortable beds, perfect location for cycling or hiking. The restaurant in the annex is quite good. Via Groupon you can sometimes book 1 night + a 4-course dinner (2 persons) for 99 euro; we did the same but booked directly at the hotel. The rooms are comfortable but decoration could be more fancy (the view on the wood compensates for this). Sauna and turkish steambath are included.

“Beautiful place, very friendly staff”

We visited this place with a Groupon (special deal). Sometimes you experience this in the service you get; though not at this place. On top of the beautiful location, comfortsble rooms and delicious diner, the staff was extremely helpful and supportive; really making an effort to give us local advice etc.

“Peaceful place”

Definitely a peaceful place (September) - with very friendly and always available staff. The rooms were excellent as far as cleanliness is concerned. The layout of the room is quite different - the bathroom is almost out in the "open" and the door for the shower and the toilet is sliding door. Other than that, we like the room. Location is in a remote place. You will have to drive 15 min to get to the next town. Utrecht is 30 minutes drive or by train and Amsterdam is about an hour away. Breakfast is excellent - we enjoyed the scrambled egg a lot. Parking is free. The Sauna, steam bath did helped us relax after a day of walking. Definitely recommended.
