For an enjoyable city and beach weekend break

Those wanting to explore The Hague for a weekend, a stay in Hampshire Hotel - 108 Meerdervoort is a good choice. The heart of The Hague is easy to reach from the hotel, both on foot or by bike as well as by public transport. The same goes for the Scheveningen and Kijkduin beach. This means you can shop and visit museums the whole weekend but also get a breath of fresh air or sunbathe on the beach.

Art and culture
You can learn everything about the city’s history in the Historical Museum of The Hague. For works by the great masters, you can visit the Mauritshuis. This impressive collection comprises well-known works by artists such as Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn and Jan Steen. The Mauritshuis is being re-built until mid-2014 and has relocated temporarily to the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. This museum is also well worth a visit, because it has the largest collection of Mondriaans in the world. View the largest painting in the Netherlands at Panorama Mesdag.

Experience the city through the eyes of a local ‘Hagenees’ and take a free guided tour with a personal volunteer. The Hague Greeters comprises approximately 70 volunteers who would like you to get to know their beloved city. The Hague tourist office also offers various city walks, with or without guide.

The Hague city centre is fantastic for shopping. Shopping streets Denneweg and Frederikstraat have chique shops, with large department stores available on Grote Marktstraat. Visit the Venestraat, Spuistraat, Haagsche Bluf and Passage for trendy shops. For the latest fashion, interior, eating and drinking trends visit Prinsestraat and Hofkwartier.

Omniversum is fun and educational; you can watch spectacular films on an IMAX screen as large as half a football pitch. Madurodam has been a family favourite for years. It was 60 years old in 2012, and to mark this has been completely modernised and given a new look.

Chocolate fondue or drinks: it’s all possible

The Hampshire Hotel - 108 Meerdervoort breakfast restaurant serves an extensive and healthy breakfast buffet. Next to the breakfast restaurant is the stylish bar/lounge, where you can enjoy appetizers and drinks, or chocolate fondue with a glass of champagne. Newspapers and magazines are available at the reading table. And in the winter you can enjoy the crackle of the open fire.

Dine in one of the best restaurants, either in the heart of the city or close to the hotel. The cosy CiaoCiao restaurant, for example, is just two minutes walk.

“January in The Hague”

Clean, comfortable and friendly. The staff could not have been more helpful, suggesting places to eat and always greeted us with a smile. Very good value for money - we will stay again when in the area.

“Hidden location”

We had a good stay in this place. Question is if this is really a 4star hotel. First i was bit shocked by the price of the small parking lot : but prices of public parking lots in the Netherlands are crazy. Never take a drink in the bar The prices are even more crazy then the parking lot. Positive : clean , quiet Breakfast was normal .. Oh yes the reception person was ok

“Comfortable Hotel in Den Haag”

It has nice beds and bathtubs. Breakfast is also well. A liitle far from central station but you also could reach the sightseeing spot by bus or tram. Restaurants and convenient stores are also not so far.

“Location and accessibility”

The location of this hotel is the main selling point. Combined with affordable price - what else can you wish for? Well, one or two things might be improved to make it even better. Location: 15min walk to center, on a busy, but somehow a quiet street. There are two tram lines nearby, one of which brings you to the railway station in 10min! The Peace Palace is near, so convenient. Scheveningen and its beautiful beach are another 15min tram ride away. Albert Hijn nearby, as well as some nice eateries Room: My room was on 4th floor, overlooking the backside and the hotel parking. Nice and spacious room, with almost everything you can wish for - comfy bed, working desk (the WiFi was free and good), TV, large wardrobe, good bath. However no AC, which in a hot day can be really a problem. I happened to enjoy the last sunny September days with more than 20C and it got really hot inside. The windows do not open so at times I felt uncomfortable. No minibar (at least in the comfortable type of rooms), but kettle and tea nonetheless. A note - the walls are either thin or the dutch are really noisy, because I could hear my next door neighbors. Also, one of the days some people from one of the houses across the parking lot were throwing a party and I enjoyed their "singing and laughing" till past midnight. Slightly worn-down walls and carpets, so the hotel can make use of a renovation. Amenities: I did not try the buffet breakfast, which I believe can be ordered for 12.50eur pp/pday. The hotel offers bike hire, which was also reasonable, as well as limited parking. They have a computer downstairs. However no possibility to print, which can be a problem if you need something urgent and last minute. I think they have a meeting room, so they should invest in a printer for business clients. Staff: The reception staff was polite and smiled all the time. They really try to make you feel welcome. Housekeeping might better their vacuum cleaning though. Overall, a "gezellig" hotel. I am quite satisfied with my stay in the Hampshire - Meerdervoort 108 Den Haag. For the right price, I would not hesitate to use it again. Hopefully with less noise and a little sea breeze.
