The city of Willem van Oranje and Delfts Blauw

All places of interest in the old city centre of Delft are close to each other, making them easy to explore on foot. You can’t help but come across historic places and buildings, such as Nieuwe Kerk, the place where Willem van Oranje is buried, Het Prinsenhof, the place where Willem van Oranje was murdered and Oude Kerk. More tips:

At the centre; Vermeercentrum, next to Nieuwe Kerk, you’ll discover everything about the life of Johannes Vermeer. The centre was built on the same spot as where the home of the world-famous painter used to be. In Museum Het Prinsenhof you can see the exact place where Willem van Oranje was murdered by Balthazar Gerards on 10 July 1584. Delft is inextricably linked with Delfts Blauw. In the Royal Delft Koninklijke Porcelyne Fles you can see how the pottery is made. Through tests and research, Science Center Delft shows you what students at the University  are doing.

There are various nature reserves and sanctuaries in the direct surroundings of the hotel, such as Bieslandse Polder and Vlietlanden. De Delfste Hout recreation and nature reserve is the place for hiking, cycling and numerous outdoor activities.

Children from nine years and onwards can search for a Secret Chest (Geheim Kistje) in Museum Het Prinsenhof. In a playful way they get to know more about the life and death of Willem van Oranje. Older and younger children can live it up on the play equipment in the indoor play paradise, Kids Playground. In Theater de Veste there are regular great children’s performances on the programme.

Dining with live music and a fantastic view

Restaurant Swing
This restaurant’s menu has exclusively French-Dutch dishes on the menu and only uses daily fresh products. On the menu you will find a variety of A La Carte dishes as well as set menu's, with or without a wine tasting menu. The restaurant lives up to its name every Tuesday and Thursday evening, when there's live music. Another special detail to mention is the unique vieuw from the restaurant across the centre of Delft.

“Great hotel in a great city”

Hampshire hotel met all of my needs as a guest and the restaurant was superb. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My only tip - if you're a tea drinker take some extra tea bags. Most of those available are herbal brews.

“Staying at Delft Centre for a short businnes trip”

I stayed at Delft Centre just a few days, while travelling for work along with several colleagues. The impression was very good, nothing missing in particular and a very good staying in many respects (first of all, the most important ones, which are those we had time to experience.Just a note of fun and pleasure, the availability of a piano tail in the lounge, which a colleague/friend played for us one night after an especially hard working day. Nice!

“Modern hotel in a great location”

This is a modern hotel on the edge of Delft old town which means it is easy to walk into the centre of town in about 5 minutes. The hotel has a jazz and music theme and live music events are held in the lounge area. The hotel is one of the larger hotels in the area so you may find you are sharing it with tour groups. The public areas including the dining /breakfast room are not that large and tables are squeezed in so pick your time if you want to avoid feeling you are being rushed. The breakfast buffet was good and the staff very helpful and they cleared very quickly except on the Sunday when they just stood around until Lin Li came on duty when she went through the backlog of uncleared tables single handed. The accessible room on level 2 was a good-sized room but the bathroom was a bit tight. The shower had a free-standing seat so you had to be able to get out of a wheelchair and across to the seat but it worked well for me. Most impressed that they had a floor level emergency cord around the entire bathroom. The sound proofing, internal and external was excellent, we never heard anyone else and the hotel was full and there was a jazz night in the bar on the Saturday evening. The staff were very helpful and the bar snacks excellent. We travelled by train but if you come by car I believe car parking can be difficult as the car park around the hotel is owned by the local council and is used during the day as a drop off and pick up point for coach tours visiting the city. It was not until we were waiting for our taxi on the Sunday that we discovered that there is a full set of outside exercise equipment provided for people to use. Until then the car park had always been full of people waiting for their coach that it was hidden as is the sitting out area. In all a good clean modern hotel in an excellent location.
