Enjoy a weekend in Antwerp

Many interesting places of interest and trendy cafés, restaurants and shops are just a short walk from Hampshire Hotel - O Sud Antwerpen. There’s loads to do on Leopold de Waelplaats. So you don’t even need to leave the district. But here are a few great tips both in as well as outside Het Zuid:

The beating heart of Het Zuid is Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen, KMSKA. The city’s most famous museum has its own unique collection, with works from Belgian and Southern Dutch artists such as Rubens, Ensor and Fouquet. The museum is closed until 2017 due to large-scale renovation. Until this time, the expositions are given in various annexes. Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen, MHKA, is also well worth the visit. Another interesting, but less known museum is FotoMuseum Provincie Antwerpen, FoMu, with its own collection about the historic development of photography, changing photographic exhibitions and exhibitions from much-discussed photographers.

Places of interest
The beautiful Synagoge Shomré Hadass is just behind the KMSKA, a hidden gem in Het Zuid. This old Jewish synagogue is also called Hollandse Synagoge because it was built by Jewish immigrants from the north of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. A must for lovers of modern architecture is Antwerpse Justitiepaleis, also known as “Vlinderpaleis” and “Frietzakskes.”

Zoo Antwerpen was established in 1843, which makes it one of the oldest zoos in Europe. You can view no fewer than five thousand animals here in a beautiful environment in the heart of Antwerp. Visit Aquatopia to dive into an exciting underwater world, including sharks; also in the heart of Antwerp.

Delicious dining in a fantastic ambiance

They have a wide selection, so there’s sure to be something for you.

“A good weekend”

The ideal room for 3, with very comfortable beds, with 2 flat TVs. Attractive design. Very clean. Correct breakfast with natural orange juice. Friendly staff. The only thing they should improve is that the door to the toilet and entrance into the room were dilated and scratched on the floor, being difficult to move them.

“An acquired taste (you better like black)”

This hotel is truly unusual, and you may like it or not - it is kind of an experience. It already started when the service person at the lobby offered "I'll come with you and explain the room", which is nothing I usually would require as I travel a lot and have stayed in numerous hotels worldwide. Exiting the elevator we stepped into a black-painted hallway, with the only light being 2-3 m tall colorful backlit pictures, which turned out to be the doors to the rooms (yes, there are room numbers as well, but difficult to find). The door to my room was very heavy and a little jammed, and could only be closed by smashing it being quite noisy for the rooms around me. The room also had black walls/floor/ceiling, with tall windows towards the main road, which could be closed by automatic blinds, however, those were only working partially. The bath tub (more a large jacuzzi) was in the middle of the room and not in a separate bath room, which was a bit difficult on the day the blinds did not close, as then you had no shelter against the views from the street... The interior was very stylish, with modern furniture and large mirrors. Plugs and switches were difficult to find (therefore the explanation of the room), and partly not placed conveniently (e.g. the main light switch was not next to the entrance door but a little bit inside into the room and difficult to find at night, being black on a black wall...). There was a good coffee machine inside the room, and the bed was one of the best hotel beds I ever had, so I slept very well. Breakfast was of good quality, however, was also served in a black-painted room being lit by a red neon light "Aren't we all Sinners?" which I found a bit depressing for early mornings. The hotel does not have a parking garage, but there is a free parking space quite close by (but better take a map - I had at first parked in a street nearby where one could not take the direct way to the parking place, and it was quite difficult to find back to the hotel as there are many one-way streets and roundabouts). The location is nice, there are restaurants nearby, and it is easy to walk to the city center (takes around 15-20 minutes). If you like unusual and stylish design, if you are potentially more an evening than a morning person, you may like it very much. If not: maybe there are better choices.

“Neighborhood is really cool”

Hotel O Sud is old building with modern decor, I stayed in a suite, very spacious with sofa bed and table for 4 people. The bed we slept in was comfortable and spacious, There is a whirlpool tub and a toilet. In the room you have wifi i two tv screens. What I least less like small traces of white paint on the wall on the wooden floor.
