Trendy hotel with luxury rooms and trendy lounge bar

The Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam is situated in a unique building in Amsterdam-Oost: the former Burgerziekenhuis (hospital). This historic building on the Linnaeusstraat was renovated in 2011 into a trendy hotel with luxury rooms and its own Italian restaurant, Enoteca. The hotel is easy to reach by car or public transport. And by tram, bus or bike, you’ll be right in the centre of the city in 7 minutes.

Enoteca’s terrace is a great place. You can enjoy sitting in the sun with a perfect view and delicious drinks and snacks on the table. Feel like doing something? You can take a walk in Oosterpark, go to the Dappermarkt or hire a bicycle to visit a museum in the area. Hermitage Amsterdam, Science Center NEMO, Tropenmuseum and the Joods Historisch Museum are all close by. As is the biggest attraction of Amsterdam-Oost: Artis Zoo.

In the middle of up-and-coming Amsterdam-Oost

The Hampshire Hotel - The Manor Amsterdam is in the middle of Amsterdam-Oost, the up-and-coming city district. In recent years many great restaurants, cafés and other hotspots have arrived. You can walk easily to Oosterpark from the hotel, where there are regular festivals and other events. The multi-cultural Dappermarkt is also within walking distance. You can also, of course, hire a bicycle to explore the area. A few tips:

Art and culture
In the 17th Century Huize Frankendael there are regular exhibitions, each with its own programme of lectures, debates and sometimes also concerts. You can also take a peaceful walk in the adjacent Park Frankendael, with stylish garden and landscaped garden, a sunny meadow and marsh. The Tropenmuseum tells you all about the daily lives of people from other cultures. At Hermitage Amsterdam, there are impressive art exhibitions. In the Joods Historisch Museum you can learn all about Jewish culture, religion and history.

The Pure Markt comes regularly to Park Frankendael. As well as delicious food and drink, there is theatre, music and a merry-go-round on this market. Great for the entire family. The famous flea market on Waterlooplein is real old-Amsterdam. For herring or a kebab you can visit the lively, multi-cultural Dappermarkt.

Great and educational is Science Center NEMO at Oosterdok. Further on, by the beautiful Scheepvaartmuseum, is a replica of the East India Company ship, Amsterdam.

All the locals, with or without children, visit to Artis regularly to see monkeys and gaze endlessly at the tropical fish in the Aquarium.

“Great hotel with nice rooms ”

I've chosen this hotel for the bday of my boyfriend and they nicely decorated the room with some balloons. The hey even wrote a bday card by hand, which was very kind! The room (suite) was very spacious and beautiful. However you see that's already a bit older as mostly in the bathroom there were clear signs of usage at the food, shower etc. the shower is a bit tricky as water gets easily on the floor when a taller person showers (e.g. my BF is 1.83m). As it has 4* we expected a bit a higher standard. The service was very nice and the breakfast buffet good. We also liked the location near to the park and not too central. However you have a tram right in front of the hotel and can reach the center in 10-15 min.

“Nice Hotel”

I liked this hotel. I stayed in two different hotels during my time in Amsterdam and this one was the first one. The location was pretty good. I walked about 40-45 minutes each way into the Old Town section and back, but the hotel is right by the train, so you can do that if you don't want to walk. The desk staff was great, and the restaurant was also very good. One thing that I didn't like was that there was a conference room right across the hall from my room. There was some sort of event meeting there and they had the door open, occasionally cheering and clapping. It was right outside of my room and was quite loud. Usually hotels separate meeting centers from guest rooms, but this was not the case here.

“Nice Hotel with some bizarre attitudes”

The rooms are modern and clean, although the decoration feels a bit odd, contradictorily combining the antiseptic sterility of dentist office furniture with the helpless gigantism of contemporary art in form of a domineering photograph of a rock concert that covers the entire wall above the bed. The street facing rooms should be avoided by those who would like to sleep with open windows because the noise coming from the traffic will be too disruptive. The neighbourhood provides many bars, restaurants, and shops and is well connected to central areas of Amsterdam. Bikes can be rented at the hotel for a premium price and those who prefer more reasonably priced typical black Dutch bikes can find them in short walking distance at Black Bike Rental. There were only two points of contempt during my stay. First, I found the bed uncomfortable, it felt much too soft the cushions were too high for offering support during sleep. Second, the hotel presents itself with a petty attitude and it felt theat the management was very worried that the guests would try to cheat them out of money. For example, although my trip had been fully paid in advance by a large organisation, still I was asked for my credit card so they could block 50 Euros because some charges might arise during my stay -- apparently, they assume guests habitually will run away without paying their bills. Another example of this low attitude could be experienced during the morning breakfast buffet, where people were not greeting with "Good morning, how are you?" but "What's your room number?" and then, in the case the breakfast had not been already paid, with the statement "You will have to pay for this later." All this I found very primitive and rather disgraceful and therefore I recommended to my hosting company to not book this hotel again.

“Very helpful staff - good location”

Stayed here for 3 nights - good location only 10 minutes by tram from centre and 30 mins from airport by direct train (station 5 mins walk from hotel). All the staff were very helpful when booking attractions etc. Restaurant looked good though we didn't eat there. Room was good on rear of hotel, we were given an upgrade because of decoration work, would definitely use this hotel again.
 of 5 stars

This is a historic building; it was a hospital then city hall and then had a restoration to become the hotel of today. It is very new and well kept; rooms and furniture are basic but 1st class. It is a nice little hotel for a meeting but gets boring after the second morning. They don't know how to make fried eggs at breakfast and charge you EUR 5.5 for it; Dutch arrogance?... Downtown is like 40 min walking distance; take a taxi.
